Maybe something not made from Christmas leftovers!
-
Went to supermarket yesterday (to get slippers for OH, but that is another story!) and cleaned up on cold meats, so tonight will be cold ham, beetroot gratin and cabbage (he is going down the plot, last warmish day ..). I really am going to have to sort that fridge out today!
-
Salmon, when I go & get it out, with ??? Might be in orange & ginger sticky sauce or with parsley sauce
-
Happy New Year to all. Having got rid of the colds we both had (caught from one of the grandchildren) we are going to have roast lamb. The first dinner we have had since the middle of last week as we really did not feel like eating before.
-
Glad you are both better wighty :)
I had a stupidly long shift on New Years Eve - there was nothing left of it by the time I got home ::) A swift sandwich was all I could grab. Yesterday was going to be roast pork, but I woke up with that hot/cold/aching I'm getting a cold feeling. After a duvet day I managed pasta with homemade tomato sauce from the freezer. It must have been happy memories of summer days in the greenhouse surrounded by tomato vines, but I'm fine today, just a bit sniffly :)
Roast pork is on for later and maybe a pud. I've got a baked fruit sponge pudding recipe I want to try, plus preserved quince and frozen berries just asking to be used :D
-
We are back on the diet kick, so it is pasta at lunchtime to warm us up, and a light dinner of ham and salad (bargain lettuce and bits from the fridge), with wholemeal toast for OH.
Edit : he passed on the toast! Either he is really getting into this, or is sickening for something ...
-
After a plot visit this afternoon for me, we are having steak & kidney pie, mash, carrots & whatever veg from the fridge needs using up. Steak & kidney is from the freezer as is the cut ready puff pastry..
-
The plan was for pasta tonight with some some leftover chicken and pesto, but the weather strongly suggests something covered in spoon standing. Im trying to avoid doing my tax return so the pans are on for mash and mixed veg, I'll nuke the stuffing and cheat with bisto best for the gravy. ;)
-
We over did it last night and have suffered for it!(Not drink I would add). Should have built up to a big dinner. Tonight we stuck to burgers for Paul and fish fingers for me with chips and peas. Hopefully we won't have such an uncomfortable evening tonight.
-
Dry January and diet over already.
Huge rack of ribs smothered in chilli BBQ sauce served with chips, allotment corn on the cob and washed down by a bottle of red. Happy days :)
-
Tonight is cold beef and leeks in cheese sauce, steamed pots will be offered to OH (see if he accepts). Might do the odd leaf of cabbage too! Gotta eat your greens ... :)
-
After all the festive and traditional fare, over the last couple of weeks................ I really fancy a curry :D
I've got lots of veg in the fridge to use up, and some lamb offcuts in the freezer, they can all go into it :)
-
Was going to be sausages but hubby fancied pizza & as we were going shopping we could get mozzarella so guess what we’re having , with chips & salad.
-
Lasagne tonight, but much less homegrown ingredients available now.
-
I appear to have been struck down with man flu overnight  I'm feeling even more in need of real food than normal. Pans are on again for mash and mixed veggies and a a quick freezer raid has provided some slow cooked brisket in onion gravy. It's not exactly chicken soup but needs must ::)
-
You tell me please. This is what I have got:- A small bowl of leftover stirfry with noodles, half a bag of mixed Greenleaf sa lad, and a tablespoon of tinned Tuna. What can I conjure up with that lot ? :nowink:
No ideas, then it'll just all get chucked on a plate and eaten. - cold  Mrs Bouquet
-
I hope you enjoyed that then Mrs B
Today I've got my big stew pan on, filled with onions, celery, garlic and root veg, all looking a bit past it! Plus mixed dried pulses and offcuts of Christmas beef from the freezer.
Will make a hearty meal for this evening, and I'll be dipping into it over the next few cold days as the mood takes me ;)
I remember my Mum always having a pot of stew on the stove, whenever it was cold.
-
Chicken and cabbage in the slowcooker. OH is turning down carbs, but the weather is soooooo cold a glass or two of red is definitely required.
-
Gingered beef (from the freezer, can we abbreviate this to ftf?) pasta & veg for me & jckt potatoe & baked beans for him
-
Pork stir fry and rice. I'm still a bit sniffly, so it had lots of garlic, fresh ginger and chili as flavourings. That should give me a boost
-
Pork steaks, curly fries and allotment cabbage, served with an unholy homemade hot sauce.
-
Going to be stuffed marrow rings - and since the mince I got out last thing last night appears to be lamb not beef, it will have a midde eastern theme. Cumin, coriander, almonds and raisins etc in there. Might get a non authentic crunchy cheese topping. ::)
-
Sausagemeat hotpot.
-
Sausagemeat hotpot.
That sounds tasty, recipe please :D Mrs Bouquet
-
More of of last night's stew with homemade bread, comfort food for a cold day.
-
Sausagemeat hotpot.
That sounds tasty, recipe please :D Mrs Bouquet
Oh just brown the sausages, cut into chunks, add onions, garlic, carrots, swede, turnip, celery, peppers or whatever to hand, add stock or tomatoes, season add herbs if wanted, wine, slice potatoes & place on top. Cover & bake until all cooked. Can take lid off to reduce & brown or add dumplings. Substitute cooked meat or any raw. We do ours in a shallow le creuset type casserole pan.
-
Cottage pie, mixed veg and spoonstanding. Why have snasbods stopped doing frozen chunky mixed veg?
-
Why have snasbods stopped doing frozen chunky mixed veg?
Who knows why supermarkets do these things? >:( Aldi has stopped doing english breakfast tea... :(
Marrow korma tonight with the rest of the marrow .... with chick peas, lentils, onion etc etc.
-
Roast turkey & all the trimmings possibly tonight. Was going to buy a chicken then remembered the 2 turkey rolled joints I bought from Wyevales farm shop early December,so saved my money
-
Sausagemeat hotpot.
That sounds tasty, recipe please :D Mrs Bouquet

-
Potato fritters, bacon and tomatoes for me :)
-
Nuked a spud - it was about as exciting as it sounds. :(
-
More of the roast turkey, very good it was too.
-
Cheesy scrambled eggs with cabbage, mushrooms and toms in plus some curly fries.
-
Cold ham with beetroot gratin and cabbage. Beetroot was from the clamp and cooked in the pressure cooker first - enough for 3 gratins - first time I have done that and it worked well. Learning about pressure cooking is my new thing!
Tonight will be more boring - quiche lorraine (last of the Christmas bacon) and coleslaw and the final batch of mince pies to use the rest of the jar in the fridge. Then that really is Christmas over! :( Roll on the spring! :D
-
Quiche for me as well, with pearl barley and root veg risotto. Mrs Bouquet
-
Reduced in the Co op today - packs of 4 chunky pork chops for £2 each, I thought it would be rude not to buy a pack or 2 :)
So for tea I'll have a chop tray-baked with butternut squash, onion, pepper and tomatoes, the others went in the freezer ;)
-
Gammon joint braised in apple juice with onion, carrot, celery and herbs.
I served thick slices with potatoes, the veg it was braised with, some extra greens and a sauce of some of the braising liquid thickened with cornflour. We had both been outside working - OH earning a crust and me in the garden at home, so it went down a treat :D
Loads left for another meal or two and stock for a soup as a bonus :)

How do you find the apple juice stock in a soup? I never feel it will ‘go’ so bin it which I always feel such a waste, I stock everything else

I've never tried it before, so I'll let you know. It doesn't taste like apple particularly - sweetish, but savoury with gammon and herb flavours. I was thinking of cooking split peas and veg, putting in the stock and blending the soup, then adding in bits of cooked gammon.
-
Another pork chop, this time with a pile of Chinese stir-fry veg :)
-
Chicken stew that's been cooking away for the last few hours while I changed the oil in the car.
-
Turkey & ham pie to use up the 1/2 tub of cream cheese from a cheesecake I made at Christmas. Mash, peas, carrots & broccoli & ratatouille (ftf)
-
Sawhedge and chips :tongue2: I also intend to make a half-hearted attempt at looking for mushy pea and beans.
-
Ham (leftover gammon), egg, chunky chips and broccoli.
Soup is made ready for tomorrow, as I am working late. I added some frozen casserole veg as well as the shredded gammon after the base was blended and its turned out well - homemade Big Soup, but nicer :)
-
There's a lump of gammon in the slowcooker. I'd love to put it with mash and eggs but with only one ageing chicken left I've not had an egg for months :( ( I refuse to keep chickens and buy eggs). I'm torn between sliced ham and veggie rice or Mac'n'Cheese with shredded ham in.
I will try not still sit here until 10pm thinking about it and end up with a ham sandwich :nowink:
-
Cold (bargain) flame grilled sliced turkey with coleslaw, and toast for OH.
All the talk of gammon on this board has sent me to the freezer to find the hock I knew was in there. ::) Now defrosting ready for tomorrow in the slow cooker. :)
-
Curry fest :D
I've been outside all day tidying up and pruning in the garden, so some serious tea was needed. Dhal from the freezer, sweet potato and cauliflower curry, rice, yogurt and mint, plus some poppadoms. That's better :D
-
Massive meaty pizza topped with some jalepeno slices from the freezer.
-
I was at a friend's and I had Chicken burger in a bun, with wedges, salad and mayo. Lush!
-

