Title: Advice on sloe jam
Post by: gavinjconway on October 25, 2011, 17:37
Hi all you cooks out there... I have been offered some sloe berries that have been sieved from the sloe gin a friend has made. She has heard we can now make jam with the berries... anyone have any advice?  The jam might be a bit alcoholic.... hic.. hic...  :D

Far better to make chocolate truffles.

Wisk up full cream, melt dark chock' and fold together with the sloe berry flesh.  Roll into balls then roll in cocoa powder or chocolate hundreds and thousands.     Place in small cup cake cases and give as Christmas gifts.     Cheers,    Tony.

I'd use jam sugar (the one with pectin in) to help make sure it sets, and add a drop of lemon for extra flavour, cos a lot of it will have gone into the gin  ;)

I've never tried it before, but that's what I will do when my sloe vodka gets strained

The truffles sound great, shame I've got to wait a couple of months for the sloes to steep in the gin!
