A photo will be coming later today. We have a lab īon trialī here, he is so timid, he is terrified of a collar and chain, I think he has been tethered all the time, and as for anything like a stick- well he hits the floor and lays as flat as he can! Jumbo is coming around, Lola snaps a bit, she will be ok though, Miki (cat) looks but ignores and Mili (cat) chases him!
Off to buy a collar to try to train him to wear it, will buy a soft one and a webbing type lead, nothing that looks like a chain!

Poor boy ...... it can take a long time to regain their confidence but will be so rewarding for you.
Labs are lovely. Bessie is now full of happiness and completely confident; so much so that she is self appointed guard dog and protector. :D

This is dog with no name at the refugio- we bought the new soft collar- it is too big, so will take it back tomorrow. Mili has called a truce, she went right up to him- to eat his food :lol:
Jim started to sweep the patio, dog with no name all but wet himself with fright.

he is gorgeous, we also had a dog that had been ill treated by a brush - it took him quite a long time to get over that.

My sister has dragged him into the house- it is far too hot outside for him, it was hard work, she was shoving his behind , his front feet were in the locked position :lol: The dogs water bowl is outside- we donīt want to move him to get outside so he has the washing up bowl instead. Mili is annoyed, Miki is laying right by him. Mili was bought up with our two from 3 days old, you would think she would be used to dogs! We are having to flick water on her!

Aw, what a sad looking fellow. He must have really been mistreated to sit in a corner like that. Labs are normally such friendly, slobbery creatures. Some patience and gentle words will definitely bring him around but it'll take time. I suspect that I would have brought him home as well.

Sounds like he wasn't allowed in the house before. He will think he is being naughty and will be punished. :(
I hope that he settles down with you and his new family. :D

Lots of Spanish dogs are only īoutsideī dogs, when I see the amount of fur we sweep up I can understand why!

Awww he's lovely Pamela. I'm sure he will soon get used to you. Penny was quite timid when we first got her, but nearly 10 years later, well, she is still a little timid if I tell her she's been a naughty girl!! lol, but she is the best dog ever!!!

Everyone looks very hot in the last photo, perhaps why there's so much fur on the floors.
We'll have to have a naming contest for your new friend.

The dog with no name is no longer the dog with no name, he is Charlie :D He is sitting behind me by the wall, his favourite place hugging the wall.
We had to bathe him, he was so smelly :ohmy: he is still smelly but not quite so smelly :lol: :lol:
He is beginning to get a bit less nervous, but as soon as any fast movement made it is back to the wall!
He will sleep outside on the patio- Jumbo and Lola have a big kennel- there will be no room for him in there, we will have to get a new one. He barked at the noise the neighbours peacock made- he has a deep bark.

Success! It was a hot night, so I slept outside on the patio too on a sunlounger :lol: Charlie was as quiet as a mouse all night, Jumbo woke me at 4.45am by licking me! But the good news is:

We managed to get him for a walk, using Jumboīs old harness, he followed the other dogs. After 10 min we were going to turn back, we didnīt want to stress him, but Charlie and Lola refused to go back, they both dug their heels in.
He was pleased to īsee usī first thing, he was all ver us, hard when there are 3 dogs and 1 pair of hands :D

He is lovely and with the loving home that you are giving him he will soon be a changed dog. :)
Oops Just seen your latest update as was about to press go - that is such good progress overnight. Well done both. :D
PS - cannot imagine it being warm enough to sleep outside here. :lol: :lol:

I only woke up hot twice, against all night back inside the house!! SO guess where I will sleep again tonight? Out side with the dogs :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

He was watching Mili the kitten cat (she is almost a year old now) he was worried she would chase him!
I am going to print off the photo and take it to the refugio tonight when I go there.

Charlie is wearing his new collar this afternoon, a webbed one, my sister put it onhim, she said he sulked for a couple of minuted and then forgot to sulk. All our animals are inside today, over 45 deg here this afternoon UGH

Charlie has certainly landed on his feet with you and I think he's beginning to realise it. :) So lovely to see the changes in him already.