Thanks, I'm hungry again now

Gammon isn't something I buy usually. I only bought the joint we had on a whim, but it is amazingly frugal and a little goes a long way. The joint was 1.6kg, it has done 2 meals for us both, made 4 big servings of main meal type soup and the last chunk was in the freezer for another day.
I've just pulled it out to defrost as we have wizard beans in the freezer to use up and I've found a nice broad bean casserole recipe on the main site. The plan is to use shredded up gammon instead of the bacon.
Broad Bean and Bacon Casserole Recipe - Allotment Recipe (http://www.allotment-garden.org/recipe/119/broad-bean-and-bacon-casserole-recipe/)
I'm planning fruit pruning and mulching on the plot, so a quick but filling meal will be great later today :D

If you grab a bag of something like this Waitose Soup Mix (https://www.waitrose.com/ecom/products/waitrose-love-life-soup-mix/071824-36466-36467) you can stretch it even further.
-
Yes, but I keep forgetting to soak it overnight!
Even cooked all day in the slow-cooker some of the peas & beans stay hard. So those only work if you are organised and that's not me, nowadays ::)
-
Last night was bought steak pie with plot spuds, roasted beetroot (plot grown by a plot neighbour and given to me), plot greens and spoon standing.
Tonight is pork stir-fry, but the only home grown ingredients I can claim are the garlic and chilli pepper.
-

Cook some in advance & then freeze them😊 easy peasy
-
Put a chicken in the slowcooker this morning, smells lovely but I'm unsure of what to do with it
Roast chicken dinner, chicken and chips or chicken and pasta .... I'm leaning towards a full chicken dinner but the cba fairy is pushing hard for chicken and pasta.
-
Have mash and peas/green beans with it, a little less work than the roast, but better for you than the pasta?
I've had sausages, steam-bag mixed veg with wedges :)
-
‘Twas hm pizza here with oven chips, salad & hm coleslaw.
-
Pork chops with hm fruity chilli sauce and cajun fries.
-
Roast sausages and veg last night with instant onion gravy. Best I could do with the sniffles - and at that OH had to prep the pots and parsnip. Too wobbly. Since I didnt eat much there are a lot of leftovers - need a plan! ::)
Bit better today so cold ham, beetroot (out the freezer) gratin and a jacket spud for OH planned for tonight.
-
Yesterday I cobbled up a meal, Small potatoes cut in half, along with carrot slices and celery, these had been in the 'fridge for a few days, as had the eight or nine pieces of Penne, which had gone hard. I prepared a portion of Pearl Barley, and put that in a pan to cook, then added all the above, plus a bit or red and yellow pepper that I found lurking. Mixed a red oxo, and some Bisto gravy that was hanging around, a spoonful of tomato puree a few crushed dried chillies and left over sauce from the curry. To that I added a bag of stir fry veg for 2 mins. It was scrummy and there is enough for tonight, and all the veggies have been used up.
Ready now to start again tomorrow. :D . Mrs Bouquet
-
I've got a spicy veg casserole in the slow-cooker, and to go with it, there will be honey/sunflower seed bread. It was rising very slowly - so I've moved it nearer to the radiator :D
-
It was supposed to be Spanish Chicken & chorizo bake ala Hairy Bikers, but hubby has decided to cook it somewhat differently so I think it’s probably more like hot pot.😱
-
The plan was for sawhedge, mash , mixed veg and spoonstanding onion gravy, but as the oven was already on for the sawhedges I couldn't help but put some chips in instead.
It's become sawhedge , chips and beans. I'll have adult food tomorrow. ;)
-
Jacket potatoes, cheese, salad for me, beans for him, & a roasted chicken thigh each .
Bit of an odd combo but after a mammoth marmalade making session, needs must.
-
Crawled out from coughing and sneezing yuck and on the mend. So a good veggie korma should put me right! :D At least it is something I can taste ... no point in going for anything delicate and refined.
-
General laziness resulted in Chinese takeaway tonight. Mmmmmmm laziness.
-
Yesterday was a bit of a wash out as I was supposed to get out of work at 7pm - ended up being 10pm ::)
Working late tonight, so OH has messed around mac & cheese. It includes roasted squash so he get some veg whether he likes it or not
I'm going to see how I feel later :)
-
Utterly shattered today and I don't even have the excuse of working hard. There's a large spud begging to be nuked and filled with the rest of last night's beans and of course cheese.
-
Christmas ham in a mustard sauce with sauté pink fir apple potatoes on top, carrots, peas & broad beans (just found them in the freezer😊)
-
(Also found in the freezer) chicken drumsticks are in the slow cooker with lots of veg. OH can have a couple of pitta bread from the freezer with it.
Lardman, I'm shattered too. It's not as if I was up all night moon watching - it was far too cloudy to see anything. I'm blaming the virus. Here's hoping you aren't going down with the lurgy - it seems to be getting everyone at the moment.
-
Roast chicken and tray bake veg - spuds and squash from the shed, peppers and green beans from the salad drawer in the fridge, as they needed using up.
-
Fried some bacon bits with the last part of a red pepper, cooked some Penne and stirred the bacon mix in plus half a tub of garlic & herb Philly cheese, which needed using up. Will do that again it was yum!
The healthy bit? I also had grated carrot and shredded cabbage in an oil/vinegar dressing.
-
Cold beef out the freezer, with leeks in cheese sauce and some little jackets for OH. Easy.
-
Squash & pearl barley risotto with goats cheese, plus I stirred in the last bit of a pot of cream cheese with garli & herbs
-
Tonight it will be Alien Brain in cheese sauce, chips and bacon
Grandson sure it's not a cauliflower, it's definitely an alien brain!
-
Christmas beef (FTf) roast potatoes & whatever veg hubby can be bothered to cook ( I know there’s carrots, celery, broccoli, sprouts & cauliflower in the fridge! Let’s see what I get)
-
Massive homemade lasagne, plenty of leftovers for tomorrow too.
-
Chickenless stew.
It was going to be chicken with the leftover roast. By the time chicken stock, loads of veg, plot borlotti beans and dumplings had gone in, it was so nice already, I kept the meat back for another meal :)
-
Last night was a meat (box of beef bourguignon FTF) pie, with the last cabbage on the side, steamed little potatoes for OH. Was good - but I really shouldn't ... pastry is carbs and I am supposed to be avoiding them at night. :(
-
After much deliberation & a shopping trip, firstly to the Fishman & then 2 supermarkets we’ve decided on fried cod loin with mash & parsley sauce (parsley freshly harvested from the plot) in the meantime I will make at least 4 fish pies for the freezer, will save on some work later on & 4 more dishes to be pulled out over the next month 😊
-
Chicken in lemon/pepper crumbs with peas, tomatoes and a few wedges.
-
Egg and chard (survived the snow!) curry to warm the cockles, rice for OH.
-
After much negotiation; sausages, egg, chips & beans :D :D
-
I've got hm tomato sauce defrosting for pizza. I'm make the dough later and there is mozzarella in the fridge.
Other toppings to be decided. I know I have a jar of roasted peppers, but there is also a jar of mixed mushrooms lurking in the cupboard. Decisions, decisions... ::)
-
Chicken curry night, tonight! Have discovered that adding a teaspoon of super hot chilli pickle from the asian store makes a mild enough for Val, hot enough for me. 2 teaspoons is beyond my ability to manage. :D
Pilau rice and naan bread.
-
Wife has leftover takeaway, sprog wants pasta, so I'm having mega hot homemade burritos and an agreeable bottle of red.
-

