Ours is not that happy yet. It has been raining all night, but is finally letting up and I can even see little glimpses of blue sky :)

Dry! The sun has broken through the cloud, a bit of a breeze and I've put washing on the line.

Still very damp but it stopped raining late yesterday. The temperature has dropped to 4c probably due to the clears skies. We have a bit of winter sunshine which is nice change after all the dark grey gloom of late.

Here, at least it's not cold (19 C) but with gray skies, drizzling rain, and tonight and tomorrow a strong cold front that is forecast to bring the threat of tornadoes. Following the cold front it will be . . . well, COLD. Not as bad as before Christmas, but I'm not breaking out the sun screen and flip-flops any time soon. Hello January.

Yesterday wasn't too bad - grandson was trying out his binoculars and tripod to be an astronomer after dark - it's pitch black in our back fields - no streetlights :)

Looks to be blowing well, can’t be too cold as I’ve opened windows to air upstairs! Forecast says cloud & sun around 4pm, but there’s a bit of brightness coming from over the bottom fence. Will probably rain as soon as I set foot outside. :lol:

I distinctly remember complaining about the hot bits , but I don't recall much sunshine. Perhaps I was asleep that afternoon :D

I noticed a few branches down in the park this morning from yesterday, today isn't forecast to be as windy here though.

Heavy rain overnight - overflowing guttering and flooded street. Currently much the same as yesterday grey, dark and damp. It's a little cooler at +6c but more rain is forecast from lunchtime.

Wet and windy. There was a loud crash outside just now so Paul went out to investigate. A large branch has come down in next doors garden, serves them right, they don't look after their garden on check on the trees.

Pretty grim day it's been outside so I did the bare minimum, chickens and compost bin basically. Hardly had any sleep night before due to poorly moggy so dozed off a few times. Strange how couldn't get off when I went back to bed but out like a light for an hour in front of the telly.

We managed to get a little sun yesterday afternoon, even if it was that very yellow just before a storm sort of sunshine.
Heavy rain overnight again and one side of the main road was flood this morning. +5c , grey and cloudy but not as dark as it has been. I really need to start cleaning things up outside everything is sodden and covering in green slime.

Started the day with a heavy hailstorm, turned everything to winter wonderland. Thunder & lightning right on top of us so I pulled the duvet up higher! By 10am back to grey drizzle and quite calm.

Another really horrible night - heavy rain and high winds. It's settled down this morning and there's currently some very low sun shine and a mild +6c, if everything didn't feel so damp and soggy it would be a nice day. The forecast is for that to all change at lunchtime, there's already another food warning in place.

At some point I will have to check my allotment but wonder if I will need a boat.
Not sure I can do anything useful there at present I’m afraid.
Given the forecast for tomorrow I think I’m going to mount some photographs for a competition in the morning. At least I will be dry.

I have taken to staying bed as well. but I don't sleep at all until about 7am due to this neuropathic nerve pain. Tablets not helping at all.

Very windy night - several overturned wheelie bins strewn about, with never-to-be-recycled plastic bottles and paper littering my road. :(

Edit : Within 10mins it's started to absolutely pour down. So now it's cold, dark, windy ... and raining.

Just had a light snow shower which has sent the temperature down from 2.8C to 1.1C ('feels like' -3.4C in the northerly breeze according to the local weather station, and, trust me, I'll take their word for it! ;))

The snow at 8am settled on frozen ground, the sun thawed it a bit and a few people walked on it. Think skating ring under blue skies and now it's freezing again.

The wind and rain during the night was horrendous. Fortunately both had died down when Paul left for work but he says the state of the roads in places was very bad. Going down into the dip just before Godshill was 5" under water. Been quite bright this afternoon but it's that 'different' kind of brightness.

Light dusting of snow overnight but the cloud cover has increased the temperature and it's +1c. It's cloudy but they're white rather than grey. I noticed the daffs are starting to show up in the park :ohmy: feels a little early.