If Mili cat would stop chasing Charlie he would be a happy dog! He weighs 27.8 kg, mili abou 3kg, guess who is the boss?

She is just making sure he knows who is boss around there. Charlie is getting all the fuss and jealous little lady cats Do Not Approve. It will soon sort itself out ....

We went for a walk again with Charlie, Jumbo and Lola first thing, canīt do it after 9.30am it is too hot!! All ok. Charlie will not walk in front though, he likes to follow!
Jumbo is getting more used to Charlie, Jumbo plays rough with Lola, but he is intimidated by Charlie, they have started to play though. I gave Charlie another short wash today, he still stinks of the refugio- hopefully he will smell better now!
He doesnīt eat much, the food is put down, he nibbles a bit and leaves the rest, then Mili goes in and finishes it off.
At the moment all the dogs are asleep in the living room and the cats are playing in the shower cubicle!

When it's hot out, my dog doesn't eat much either but we never get anywhere near 45C so not surprising Charlie might not feel like eating. Even humans don't eat much in that heat. Don't know how anyone can stand it.

He is keeping his place in the pack by walking at the back. Bit like pecking order of chickens.
You could try the cold tea recipe for the smell. Just make tea and let it cool enough to bathe Charlie in. It will take a few times but should clear the smell. I know it sounds crazy but it really does work. :wacko:

I canīt I stay indoors! When it is this hot it is too hot to go into the pool even, sounds daft, but it is far too hot!

Charlie is settled in nicely now- he has even had a go at chewing a newspaper, a scratching mat the cats use and a deck chair!! He has gone from being a quiet timid thing to a huge lumbering monster :lol: :lol: He is lovely though. He and Jumbo were chasing each other about tonight, it was fun to watch, then Lola joined in, but she got annoyed and chased Charlie, trying to bite him! She is such a placid dog normally!

That sounds very promising for Charlie. I think Lola has some jealousy issues that she'll eventually get over when she realizes Charlie is there to stay. Sounds like Charlie will make a nice hot bag of cement for your feet :D

Oh, he is beautiful & lovely to see him looking happier and more relaxed. I wondered if it might be worth using that harness rather than a collar when you take him into new situations as it won't have the negative associations of collars for him (and also less easy to escape from!) I used a harness for my girl whenever we went out for the first few months - we still use it now for anything potentially scary. (She was terrified of leads and sticks at first but is fine now)

awww looking at the picture of charlie hugging the wall and then the one with him going for a walk you can see a big difference. he looks like a right sweety. I know the feeling with the dog hair I thought my dalmatian was bad but then we got our husky and as soon as the sun comes out there is hair everywhere. I sometimes think hes hiding a whole sled team somewhere :lol: I wish we could say the weather in England was good enough to sleep outside its like a hurricane outside summer i think not. Look forward to seeing more of charlies progress :)

Mili has just walked in the living room, Charlie straight away lowered his head, Mili is the boss, all 3kg of her (if that)
I think he is more 18 months - 2 years he is a boisterous puppy :ohmy: and as for slobbery licks!

Just caught up with this. Poor Charlie, doesn't sound like he had much of a life before you rescued him Pamela. You can see by the photo's he's settling down already, he's a very lucky boy to become part of your family :D
We had a rescued border collie, she was about 6 months when she came to us. She was very nervous, had no manners, wasn't used to being inside, had separation issues, thought Ali needed rounding up all the time (which he probably did ::)), hardly ate any food, was terrified of collars, leads, brushes, the hoover and washing machine, the list goes on. It took a while but she came to realise we didn't want to harm her and eventually she grew into a very loving and faithful girl :)

My neighbour has just got one the same evie2. Wouldn't go over the doorstep, hates cars but loves the Council grass cutter which is more like a tractor. She was petrified of the tv but is slowly settling in.

It take time but it's always worth it in the end :)