Great minds think alike!! Last night I took a pack of homemade pizza dough out of the freezer and had this for lunch with homemade tomato and garlic sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese, finely sliced onion, pepper and mushrooms.
-
Sweet & sour chicken with rice & prawn crackers, sauce is uncle Bens as hubby doesn’t like my hm 1 🙄
-
Ditto re the pizza planned for lunch today - only I got the mozzarella out the freezer and forgot the tom sauce. Sigh. That will be tomorrow then ...
So last night was a beef stew cooked in the pressure cooker (learning to use it again for in our little camper van) with bread for OH. Worked well ... so tonight's challenge is chicken and leek stew, with borlotti beans in it. Couscous for OH.
-
Chilli (cooked again in the pressure cooker) with rice for OH and a little yogurt for me.
(And we did get the pizza for lunch ... my brain is finally coming back into gear after the horrible cold)
-
Chilli wraps with plenty of allotment beans from the freezer, homegrown chilli powder and for me only, Nuclear Chill Sauce made from my Razzamatazz, Prarie Fire and Piri Piri chillies. Did I mention the word Chilli there?
-
We had potatoes boulangere (using Blue Danube), calabrese (Marathon), cauliflower (di sicilia vialetto) and incinerated lamb bits (Texel) from the freezer. Excellent.
-
Going to be a big dish of leeks in cheese sauce, with a crunchy topping, some cold ham (FTF - mystery package) and some oven wedges for OH. In front of the fire!
-
Cold martini chicken with hot gravy😂, roast potatoes, peas & sprouts & cauliflower & broccoli cheese, Yorkshire pud, all shared with our little granddaughter ( so full of fun & laughter, particularly when she told us she has wine somedays(she’s not quite 3lol), usually Wednesday’s & Thursday’s 😂😂) her parents don’t drink wine! So she had some raspberry cordial with water as her wine 😊
-
Sausage, egg, chips, mushrooms and beans :D
-
...all shared with our little granddaughter ( so full of fun & laughter, particularly when she told us she has wine somedays(she’s not quite 3lol), usually Wednesday’s & Thursday’s 😂😂) ...
Gabriel asked for a 'healthy snack' which turned out to mean chocolate! He asked his mum for a healthy meal for tea of Yorkshire pud with ice cream.
Anyway, we're having the other half of the potatoes boulangere , broad beans and pork chop.
-
A gammon steak with swede & carrot mash and peas.
-
Last night was lentil cottage pie and the mash was topped with chopped leeks & cheese. Cheap as chips and very comforting. Now stood thinking for tonights
Missey
-
Using up the last of the Turkey (don't panic it's been in the freezer) . Im aiming for a full roast, but chances are it'll end up on sandwiches. ::)
-
I got a lump of topside out the freezer last night. I think I am going to put it in the slow cooker with a bourguignon style sauce to simmer most of the day. Serve (some of) it tonight sliced with a tray of roast veggies (sort of your roast dinner, Lardie!) .... There should be plenty to have cold later in the week and the last of it will go back in the sauce .... Yup, that's a plan! ::) :)
-
I seem to have a lot of veg in the fridge now, plus 2 blocks of cheese (they were on BOGOF when I did my Christmas shopping so got 2 lots!) so I'll cook some veg and some spaghetti and grate lots of cheese over it.
Easy peasy and annoys the CBA fairy ;)
-
1st of the fish pies ftf, I microwaved a leek then put it as a base for the leftover cauliflower &broccoli cheese from last nights with leftover sprouts chucked in to !lol then last nights leftover roast potatoes sliced & chopped & reroasted in the oven. Can you see a theme to this dinner 😂😂😂. Now there’s no leftovers in the fridge apart from some roast chicken which is ear marked for a chicken & ham pie on Thursday.
-
It had to be wok themed as I've been chatting about oriental veg on another thread  So Komatsuna and Hohei from the greenhouse, stir fried with pork, plus some rice.
-
Cold chicken, salad, and boiled new pots. Then maybe a slice of Malt Loaf. Mrs Bouquet
-
Oh I can never stop at 'A' slice of malt loaf :D
-
Steak and salad with crusty bread.
-
Oh I can never stop at 'A' slice of malt loaf :D
Hmm I’ve just made a bran loaf, not made 1 for years, I th8nk I’ll be having trouble stopping at 1 slice.
-
I've just got back from the allotment AGM and my braised beef, in red-currant gravy, carrots and mini spuds were done to perfection in the slow cooker :)
-
The plan was Parsnip and cheddar soup with crusty bread but by some miracle it turned into a meat feast pizza.
-
What was going to be Christmas beef hotpot turned into beef casserole with braised potatoes as a side when we ended up with 2 extras booked 8n for dinner.
-
We had a veggie curry, actually I think a vegan curry. Despite being vegan, it was lovely :)
-
I love veggie curries and thinking about it, mine are usually vegan too, as I use oil rather than ghee. Now I am thinking about curry for tea - Pavlovian dog response to the mention of the word ::)
-
Funny you should say that NS I put everything on the shopping order for some base sauce yesterday :tongue2: I blame the weather. I couldn't decide what meat to buy so I added a bag of frozen Nutter Butt squash and a bag of frozen spinach instead. Good curry is good curry whatever the lumpy bits in it are :D
That lot isn't being delivered until tomorrow so tonight is going to have to be a nuked spud and a slice of gammon (it's so thin it's a stretch to call it anything other than bacon  ) , might pick out the cauli & broccoli from the mixed bag and make cauli cheese to go with it.
-
My curries are usually veggie, and often vegan (eggs are likely to be the non vegan element if any). The veggies just take up the spices so well.
Last night was chilli and marrow soup (a couple were found to be going off), with pittas for OH. We had had thai style stuffed marrow rings on buttered pots for lunch, so a lighter supper was called for. Helps with the waistline reduction campaign too.
-
Now look what you've done - I'm going to have to tweak the remains of yesterday's braised steak to make a curry for today! What are you lot like?
No rice in the cupboard so I'll make some quick flatbreads to go with it and some salad pickles
-
Chicken & ham pie with last nights leftover potatoes, broccoli, last of the hg carrots that I pulled yesterday.
-
Leek and cheese pie with baked beans for lunch, and a beef, mushroom and onion soup planned for tea. Warming for cold people! I've also cooked 4 beetroot from the clamp, ready for a gratin (and a couple of boxes of prepp'ed beetroot for the freezer) tomorrow. Feeling vaguely virtuous, although there really isnt good reason! :D
-
Cheesy chips, fried eggs and lashings of hm chilli sauce. Wine gums for pudding. This dieting malarky is just brilliant.
-

You stick with it or you'll never get in the UK Sumo team :)

Annoyingly for other people (the good lady Head of Department her indoors particularly) that despite my extravagant calorific intake, I'm still in pretty decent shape for my age. I'm sure it'll catch up with me one day, but I'll worry about that then :)
-
OH was like that - until his mid 50's when we had to 'have a chat' about him not being 17 and 10 stone wet through ..... ::)
Cold beef, beetroot gratin for lunch, and hot and sour soup with fresh rolls for OH planned for tonight. Hot food for cold people again. (I'm retreating to my sewing machine this afternoon ...)
-
Mushroom omelette for me (eggs n 'shrooms to use up) somehow I don't think I'll be having a salad with it, though
-
OH was like that - until his mid 50's when we had to 'have a chat' about him not being 17 and 10 stone wet through ..... ::)
At 17 I weighed 8.5 stone and had a 28" waist. I blame Val - she's too good in the kitchen. She has offered to put us onto a brown rice with a few veggies diet but after some crying and tantrums...
Fish'n'chips wit mushy peas tonight.
-
Going out for dinner tonight, nipper's choice of establishment. Which means we'll be eating at a fastfood emporium that starts with an 'M'
-
Going for it tonight - full on comfort food :D
Mince and tatties (childhood favourite of OH), followed by baked fruit sponge pudding. I was planning the pud a few weeks ago, but OH claimed he was on a new year diet. It's turned out to be the UK Sumo Team one, so I'm ignoring him and making it :tongue2:
-
Burgers I found lurking in the freezer, with oven chips & buns made by OH, they’ll be tomato & cucumber & red onion to go with it but no salad leaves as I’ve not got any 🙄
-
Halloumi with roasted veg, pitta bread & hummous.
(Eaten whilst dreaming I owned a greenhouse so I could actually attempt to grow peppers)
And far too many squares of chocolate with coffee after
Missey
-
(Eaten whilst dreaming I owned a greenhouse so I could actually attempt to grow peppers)
If you start them indoors you may well get away with growing them in pots in a sunny sheltered spot on a patio in your neck of the woods. Worth a try?
-
I’m out tonight at a pamper party so I think I ordered chicken & leek in a pastry basket with roasties & veg, fruit & cream meringue.😊. Him indoors is making himself a beef stew/hotpot.
-
Good lunch so tea will be apple and stilton soup, with a bread roll or two for OH. And a large log fire ....
-
invited to daughter for a casserole. Mrs Bouquet
-
Another vegan curry - I'll be growing pointy ears and being logical at this rate! Poppadums and pickles to start but I'll avoid the super hot chilli pickle tonight (sheer cowardice)
-
Home-made Cornish style pasty with peas :)
-
Wife is exhausted from extra work commitments this week so I cooked up a nice steak with baked mushrooms topped with cheese, chips and roasted mini plum tomatoes.
-
That was nice of you. It sounds good as well :)
We had toad in the hole last night with swede, broccoli and spoon standing. Off out tonight with friends to the local curry house for their Sunday buffet. We've been before and its very good. Its the standard fare, but they do it well, with spices and herbs you can see and taste, not just anonymous brown gravies on everything. It goes out a bit at a time and they keep topping it up, so its freshly cooked whenever you pitch up ;)
-
There is definitely a curry theme at the moment! Another vegan curry here - veg korma (marrow, chickpeas, a few red kidney beans that are lurking, lots of onion, cashews, coconut milk .... that sort of thing!).
-
Spicy chicken drumsticks traybaked with peppers, onions, squash, garlic and few tired tomatoes, also some spinach on the plate :)
-
Homemade seafood pie. No chips on the orders of She Who Must Be Obeyed.
-
Roast Beef and trimmings
-
Hm pasta with bolognaise ftf then Nutella brioche oh my, oh my. Never had Nutella for a very good reason but hubby made this, picture on show us your bakes

