 a friend of ours asked me a question about his blackcurrant bush the other day and I held my hands up I don't know anything about fruit trees or bushes so its back to our site members to see if I can get any answers regarding the problem he has with his blackcurrant bush

Q. after winter and back into spring the blackcurrant bush starts to budding up then after they start to grow more buds or shoots there  gone never to produce anything can anyone advise me what may cause this to happen any info on this will be much appreciated RW

It might be big bud, a disease caused by tiny mites living in the bud. Infested buds are swollen, so they are larger and have a round shape to them. Healthy buds are much smaller and have a pointed shape. If you have a look as the leaves come off you'll be able to see if it's that.
