Thinking of buying a ride-on mower...
« on: May 02, 2011, 11:47 »
Has anyone got any thoughts on the Hayter M10 30? We're thinking of buying a ride-on mower for our lawn, which is about 1,200 sq metres (according to a recent lawn survey to address our weed and moss problem!). The lawn has seven fruit trees and is on a slight incline. We sort of inherited a bloke who used to come in to cut it on a ride-on for the previous people who lived in our  house, but he's moved so we are thinking of doing it ourselves. This model looks fairly straightforward for someone like me who hasn't had a ride-on before and seems to have all the features we need, but I'd appreciate any feedback/advice. Thanks

Hi garden elf, I don't have any experience of this mower but searching it, it looks a wee cracker! :D Having read your post earlier we worked out what 1200 sq m equated to looking out over our garden into the field beyond and we reckoned its about 7 times the size of our lawn, so that would take a great deal of time to mow with a walk-behind - even our brilliant Honda petrol model! :D

Yep, the lawn is larger than what we've had before and I've contemplated doing it with our 'normal' lawn mower, but I get exhausted at the thought of it! Our veggie patch takes up part of it, and we keep extending that but it's still a challenge keeping in it in shape.

I don't know that model but we've got a Rally 4 speed ride on mower and it's a godsend, very reliable.

We had a Hayter 10m 30 for about ten years - sold it when we moved house,
We couldn't fault it, Same area of lawn as yours. Would buy the same again.
Points to bear in mind:
It won't collect long wet grass nor will most other ride ons.
The bag emties onto the ground - you can't lift the cut grass out easily.
Buying season for motorised lawn machinery is nearly over and dealers don't want new ride ons hanging around until next spring. Be hardnosed and get more than one price, delivered with a guarantee. You should get close to £1000 new.
Be very careful buying second hand
GOOD LUCK!