You have to watch that Nutella stuff :tongue2: :D It's not as good as it used to be before they messed with the recipe though :(
Dinner tonight was cabbage, I put some mash and onion gravy on it but mainly it was cabbage. It's been a while since I've seen a decent savoy so it was a special treat (at a whopping 69 pence).
-

Haha, that’s why I’ve never tried it, I thought it was my safer option lol
-
Fish pie with mashed potato top, together with cauliflower and broccoli.
-
Chicken, cabbage, onion, pepper, swede and mushroom stir-fry with noodles and sweet chilli sauce. YUM!
-
Beef hotpot
-
Last night we celebrated the Lunar New Year of the Pig ... so we abandoned the diet for a night and had prawn crackers, then slow cooked belly pork in oyster and soy sauce, with mushrooms and leeks, stir fried veggies (carrots, peppers, cashews, spring onions etc) with chilli and dressed with seseme seed oil, egg fried rice. It was magnificent and we demolished the lot!!
Today I am going to put a bargain piece of brisket in the slow cooker - the coffee recipe I think. With misc roast veg.
-
I'm doing the Chinese New Year a day late
Hm tofu to cook and some seafood - got chinese leaves, mushrooms and the usual suspects (chilli, garlic, ginger & spring onions) to hand. Exact menu tbc :)
-
Shop bought quiche Lorraine, with homemade Waldorf Salad, at least that was the plan, but the salad, is now Mrs Bouquets Special, and very tasty.
-
I pulled the last of the Christmas beef out of the freezer and it's now in the slow-cooker with assorted veg, herbs and stock. It smells lovely.
I'm still debating whether to make some dumplings to go in it
-
Chicken & chorizo Spanish bake ala Hairy Bikers & a bit of warmed up focaccia I found lurking in the freezer.
I’m also cooking up last years forced champagne rhubarb with dates, grated fresh ginger, orange zest & juice(in the hopes it doesn’t need any sugar. Still trying to use up the fruit in readiness for this years bounty. Really need to tackle the soup mountain lol. At least I got the half lamb from the freezer in there today.
-
Homemade beef chilli wraps. Getting perilously low on plot beans in the freezer now.
-
I've been late in the last couple of nights, so Thursday was kimchi fried fried with a fried egg on top and yesterday was cheese on toast and tomato soup.
Working today, but finishing fairy early, so I'll grab something from work to bring home with me :)
-
Thai red curry with sticky rice, and extra veg. Mrs Bouquet
-
Nipper is under the weather and wife is away. Fridge is empty. I sense that takeaway is a probability tonight.
-
Last night we ate out ,mine was prawn cocktail followed by mushroom stroganoff with rice & salad which was not very inspiring, hubby had liver onions & mash followed by jam sponge. BIL had fish & chips & that looked lovely & hubby enjoyed his so i think I just chose poorly.
Tonight it’s sirloin steak & chips with salad & lemon drizzle cake for pud.
-
Tonight was bacon, eggs, chips and tomatoes - jubbly :D
-
Apple and stilton soup, with bargain crusty cob from Morrissons (collected on my way home). I ate too much of it, but it was nice for a change.
-
Will be roast pork & all the trimmings but the pork is 2 slices of belly pork, I poach it in hot water & onions to tenderise it then crozzle it up. We only have it once in a blue moon as hubby isn’t keen on pork, but it’s my favourite
-
I made a huge Lasagne :)
-
Cheese & crusty bread for lunch. Then venison sausages, red cabbage & mash later
-
I bought some very nice undyed oak smoked haddock over the weekend - shared the fillet with my mother. I'm going to put ours into a nice cullen skink to warm us through, and serve with some more of the crusty bread. I think Ma will eat hers poached with a poached egg on top .....
-
I made a huge Lasagne :)
Hmm now there’s an idea, I bought a kilo of mince at the farm & hubby doesn’t ‘do’ lasagne so I never get it, but I don’t mind making a big one & freezing in portions 😏
-
Yesterday ended up as American style breaded chicken portions, spicy wedges, coleslaw and salad following pleading text received from OH when I told him I was on my way home from work and what did he want me to buy for tea. I think his new year diet which excludes KFC is getting to him
Salt and pepper squid, stir-fried veg and rice tonight, plus an extra of some spring rolls. They fell in my basket yesterday when I was buying the stir fry veg ;)
-
Poorly nipper, tired wife and I, so it was Southern Fried chicken, curly fries, cajun beans and allotment corn on the cob.
-
veggie tacos followed by some baklava naughty but very nice
-
Last night was beef stew (FTF!) and sprouts, last of the crusty bread for OH.
For tonight, I have a ham hock to put in the slow cooker. I'll take the meat off the bone later and serve with roast veggies (pots for OH, squash (got one that needs using), parsnip (FTF - used the last of the fresh ones), onions, carrots I think!) and some redcurrant sauce.
I've got to have a bit of a freezer sort out today ...  :(
-
I've taken a chicken breast out to defrost, will coat with spicy breadcrumbs, serve with peas and coleslaw :)
-
Put a whole chicken in the slow cooker this morning. Probably a 'roast' chicken dinner tonight unless I can think of something more exciting in the next 7 hours.
-
Homemade spicy meatballs with spaghetti.
-
Italian theme here as well. Hm sourdough pizza bases sat on trays rising for later on. I've got mozzarella and mushrooms for the top. Fresh chestnut mushrooms and some wild mushroom mix in oil from a jar.
Salad leaves from the greenhouse to collect and we are set :)
-
Yesterday was an eating disaster. Had to rush back to Eye Hospital, so bought and ate a Hot Cross Bun.
When I got home a friend had left me two slices of Banana Loaf. Feeling sorry for myself ate both bits (4.14pm). To full up then for dinner. So later 2 bits of toast with grilled cheese. 1 toast with jam. 3 Custard Creams :nowink: :nowink:
Must be good today. So it is yesterdays meal which is braised steak with mash, fresh carrots, celery and parsnip. Biscuits and cake all gone :) Mrs Bouquet
-
Monday was steak & kidney pie from the farm bought meat that got slow cooked & frozen in portions with a puff pastry top that gets divided up into the right size to fit the dish & frozen separately, with mash, swede & carrot mash, peas & broad beans.
-
I think I'll use some of the stock from yesterday's ham hock to make a big veg soup for tonight - and do a bit of a fridge clear at the same time ::).
-
I think I'll use some of the stock from yesterday's ham hock to make a big veg soup for tonight - and do a bit of a fridge clear at the same time ::).
Haha I did a fridge clear out soup yesterday for lunch & very tasty it was too, I left it chunky for a chance instead of blitzing it.
-
My old slow-cooker died at the weekend, and the bright shiny new one is waiting to be used :D I've gone for the Russell Hobbs chalk board model, which is more like a saucepan in shape, than my old one, so takes up a bit less space on my small worktop.
So a thick lentil/veg mix is gently bubbling away - I'll probably add spice and serve over rice for tea :)
-
Fridge clearing pasta bake, with hm tomato sauce from the freezer and leftover grated mozzarella from the pizza yesterday.
-
Although we don't do Valentine cards anymore, my cheffie OH bought me a lovely bunch of flowers this morning and is going to do halibut (a first for me) with veg and fried bananas (as in au Caprice) and I can't wait!
-
My wife's punishing end of term work schedule means that Valentines is postponed until Saturday night, so it's a hearty Chinese takeaway tonight :)
-
I'm cooking a chilli con carne to go over a jkt spud, cheese on top of course :)
Leftovers with more veg added will make a hearty Minestrone for tomorrow's tea, with HM bread.
-
I found a bargain chicken in the co-op this morning (£1.25!!) so it has been roasted with roast veg and stuffing. OH is amazed - a roast dinner and midweek at that! ::) :D
-
Spag Bol - should have had it last night but was too tired to cook so ended up with a shish kebab :nowink:
-
More Christmas beef in a hot pot, just a shame we didn’t put it in before we went to the plot as now we’ve got to wait. The g & t is going down a treat though 😊
-
Mushroom ravioli with a yummy pesto ;) :nowink:
Hi all!!
-
Mushroom ravioli with a yummy pesto ;) :nowink:
Hi all!!
Hi you’re back 👋😊
-
Welcome back DBG :D
Roughing it tonight with toast as I'm late in and the CBA fairy is here. OH is out and had a pasta bake left for him to heat up earlier.
-
Welcome back DBG :D
Roughing it tonight with toast as I'm late in and the CBA fairy is here. OH is out and had a pasta bake left for him to heat up earlier.
Hi New Shoot and Snowy :) :)
Thought I'd swing by and see who's about ;) :D
-
Hi from me too!
Last night was more of the chicken, cold, with leeks in cheese sauce, a few steamed pots for OH and the leftover roast veg and stuffing from the previous night. The carcass of the chicken has made a lovely vat of stock and there are still some bits for a chicken and leek pie. Can't complain at that! :) Frugal? Moi?
Tonight will be a bit different. Venison sausages (from the local butcher and a real favourite) in a bourguignon style sauce (some red wine to use up ) with shallots and mushrooms, sprouts on the side.
-
Fish pie ftf for me with bread & butter & some peas & carrots for him, I’m on a restricted diet for 3 days, going without fruit & veg is going to be very difficult for me.
-
Postponed Valentines night tonight so steak, baked giant mushrooms topped with cheese, fries and any other suprises I can find in the freezer!
-
There's a beef curry in the slow cooker - the smell is making me hungry already :D
-
It was supposed to be a roast chicken dinner, but some dopey plonker has left the chicken, cabbage and stuffing in a carrier bag in ML's hallway. so now it's not. The only meat left in the freezer is a 2KG lump of topside and that's not going to defrost in time for tea ::)
I'm off to Manjula's website for inspiration for this tin of chickpeas. :nowink:
-
Steak here as well, but it is early birthday dinner for OH as I am working late for the next couple of days. Baked potatoes and salad on the side.
-
Roast chicken with the usual today, it'll probably last me all week - one way or another  Only myself to blame, I usually halve them before freezing, but this one got left whole ::)
-
Roast chicken thighs & mashed potatoes with onion free gravy for me, might manage a yorkshire pud, will be peas & carrots for him & maybe roast peppers. Jelly for pud for me.
-
Pork chops slathered in chilli jam, served with rice, peas and beans
-
Chicken curry with indian selection and my dearest daughter is currently making a victoria sponge mmmm smells good
-
Last night turned into a chickpea curry - a little too much tomato for my taste but better than nothing. I picked the chicken up today, it was already cooked and passes the smell test but 16 hours out of the fridge on day 4 after cooking - I'm a little wary  So its chicken dinner with or without chicken :nowink:
-
Chicken pot pie with some extra veg on the side :) OH ended up having bread as well, as I had made sourdough loaves today and they called to him ... allegedly
-
Yesterday morning I discovered 2 marrows that were going fast - so ditch the plan and make a new one! Stuffed marrow rings (lamb mince with middle eastern spices etc) on buttered potatoes, plus a marrow korma (lunch) and a marrow and chilli soup for tonight's supper was the result. Also a batch of rolls baked with the marrow rings ...
I'm also getting leeks into the freezer - whites loose frozen as rounds and the greens steamed and frozen in boxes. The most space economical way of freezing them I can think of. But I am getting sick of the sight of leeks! Last bucket load due today ...
-
The same kind of thing happened here, cos I found a squash on the turn ::)
I sliced and baked the squash and had that with cold chicken and salad. That worked quite well so for the next few weeks I'll often be replacing supermarket spuds with Acorn squash as I've still got 12 of them left to use :D
-
Shopping day :D I've ordered a ready made chicken jalfrezi as a special treat. :tongue2: I'll just need to do some rice with it as that fell into the "I'm not paying that much for that" category.
-
Picked the bits off the chicken bones, added onion, pepper, tomatoes and squash to make a curry :)
-
Last night was roast sausages with roast veg - lots of it so there would be leftovers! Spoon standing obvs.
Substantial lunch so tonight will be light, marrow and chilli soup, rolls for OH.
-
I've got a Spanish omelette cooking, the frying onion smell delicious right now ;)
-
Still poorly after a week at chez Snowdrops, so not much going on here, a base for a cottage pie ftf & some matching gravy. Mash added to the top, b.beans & bread & butter for him.
-
In our family it is "How Much"  Mrs Bouquet
-
Quiche and Salad. Mrs Bouquet
-
Hubby & I have just decided on a ftf steak & kidney pie in component parts, we’ve got mash left over from the rather too much mash I made for the cottage pie, we’ve got carrots & peas in ftf. So were sorted with minimal effort again on yet another poorly day.
-
Scones, Scones and more scones. (see kitchen natter :D) Mrs Bouquet
-
Roast chicken with roast potatoes & parsnips, steamed carrots & broccoli, gravy. As we’ve been shopping we treated ourselves to a trifle as we’ve been poorly we thought we needed a treat.
-
As we’ve been shopping we treated ourselves to a trifle as we’ve been poorly we thought we needed a treat.
Hopefully you've seen the back of it Snow, especially if you're feeling more enthusiastic about pudding ;) Bugs that put you off food are the worst.
I nuked a spud, it was an effort. ::)
-
Thanks Lardy, getting there, still not much interest in food which is unlike me.
Hubby wanted hm pizza, so we had that with oven chips & I made a bit of salad. Hubby had more trifle but I had a fairy cake at my friends
-
I had carrot and swede mash with a gammon steak.
-
Tonight will be leftover chicken perhaps as a crumble or if I can persuade hubby even a curry.
-
I seem to have quite a 'collection' of chicken breasts in the freezer, so I'm defrosting a couple for tonight & tomorrow - not sure what to do with them yet, though ;)
-
... not sure what to do with them yet, though ;)
Curry :tongue2:
Shopping day, but I suspect the delivery slot will be too late for tonights dinner. I have a hankering for scrambled eggs on toast, hopefully the chicken will start laying soon
-
It was pizza last night with hm sourdough bases and luckily for me it is curry tonight. There has been chat about it recently that is just going to start curry munchies
We have lamb meatball and sweet potato curry on the menu :)
-
Chicken and mushroom pie with herbs and mash on top. (as in cottage pie), with carrots, parsnip, and celery.
Mrs Bouquet
-
Tonight will be leftover chicken perhaps as a crumble or if I can persuade hubby even a curry.
Hubby said nah, what about a good old chicken stew & dumplings done in the new pressure cooker, & he’s making it while I rest a bit, what more could a girl(in the loosest sense lol) ask for 😊
-
I had Tuna and sweetcorn with sweet chill dressing, at 5 ('cos I was starving ::) ) Scone and jam with a cuppa later.... just the ticket.
-
Lamb chops, roast potatoes & parsnips, peas, carrots & a gifted cabbage from my plot neighbour, redcurrant jelly, gravy. More of the bread & butter pudding I made yesterday with the leftover Christmas pannetonne
-
Chicken, mushroom and leek pie. The filling is all made and I can claim bragging rights for the leeks, plus the roasted garlic and herbs incorporated into the white sauce base.
Enough cooking now. I've got frozen pastry defrosting for topping it later and I'm off to play on the plot
-

