I first noticed it yesterday one of my birds issued a loud high pitched screech, just the one, for no reason. Today I saw it was Hen.

Since Sandy's demise Beryl, who we believed to be at the bottom of the pecking order, has been strutting round with her tail held high , but apart from that no other noticeable changes.

Any ideas folks?

Was she in a nest box or hunkered down somewhere quiet? Broody hens will screech to high heaven when approached. However, some hens are vocal - "I'm about to lay an egg" or "I've laid an egg aren't I a smart hen" or "get out of my nest box., there's an egg on the way!" etc. 

If she is not distressed in any way and  it's not an alarm call then she is just being a hen!

One of my girls makes a screaming noise when she is laying.  Mind you, if I had something the relative size of an egg coming out of my bottom I.m sure I'd scream too!
