hello unfortunately my chickens are in a fixed pen I try (weather permitting)  to rake the pen ones a week and clear as much as possible but is there any thing i can put down to rejuvenate the ground and kill any nasties  many thanks

some folks dig over the floor and this evidently works well, others use bark or hemcore and remove it weekly

Lime will help kill worms and bacteria but you need to remove the birds for a while.

Stalosan F is a disinfectant powder which may help keeping the ground sanitary. 

A woodchip litter which can be renewed periodically would be better than earth.