Almost snap, Chicken, ham & leek pie, with frozen puff pastry. Hubby’s on the case tonight, so we’ll see what sauce it ends up with, & my leeks are homegrown too 😀
-
Pork fillet and mushroom goulash, at the time of eating it we said it could have done with more paprika but now I'm glad we didn't. It is repeating on both of us!
-
Chicken curry ftf with a bowl of salad :)
-
In the process of making a big sort of veggie thing for the oven. I shall a few bits of chicken and use up some left over mash, maybe poach an egg for the top.
-
Found a very, very, thin lamb cutlet in the freezer, so defrosted it over night - will gently pan fry it (to stop it getting too dry) and have cannellini beans and salad bits with it.
There's lemon sorbet in the freezer for pud ;)
-
Found a very, very, thin lamb cutlet in the freezer
I bought a bulk bag of lamb chops from our local butcher a few months ago and had some like that ::) They are a pain to think what to do with. I did something similar and lightly browned them, before cooking through gently over a pan of spicy beans with hm tomato sauce.
Tonight is roast chicken dinner with the other half of the bargain chicken I bought yesterday.
-
Liver and onions, mash, mixed veg and spoonstanding. I'm saving the cabbage for tomorrow.
-
Popped over to the farm shop & bought a few bits for the week, came away with 2 fillet steaks for dinner that were beautiful, with oven chips & a fried egg for him & salad for me, I even made a bit of thousand island dressing for a change.
Pud will be a slice of marmalade cake.
-
Homemade burger and chips. Accidently gave the nipper my chilli colslaw, the result of which was... interesting.
-
Cabbage :tongue2: I put liver and onions with it but mainly it was cabbage.
I wish I could grow decent savoys :( these tiny things they call cabbages now are little more than sprouts and gone in a meal.
-
Rack of ribs marinaded overnight in a homemade spicy, whisky BBQ sauce. Served with a salad and allotment broad beans with a dressing with way too much chilli in...
-
I have an appointment at the eye hospital today, were the volunteer in the café makes all her cakes and scones on Tuesdays. Say no more …….I have got a container with me to bring mine home.
If I feel really good might have a tuna salad.   Mrs Bouquet
-
Last of the liver and onions. Using up the plastic beans (wont buy those again) and the baby carrots. All done and plated , just needs nuking.
-
I had a Spanish omelette with grilled tomatoes :)
-
An odd assortment of fridge rubble today and mostly rooty stuff like carrots, celery, a bit of swede ...
Added defrosted mince, a few bonus plot spuds found while digging the old potato area and some herbs from the garden. Served it all with giant yorkshire puds found in the freezer. What did I buy them for  I must have had a plan at some stage, but what it was escapes me now
-