We had a sharp frost and everything was glittering with it this morning. It has been a lovely day once it warmed up though, with clear blue skies. Cold, but felt so much better than the wet, grey yuck we have been getting :)

Yesterday was so bleak I closed the curtains at lunchtime when thick fog descended .
-5c walking the dog this morning and it felt like it too. Visually its a really nice winter day - cold, crisp, a heavy frost, frozen cobwebs and low winter sunshine but it's best experienced from inside with a nice warm drink.

Been out of the house for the first time this year (apart from my trip to Hospital in the back of an ambulance!) Okay, only to the petrol station to fill up the van and then for a short drive round the neighbourhood and I can report that it is cold but dry. Several landslips that I've never seen before but we are prone to them. Back to looking out of the window and wondering n ow I suppose.

It's a cold house MoS not helped by the fact it's all still a work in progress ::) so all the heat I put in soon disappears. My new best friend in my hot water bottle.

Is it just me or does it feel colder this evening? Mind you I've felt colder all day. Otherwise it's been grey and dismal outside. Frost first thing. I thought it was supposed to warm up slightly as the week went on but yet again the weather forecast at the weekend was wrong.

Went to the allotments in sunshine at 1.30pm by 2.30pm the sky had darkened and a cold wind started up. So didn't really get much done, got home and got washing in before first shower - thank goodness for that, at least ::)

8c in the house and there's not a lot I can do about it at the moment as the boiler kept blowing the 3a plug fuse and I'm now out of replacements :( I'm reluctant to use a higher rated one. Sigh - I'd just like 1 month to make forward progress rather than spending all my time fixing things to stand still :mad:

Dull and grey. Was allowed to drive the work's van all by myself this afternoon to go 'shopping' for essentials. As they are strenghtening the railway bridge half way up Lake Hill there is a diversion so had to park in the nearest place I could find and walk to the corner shop. The wind is quite brisk and very chilly, had to come home and put on a second jumper to warm up.

Had a light frost overnight, a brief dip just below freezing. It is sunny with azure blue skies now, 7 C, a great day to be outside (so of course I'm stuck indoors, working). We are very fortunate. The line of storms bringing our rain produced multiple tornadoes in Mississippi and Alabama, at least 26 dead. The worst hit was the little community of Rolling Fork, Mississippi.

A line of severe storms that produced strong tornadoes from Arkansas to Chicago is moving into Georgia from the west. Hopefully it won't be too strong when it moves through our city in mid-day.

I just noted that it is now 23 C here in Georgia, 24 C in Indianapolis, and 25 C in Buffalo, New York, cities roughly trending south to north across the United States. That is completely mad! Buffalo should be far colder than Georgia, pretty much all year round.

Lovely round the back but we decided we really needed to tackle the alleyway down the side of the house which is in the shade and next doors ivy has come over and is covering the fence. The wind whistled up the alley and made it feel really chilly especially when I opened the gate to remove some ivy which was trying to take it over.

It is 20 C now, with a bit of a thunderstorm, forecast only reaching 27 C later today, so pleasantly cool. We have been having a bit of a dry spell so the rain is welcome.
The rain is also knocking down the air pollution coming from the forest fire in Chibougmou, Nord du Quebec. It is 1600 miles north of here, but the fires are degrading air quality along our east coast, all the way down to Georgia. I hope the Quebecois get some good strong rain too, maybe that will help control the fires.

This morning, 1:30am ish, thunder and lightening. Right over us, house shook, lights went out for a minute.
Then the power shower in the sky opened.
Bit damp on the ground but the patio had dried off by 5am when the cat demanded (with face licks and pats) breakfast. I can feed a cat in my sleep, near enough!

It just goes to show the areas of an Island. As we got nearer to west Wight this morning it got darker and we could see rain coming down from the clouds, lasted most of the morning. Came home here to east Wight and they've had no rain all day, but it has been very windy. All that tidying I did at the far end of the garden has been distributed over other parts. Not my doing, I've not been here!

