Title: How many Greenfly.
Post by: stompy on May 11, 2007, 17:35
I have just been to the plot to do my usual check and water, and found that the leaves on one of my black current bushes are curling up.

When looking under the leaves i found hundreds of greenflys on them.

How do i get them off without pesticides. :?:

Any sugestions appreciated......

well, I mate of mine uses soapy water and it does work, the only problem is that she sprays every morning and evening so is a little inconvenient.

greenfly hate corriander apparently, although I planted one next to my redcurrent and that hasn't stopped the greenfly. It is only a small corriander plant though.

I've taken to snipping the new shoots off that have greenfly on them and burning them. I inspect the plant quite regularly, couple of times a week and squash the aphids that I see. Its strange that I only have greenfly on 1 out of 5 plants! Anyway hope it stays that way.

I've heard that you can make an organic pesticide out of rhubarb leaves. I've never tried it but I bet it works.

Have you ever tried blending garlic into the water Jake?  Add the soap too.

No never tried that. I've heard strong tea can be good but not tried that either. Will give the garlic a go.

Seemed like it had an effect on someone's thrips just last week.  Took more than one application though.

You could whizz in some coriander too if you've heard they don't like that.

Keep us posted on the results please.  :)