Haha, the plan was to have them with “fridge rubble” today, you know it was really....😂
The plan was for me to have my first portion of the vat of Madcats creamy beetroot curry that I made yesterday (thanks madcat, looks promising) but I was out for lunch & most of the day & when I got home I decided maybe a curry wasn’t the best idea as I was chairing my first AGM at the garden club.... so hubby volunteered to cook the belly pork we bought on Sunday as a mini roast dinner with stuffing, apple sauce, roast potatoes, peas, carrots & sprouts.
-
I had my Trashco delivery yesterday and somehow managed to order 3kg of Penne instead of 1Kg  so suppose I better start eating it
As it's an inside day, I'll have time to make a Greek Pastitsio, had some minced lamb delivered as well, luckily.
That made me smile remembering how often it's printed on Greek menus as 'lamp' ;)
-
Pasta - not really the weather for it but there's bits of chicken and some pesto to be used up before it grows fur and I CBA to be creative at the moment. ::)
-
Homemade bolognese, used up the last of the allotment carrots...
-
Ive had the leftover cottage pie from Monday with extra veg, & hubby had faggots from the farm butcher which he said were lovely(they’re not what I eat 😂) with mash & veg. I’m in need of pudding now though
-
Deconstructed cottage pie, it was as dull as dish water.
I've got lamb tagine in the slow cooker for ML's dinner tomorrow, it smells so good :tongue2: which really didn't help matters.
-
Steak & kidney pie ftf with mash, carrots, sprouts for me & b.beans for him, gravy. And it was lovely 😊
-
Tray bake of mackerel fillets, peppers, tomatoes and red onion, served on couscous with garden herbs.
-
Exotica tonight - Rose veal saltimbocca. It was a freebie from work. If stuff has to be pulled for anything other than safety reasons (usually labeling errors), or it is old stock getting written off, we get given it :)
Never eaten veal before, but it is UK red tractor standard, so I'm up for trying it.
-
mackerel fillets
That's what I had yesterday, as well, with coleslaw and usual salad bits ;)
I've got bread rising and there a virtually meat-free chilli in the slow cooker for later. I had much less mince in the freezer than I thought - oops!
-
Roast chicken, roast potatoes, stuffing, peas, carrots, cauliflower & broccoli, Yorkshire puds ftf( our 3 yr old granddaughter ate 2 😱, don’t think they have them very often at their house
-
Sausages, roast carrots, waffles (no chips in freezer) and lashings of gravy thick enough to repair potholes.
-
Chick peas, loads of peppers, and other veg, tinned tomato, and lots of paprika. crusty bread roll. Mrs Bouquet
-
Chicken stew with dumplings I’ve been informed 😊
-
waffles (no chips in freezer)
Not had those for years - keep meaning to stick some on the order, waffley-versatile don't you know. :nowink:
I did a chorizo and bean stew in the slowcoooker yesterday but don't really want it :( feels wrong to waste it by eating it when I'm not in the mood. Nuked a spud instead.
-
Roast chicken dinner :)
-
CBA fairy here today, so tinned tuna and tinned sweetcorn plus a dollop of mayo and some HM bread. Sorted!
Handful of sultanas and walnut pieces afterwards ;)
-
A post football KFC (How can I resist something called the Big Daddy box?) meant a big dinner was off the cards tonight. Cheese on toast miraculously morphed into chilli nachos and a bag of wine gums for pudding. Happily full
-
remainder of yesterdays rice, steak casserole from the freezer, and my special waldorf on the side. Mrs Bouquet
-
White pizza - no tomato, but topped with thin sliced par boiled potato, sliced onion, herbs and a strong tangy cheese, plus some green salad on the side. Olives added to my pizza, but none for OH.
The bases were sourdough and had been rising on trays all day, the topping was prepared that morning, so it was a 5 minute job and into the oven :)
-
The last couple of nights have been slow-cooked beef casserole with mash.
Today I'm making a batch of Cornish pasties, the pastry is resting in the fridge now.
-
Nothing - except some fresh fruit. Been to Craft Club all day which included, a ploughman's with all the cheese, ham, pickles etc. Cups of tea, cake and far too many biscuits. That's it  Mrs B,
-
Chinese chicken and egg fried rice :)
-
Sweet & sour chicken, rice & prawn crackers
-
Pasta bake because disrupted plans during the week left me with an odd assortment in the fridge to use up. It was OK though and I got away with it
-
Southern fried (baked) chicken, chips and coleslaw. Dessert is an abundance of Warsteiner beer.
-
Today I'm making a batch of Cornish pasties, the pastry is resting in the fridge now.
Quick question on these :) Is it normal shortcrust pastry and do you use mince or chopped meat. I fancy having a go :)
-
I use this recipe now Make your own Genuine Cornish Pasty | Cornish Pasty Association | Genuine Cornish Pasty : Cornish Pasty Association (http://www.cornishpastyassociation.co.uk/about-the-pasty/make-your-own-genuine-cornish-pasty/)
but do use the Co op's Lean Beef Steak Mince rather than the skirt in the recipe . When I made them with Tesco's cheap mince everyone said they weren't as nice, which makes sense I suppose ::)
I found I heaped teaspoon salt and the same of black pepper right for the seasoning.
Be warned, if you make 6 as suggested, they really are huge like the ones you have in Cornwall. I tend to make them smaller and get 8 out of the recipe, now!
-
Thank you for the link and extra tips :D
Tonight was dhal with potatoes and plot greens, spicy roast chicken, rice and yogurt mixed with fresh coriander, red onion and cucumber.
-
Christmas roast beef ftf, roast potatoes & parsnips,Yorkshire puds, gravy, peas, carrots, cauliflower, ratatouille
Apple cake & icecream
-
Post-swimming Generic Burger Emporium calorie rebalance for lunch meant a very late and light tea tonight, Freezer parsnip soup and a couple of curry seasoned boiled eggs for protein.
*edit* missed that I'd hit 1000 posts here! I need to get out more :D
-
Lunch was pork chop traybake, onions, peppers, squash and tomatoes, tea was carrot and coriander soup :)
-
Paul has had 'man flu' this weekend so only basic food stuff has been consumed (think fish fingers, burgers, chips and the like). Today he is feeling a bit better so I thought Spaghetti Carbonara, one of his favourites. It soon became clear about 6pm tonight I've got the 'lady' version (is it as bad as the 'man' kind?)
-
Micks chicken aka fried chicken strips with red onion, wedges with garlic, salad, mayo. ‘Twas lurverly😊
-
Spaghetti with hm tomato sauce out of the freezer, plus garlic and cheese bread. The bread was just because I had sourdough loaves on the go today :)
-
I had done too much gardening to be bothered with a proper roast today, so we had tray bake chicken with potatoes, swede, carrots and cauliflower :)
-
Pork loin roast, stuffing balls, roast spuds and onions, peas and cauliflower, with coffee and walnut cake for afters :)
-
Almost snap mum.....Roast pork & potatoes, Yorkshire pud ftf, peas, carrots, broccoli, stuffing, apple sauce, gravy.
-
Roast smoked chicken (brought back from France) with roast veggies (pots, squash, onion, parsnip FTF). And a bottle of red. It was an odd day and some spoiling was needed. But the diet has to start again today!
-
Chicken & chorizo Spanish bake, with peas & broccoli.
-
Leftover pork bits in dirty rice and then the last slice of coffee and walnut cake :)
-
Chicken and mushroom ommlette and chips!
-
Cold chicken with kale (it has come back nice this spring) and left over roast veggies. Jkt potato for OH
-
Tonight has to be salad, with reduced coleslaw, reduced hummus (which is loverly) reduced lettuce leaves etc, perhaps add a boiled egg. Why ? because last night I ate an entire toffee cheesecake
Its the large lady trying to get out. - no way. Mrs Bouquet
-
Tonight I'm having HM bacon and cheese quiche with a 'steam bag' of veg :)
-
Curry :D White fish and cauliflower in a tomato base, served with rice.
-
It was a wicked chippy tea on the way home .... Excellent! ::)
-
Snap Madcat. Chippy tea picked up on our way home as I have been helping Paul out with stocktaking except I really fancied a steak and kidney pie instead of fish. (Really unusual for me as I prefer fish to meat). ::)
-
Chip shop for us as neither of us fancied cooking or the leftover roast pork we were having. Must be years since we’ve been to the chippie at home, sometimes go at the seaside. £5.20 for a piece of cod! We had a mini fish & chips each....still too many chips for both of us & £4.40 each. Can’t understand how peo0le can afford to go regularly or feed a family there 😱
-
Homemade spaghetti bolognese :D
-
More psb, with cheese sauce and jacket pot for OH. Lovely!
Tonight I think it will be soup after a good lunch ... I have some hm chicken stock in the fridge, so lots of veg and some noodles for OH will do nicely.
-
Well it was the day to use up some of that pork, into a hotpot & 2 portions of sliced pork went in the freezer too.
-
Pork steaks with potatoes smothered in a cajun cheese chilli sauce.
-
Yesterday was a Pasty from the freezer with a steambag of mixed veg, not sure about today yet
-
Going to be pork and apple cooked in cider in the slo cooker .... jkt potato for OH or maybe he will just go for some bread chunks (slices would be tooooooo elegant!)
-
Also pork. The worlds smallest piece of belly in the slow cooker with tomatoes and the last of the dried waitrose mixed beans (Lardy recommended ;) ) . I wasn't sure this morning whether to do Boston beans or a pork chilli but the chilli powder came out in a lump this afternoon so Boston beans is definitely out. Spicy :tongue2:
-
Friday night Chinese takeaway bonanza!
-
The last of the french smoked chicken with beetroot gratin (already in the fridge, just needs a blast), greens (when I go down the plot) and some carbs for OH. Steamed pots probably.
After reading Lard's post, I'm planning a mega chilli for early next week when the next band of rain hits!
-
I've got a fancy for a curry, although the plan was that as I'm breadmaking this after I'd make a pizza crust...can always stick it in the freezer if I don't use it, I suppose ;)
-
Ox tail stoup. I call it stoup because its to thin to be stew but too thick to be called soup. :D
-
Seems like a good name to me!
Stuffed marrow with some buttered pots for OH. I have 4 left on the shelf and I know that it is a race against time ... I found a lovely squash yesterday, that wasn't. :( The skin was intact and nicely coloured but picking it up it, the skin gave and the mess was yukkky! >:(