Added later: my power back on after 2 hours. My electric membership cooperative is usually fast at locating trouble causing outages and fixing them. Good news: no need to throw out frozen or refrigerated food, we are inside the safety guidelines in terms of time without power.

Dull,dull,dull, as CRH would say, started to spit at about 5pm. Not looking forward to having to go over Tennyson Downs tomorrow morning if the forecast is right for high winds. Chale show is on this weekend and we have followed so many steam rollers, steam fuelled lorries, making their way to exhibit. They are all camping to protect their exhibits, I feel very sorry for them.

How many times have they told us we're going to have 'thundery showers'. I've yet to hear any thunder this year. I blame Michael Fish and his 'no hurricane' report back in 1987 that went wrong for their continual reporting of bad weather that never happens.

"Lightning" sums it up.
A bolt hit one of our large yellow poplar trees (Liriodendron tulipifera). The trunk exploded, throwing wood schrapnel up to 100 ft away, dropping a large number of limbs. One large heavy limb hung up in the power lines (photo), arcing and sparking until power finally faded.
Good news, no injuries, no house damage. Bad news, there is a huge lightning scar from the top of the tree to near the ground (photo), tree is almost certainly done for.

We are getting a substantial cool-down. For several days, highs in the 26 to 28 °C range, lows 16 °C or a bit warmer. Mostly dry, but Sunday could bring some rain, which would be very welcome.

I forgot to mention our dog's reaction to the cool down. When the weather is hot, we are careful to walk him only in the morning before roads heat up. He still wants to keep walks short (understandable), and mostly acts like an older dog (he will be nine years old on Christ__s Day). With our cool down, he is romping like a puppy!

What an odd day. Woke u p to bright sunshine, then about 11am it all went dark and we five 'flashes' of lightning and rumbles of thunder and torrential rain. After half an hour it started to brighten up, the puddles all disappeared and it's been a lovely afternoon. Can't go outside though as the decking is wet and slippery, need to cut the lawn but it's too wet.

We've got a warning for heavy rain this evening, can't be much heavier than what I listened to during the night. I don't know who to believe about the weather for the weekend, one hand says it's going to get better and the other says worse as we are getting the tail end of the recent hurricane. It is 18oC now, and we are finally getting a slow, gentle soaking rain after a month and a half of virtually no rain at all. :D We will gladly take all of it. Yesterday's forecast indicated we might get 0.02 inches tonight, we are getting a good bit more than that! Radar seems to show that this rain could last all night, at least, and possibly into tomorrow. All the result of an unnamed tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico.
I had tarped some tomatoes to keep some cold weather at bay over the weekend, I was in the process of removing the tarps when we started getting our first sprinkle. Good timing! :lol:

The Island apparently got three inches of rain last night and a lot is now flooded. Paul and his Dad took two hours to travel the 25 miles from one side of the Island to the other. A lot of it is under water and roads are closed off. The middle of the Island and North East bit (Seaview, Bembridge and Ryde, seem to have come off worst.) Apart from one heavy shower this morning it's been dry and bright, but we live on the eastern side, nearly the southern side.

leak sprung on Saturday in my kitchen it was fairly serious, especially as it was running into the lightswitch.
The roofer came yesterday in the pm and mended it. It was where lead flashing met the roof at a covered walkway where poly.....roofing met the tiled roof. He jumped up the ladder and mended it and said to ring if there are anymore problems. I set about a big clear up of soggy newspapers etc. Fingers crossed now.
Have been round the garden and secured what I can. But I have a hospital appointment tomorrow early pm

All my Grandsons have been through the 'bums, tits and willies' stage (with much giggling) as it was the naughtiest thing they could think of saying. :D I still say it myself, when I have to behave. I took my eldest daughter when she was about six to the Junior School Department of the Royal Ballet School at Camberley to see their production of Half a Sixpence. When we went back to my parents to collect her younger sister my Mum asked Laura if she had enjoyed it. She said yes, but it was rude. It took a while to work out why,' Stick it in your family Al-BUM' :D :D, turned out to be the answer! :D

Lots of heavy rain in the night, bit blustery & wet first thing, but got out safely to collect our grandson for our normal Thursday of going to the library & a coffee & play at local coffee shop, raining a little on the way back. But since then the wind has got up & big heavy downpours :wacko. DIL has just collected him & I’m now bracing myself to go & let daughters dogs out for a piddle & an early trip to the chickens on the way back. :ohmy:

Here on the south of the Island we got off very lightly, the forecast didn't come up to expectations ,yes we had some wind and rain but nothing like they predicted. Today has been showery but quite bright. They are predicting more rain for tomorrow, but I don't listen to them much as around the Island it varies so much.