Oh nooooo :( That is one of the stimkier, nastier messes to clear up in the shed ::)
We had a takeaway curry last night after a busy day and I'm working to silly o'clock later on as we have a big shop shift round. Lunch is going to be pork steaks with plenty of potatoes, veg and gravy :)
-
Mmm, a nice mess ::) some of mine are still hard skinned but horrid inside when cut yuk. I have 2 Tromba's left and started on one yesterday for the curry, they seem to be keeping better than the others.
Today I've got braising steak in the slow-cooker. I picked the last swede and some PSB yesterday, plus some of the kale had started sprouting, so cut those as well, to go with it.
Rhubarb crumble for later on :)
-
Prepped all the veg for a Mediterranean tray bake, along with finely chopped leek, carrot and anything else that was lurking. Shall add a tin of chopped toms, and herbs, garlic etc. Mrs Bouquet
PS: Tried that Freekeh last night, it was horrid Urgh.
-
PS: Tried that Freekeh last night, it was horrid Urgh.
As my Mum was keen on saying - at least you tried :tongue2:
-
PS: Tried that Freekeh last night, it was horrid Urgh.
"Meet Freekeh, the Supergrain That Might End Your Relationship With Quinoa..." Kinda says it all for me :nowink:
I've been using up the fridge gravel tonight which has been totally unsatisfactory as a meal :( I suspect I'll be nuking a spud in a bit.
-
Going to be toad in the hole (just got the sausages out of the freezer!) with roast parsnip (found yesterday on the plot) and onions. Gravy of course. A pint might be taken later, so that should provide good stomach lining!! ::)
-
Yesterdays tray bake turned into an enormous casserole. Had it with rice, and did enough for two days. So guess whats for dinner tonight. Tomorrow it will have to be with pasta. - Then all gone, lovely, and glad I made the effort. Mrs Bouquet
-
Tonight is hm pasties from the freezer, the last of the batch I made a couple of weeks ago and probably forgot to report ::)
Wedges to go with and some hm herby coleslaw. I've just picked a load of parsley, chervil and tarragon to go in it :)
-
Have a joint of (bargain) topside in the slow cooker, with in a bourguignon sauce. Tonight it will be sliced with roast veg (pots, squash, onion, parsnip etc) and some of the sauce. Later in the week there will be some cold and the bits will go back into the rest of the sauce (has shallots and mushies and bacon in there) to make a deluxe stew. A well spent £3.50! Thank you Mr Co-op.
Co-op moan tho' - with all their eco credentials, why can I only buy spices in fancy jars? I don't need or want the jar, so can they please do refill packs and reduce the un-needed packaging?? Bah.  Must find time to go to Fox's Spices in Stratford. Well filled and fresh poly bags. Soon.
-
Homemade creamy curry with rice.
-
Last nights Chicken hotpot that hubby had when I was indisposed but tonight it had dumplings 😉
-
Chicken casserole for us yesterday. I've got late shifts for the next couple of days, but OH has quiche stashed in the fridge.
-
Last night was pork and apple casserole cooked in the slow cooker (with a little cider and a few prunes in there), couscous for OH. Was good.
Tonight I am going to make a pie - chicken and leek I think. I haven't made one in ages. I have cut some white sprouting to go with it.
-
I found a small bag of cooked prawns in the freezer and was going to try and bodge something with pasta and a packet of cheap cream cheese we bought by accident. Paul asked what had I thought of for tea and said what he really fancied is a prawn salad! Men!!
-
I felt a disturbance in the force - did someone say pie ? :tongue2:
Life has been getting in the way again and there has been excessive use of the bag of spuds and the microwave. Tonight I have my eye on a can of beans and some slices of bread ::)
-
Cod Portuguese with lyonnaise potatoes, steamed peas, carrots & broccoli
-
Beef chilli wraps with a sort of radish and spring onion coleslaw.
-
Home made cheese and onion quiche - one of three made yesterday ( one each of cheese and onion, garlic mushrooms and smoked salmon) with jacket potatoes and salad. Followed by home made meringue nests - made from the left over egg whites when making the quiches, filled with whipped cream and peaches.
-
In Iceland they had British Rose Veal Sirloin steaks (170g) reduced to £2 (half price) so I bought the last 3 :)
Had one for tea with new potatoes, peas and broccoli - Absolutely gorgeous!
-
I felt a disturbance in the force - did someone say pie ? :tongue2:
You were the one who gave me pastry courage and encouraged me to make pie! Go on, you know you want to!
Going to be cold beef (from joint cooked earlier in week), purple sprouting and beetroot gratin. jacket pot for OH on the side.
The quandary is beetroot from the freezer already cooked and sliced (easy, makes room in freezer) or from the clamp (it is spring and they are starting to grow but they are keeping well in there without electricity etc and if I do them then I'll end up adding to the freezer selection cos it isnt worth only doing enough for one meal .....) Oh, and do I do a batch of hot cross buns, or at least sticky buns, in the oven when I am browning off the gratin? Not good for diet, but I do need to practice before Good Friday, don't I? ::)
Note : due to a 2 hour phone call !!! (broken hip and bored to tears) the hot cross buns have been postponed and the beetroot was ftf. ::)
-
After a good lunch (pasta salad with sorrel sauce, crab sticks and french beans (ftf)), tonight will be curried parsnip soup (the patch was cleared finally yesterday) with fresh bread. Keeping it simple.
-
Fish pie using a frozen fish mix from work - not bad actually :)
I also included a ton of veg from the fridge to use it up, so leeks, carrots, beans and broccoli was in there as well, plus we had the first handful of asparagus spears from the garden on the side :D
-
Everyone is too busy gardening to cook
I have eaten in between, but I can't remember the details except we had pasta bake one night here and veggie curry another.
Today was another curry day with spicy grilled mackerel fillets, tomato and spinach curry, naan, yogurt and mint, plus some hm lemon pickles. Very nice it was as well :)
-
Last night was first BBQ of the season night ... eaten very late as we were busy all day. It was supplied by a freezer raid (corn on the cob, sausages, chicken thighs and a lucky pack of oatcakes) and a quick trip to the village shop for veggies (pepper, banana, courgette) for sticks. A bottle of cold white and some prawn crackers ..,. job was a very good 'un.
Repeat has been requested for tonight, but I dont know if the freezer has the goodies. I can do flat breads ....  The butcher in the village is open this morning so a quick trip might be needed. ::) I bet he cant make burgers and sausages fast enough ...
-
I've been living off Freezer Suprise and takeaways all week while I've been building an extension to the sprog's bedroom, so tonight is going to be spicy chicken salad with some of the jumbo radishes from the polytunnel (biggest I've ever grown!)
-
Traditional roast leg of lamb here, usual pots, parsnips, carrots, cauli and the last of the swede with. Hm mint sauce on the side. Scallops for lunch as they've been in the freezer from Christmas and we decided they should be eaten rather than left any longer.
-
1st BBQ of the season, chicken skewers and Greek sausages (well past their sell by date). Mushroom rice leftover from the last indian takeaway. Followed by far too much Gin!
My modification to the fire pit is good. The heat source is on a platform which I can crank up and down depending on the temperature requirements.
Cheers, Tony :nowink:
-
Very simple tonight as too tired from gardening to bother much. Chicken, baked potatoes and veg. It was actually good and a lot less boring than it sounds, but then everything tastes great when you have been outside all day
-
That is soooo true!
It will be (bargain) cauliflower tonight, with cheese sauce and either jackets if I can be bothered, or bread chunks if I cant! :D
-
There have been a lot of nuked spuds here in recent weeks  I'm suffering from a prolonged case of the CBA's and pasta a pesto tonight is about all I can manage.
-
I'm suffering from a prolonged case of the CBA's
Blame it on the weather! At least it wasn't a lot of trips to the chip shop/Indian!
Ham, beetroot gratin (made when I did the cauliflower so it just needs nuking), steamed pots for OH, runners ftf. Easy after a long day.
-
Mushroom fu yung plus stir-fried veg and noodles.
-
Cold leftover Easter lamb with salad bits, yesterday - the last of it and the bone is going in the slow cooker soon, with lots of veg for tea, I might add some dumplings if the weather stays grotty ;)
-
Stuffed marrow on buttered potatoes tonight. Just 3 marrows in store and they need eating. It turns out that the mince I grabbed from the freezer is lamb, so it will probably have a middle eastern theme to the spices.
-
Marrow (yes the left over marrow from yesterday's rings) and vegetable korma, with pappadums and rice for OH.
Just one more marrow to go .... ::)
-
Sweet potato and beef mince curry, plus rice and yogurt :)