We get very brief spells of lovely and then it's evil, really heavy showers where we could hardly see through the windscreen. Surface water is horrendous, bonus of having a diesel engine though in the van. We are rural so the run off from fields stains the flood water so you can't see what you're driving through. Saw a couple of abandoned cars on our way to work this morning, parked at funny angles or just where you never expect to see cars left. One customer all morning, £2.85 so really not worth the effort of going. The sea against the cliffs is lovely to see though (from a distance). At least the wind has dropped a bit.

We've had to go to the far side of the Island this afternoon and the standing water on the roads is awful, it's mainly run-off from the fields. The reflection from the low sun on this water made driving difficult.

Driving to work this morning was a nightmare. We did leave home 20 minutes before we normally do as it was hammering down. The place at Merstone that usually floods wasn't too bad, but the turning onto the Chale Road was about three inches deep. Thank goodness we have a diesel van. We 'found' pockets of water that we hadn't seen. Even parts of the Milly (Military Road) were under water from runoff. Brightened up about 11am and the journey home was a different story, I don't know where some of the water had gone as there are no drains along most of that road.

Drove 420 miles today and we're now in the Scottish West Highlands for Christmas and New Year.
Weather is a mix of thrashblast rain and knock you sideways wind interspersed with periods of relative quiet and even occasional clear skies. Glad to be inside though and cosseted by the comfort of double glazing.

It's been quite bright with sunny spells, so far, and it's feeling mild as well, but haven't been in the garden to check the actual temp.

Thursday 21st - the wind and rain caused cancellations for Mum's train oop north. Also, brother and family travelled on the overnight ferry but couldn't immediately dock owing to the wind and waves
Sunday 24th - brother's stepdaughter's flight back to Europe was cancelled (windy and delays)
Today - weather warning for wind, and it's been thoroughly unpleasant outdoors!
Saturday 30th - brother and family due to get a ferry back in what is likely to be another storm!
It's not been a great Christmas for easy travel :ohmy:

Although we are under a 'yellow' weather warning, it's been breezy and we've had two showers but not of any note. I've been told it's colder than it looks outside, I put my jim jams on Saturday night and have yet to take them off!

Well we didn't get it yesterday but we have the strong wind and heavy showers today. At least we don't have the snow and other problems some of you 'further up' the country have.

raining in Northamptonshire again but it wasn't raining in Northampton on Saturday when I went to watch the rugby it was a nice day when the saints won sale COME ON YOU SAINTS :D

Electricity switching on and off every couple of minutes.
Turned off my router and computer. Grandson with us today but I player programme kept cutting out. We played eye spy instead!
Daughter in the village reported a tile had dropped off her roof onto her conservatory
Lots of flooding on the roads today too.

An absolutely foul day here as well. Torrential rain until about 2pm but has started to drizzle again now. Very, very windy. We tied the olive tree to the fence a couple of weeks ago but Paul has been out today in the rain and cut the tie as we don't want to loose the fence panels, we'll let the tree face it's fate.

I've also now checked and I don't know what the weather was like on the 2nd January 2023, I was in a Hospital ward with severe Bronchritus, the ward didn't have a window.

rain today nearly all day, the allotments lower down are even more under water. It’s filled 3 large barrels attached to the shed overnight so I’ve opened the tap from the middle one to feed into the hosepipe into the poly tunnel as the other two feed into that one, hope I’ve done right and it’s not flooded in there tomorrow