-
Roast sausages (sweet chilli) and veg (squash, onion, pots, parsnip) tray bake. Onion spoon standing. Easy peasy. And there will be lots of left over squash.
-
Mushrooms, garlic, red pepper and bacon bits (aka fridge gravel) on penne pasta, honey and walnuts with Greek yogurt afterwards :)
-
Roast chicken dinner :)
-
Homemade chilli tonight, two batches, mild for the wife & sprog, five fires of hell hot for me.
-
Last night was fried cod loin, croquet potatoes, mushy peas & bread & butter all made by hubby after I’d had a hard day out at a plant hunters fair lol.
Tonight it’s belly pork slices , roast potatoes & parsnips & whatever veg is lurking in the fridge, apple sauce & stuffing & of course gravy, my turn to cook tonight for hubby after he’s had a hard day beginning to refurbish our daughters garage doors.
-
Last night was meat loaf (found in the freezer when looking for ham!), reheated in onion gravy, with beetroot gratin (and 3 boxes of sliced beetroot to the freezer), lottie greens, and pots for OH.
Tonight it will be pork and apple casserole in the slow cooker, with the last of the apples from the store. Rice for OH on the side.
-
Yesterday was Pork Loin with boiled new spuds peas and carrots, tonight it's the rest of the pork in a stir fry.
-
Leftover chicken from the weekend, jazzed up into a spicy rice and veg stir-fry, with a fresh pineapple salsa on the side.
-
The perennial cauliflower I planted last year had several small heads on, so I made cauliflower cheese on a jacket potato plus had salady bits on the side.
-
Ham and veggie omlette followed by madras flavoured pork scratchings for pudding. Top stuff.
-
Tonight will see the end of the last marrow - stuffed with pork mince (thai style) and on buttered potatoes for tonight and the ends into the slow cooker to cook overnight for a korma to leave for OH while I'm on election duty.
This year's marrows need potting on ....
-
Have we all stopped eating? Must admit I've not been inspiring lately .. came back from planting beans (before the rain to water them in) late last night and just chucked some potato wedges and chicken at the oven. Must do better tonight ....
-
Same here, too busy for fancy eating ;) Last night was buttery crushed new potatoes with a few fried eggs on top.
-
I've been working a lot of evening shifts, so not much to report here either. Night off today :D
I've got curry munchies, but exact menu tbd ;)
-
Our meals have become a bit uninspiring of late, what with long days getting the plot & garden sorted & trying to use up what we have in the freezers it’s been a case of falling back on the same old same old.
But we are on holiday now & hubby always does all the cooking so it will be meat, potatoes & veg at a different venue lol. P.s he does cook at home too but we tend to take it in turns
-
I got a 10 out of 10 tonight! Lemon sole fillets skinned with finally chopped spring onions, courgettes and butter, splash of wine and cooked 'en papiollotte (sp)). Thin green beans and new potatoes to go with. My 'crown' will probably slip tomorrow.
-
I experimented with garlic focaccia which worked really well, with ham and coleslaw. On the other hand - with the amount of garlic - good job tomorrow is a working from home day!
-
Look on the bright side. You'll be safe from vampires for the next day or so
We ended up with a fish and cauliflower curry, made with a tomato and onion base sauce. Looks like Listerine all round then :D
-
Cannellini bean cassoulet with some crusty bread for me :)
-
Greek oven-cooked beans with cheese puffs and salad bits.
-
Pizza!
-
Fillet steak to use up the other half of the peppercorn sauce we had on Wednesday night lol, cost us all of £7 something, from the wonderful services farmshop here in Tebay, a lovely holiday treat.
-
Yesterday was spicy chicken and sweet potato wedges, with pineapple salsa and a yogurt and coriander sauce :)
-
Yesterday, whilst' digging' in the freezer we found some pork chops and decided to have them with a full roast type meal. Now, having spent a lovely day out in the sunshine, we have decided we don't want a 'heavy' meal and are going to use up the salad stuff we have with the chops and make some potato salad (especially now we have tasted the Welsh onions I bought on holiday last year).
-
Toad in the hole with psb (last bits before the plants go) and onion gravy. The sausages were maple sweet chilli from the local butchers and were gorgeous (my new fav flavour I think), and I put squash slices and very small red onion quarters under the batter too.
-
Cooked spicy pulled chicken in the slow-cooker and then made some flatbreads to wrap it in, filled up with lettuce and rocket from the greenhouse salad tray :)
Yum, I'll be doing that recipe again.......
-
Meatballs in tomato sauce with farfalle
-
Sausages with new potatoes from the greenhouse and asparagus from the garden :D
-
Sweet & sour chicken,rice,prawn crackers.
-
I had the last of the spicy chicken with veggies - SB from the plot and steam bag mixed veg from the freezer.
-
Omlette and chips, no veg tonight so a supplement of red wine for vitamin reasons...
-
Fish pie tonight with carrots, peas & broccoli I should think
-
Roasted chicken quarter with spuds and the first mangetout from the greenhouse, asparagus from the raised bed in the garden and greens from the plot - got the triple there :D
-
Almost the last of the Christmas beef(just 1 portion left!) yorkshire puds, roast potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli cooked for me by hubby
-
Cottage cheese with onions and chives in a jacket, along with fine green beans cooked, cold with mint sauce and olive oil stirred in. 4 beans salad. coleslaw, mixed pepper salad with raw sugar snap beans and grapes with mustard and cress atop. I am only saying because it is so rare for me to make all this :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Fish pie,garlic bread,carrots,broccoli,asparagus.
-
Snowdrops, you must like your fish pie, you had it a couple of weeks ago. :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Snowdrops, you must like your fish pie, you had it a couple of weeks ago. :D Mrs Bouquet
Haha yes we have it quite frequently & will be having it again as my sister is coming & although she eats fish she is vegetarian 😊 plus I make a very good fish pie 😂
Tonight or this afternoon was a bbq at our daughters, so sausages, chicken breast with fennel, pork spare ribs, halloumi & veg kebabs, coleslaw, pasta & pesto, potato salad, green salad, tomato salad.
-
Salt and pepper slow roasted spare ribs, broccoli in garlic sauce and rice.
-
I had Greek oven-cooked beans, from the freezer, with potato fritters and salad on the side.
-
A bean theme here as well. Spicy pork stew with chickpeas, plus rice and a yogurt salady thing with mint, cucumber, tomato and onion a.k.a half a pot of plain yogurt to use up and some fridge gravel, plus herbs from the garden
-
Ham, egg and mystical Friday chips :D
-
We got half a chicken out of the freezer yesterday to defrost overnight. ( We always buy a whole chicken when reduced and then cut it in half.) Our idea was that if the weather was good we could have it with salad or if the forecasted rain arrived we could have a roast. We have gone with the salad route as we have had a lovely day today although the wind has picked up now and there is a 'damp' feel in the air. Guess we will be watering tonight.
-
Roast leg of lamb, steamed (bought) jersey royals (not brilliant, rather poor with black marks under the sk8ns on lots)steamed- carrots, peas, cauliflower, asparagus, gravy, red currant jelly, gooseberry & mint jelly, Yorkshire puddings, gravy. Oh melon to start with.
-
Chicken with greenhouse new potatoes and mangetout, plus the last pick of asparagus for the year from the raised bed at home.
-
Some more of yesterday's Lasagna with steam bag veg.
-
It's the right weather for Greek Lamb Gyros with Tzatziki and wedges 8)

-
Steak & kidney pie ftf, so glad hubby suggested it this morning as after 6+ hours on the plot it was just the ticket, with more new (bought) potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli & spoon standing
-
Slow cooked beef bourguignon with a crusty baguette and lashings of butter :)
-
Yesterday was hm meatballs with hm tomato sauce from the freezer (sob - the last made with our tomato crop from summer 2018), plus lots of pasta. I'd been gardening all day and was a bit carb hungry :D
-
Yesterday was pork loin steak with green beans and the Hurst Greenshaft peas and tonight it's mushroom omelette, salad and Arran Pilots :)
-
Mushroom and spinach dhal plus rice tonight :)
-
Beef chilli with nachos, guacamole and sour cream.
-
We were both tired and hungry after a busy day each, with not much time. Hmmmmm, swing by Co-op on the way home, see burgers in the reduced bit, add rolls and salad, get home, cook and apply to face.
That's better :D
-
Roast boned & rolled turkey(left over from a good buy before Christmas , roast potatoes,hm Sage & onion stuffing. Steamed peas, carrots,br beans (ftf) fr beans, peas. Yorkshire puddings
-
Last night was a HM Cornish pasty with tinned beans, to night I added some mince and spices to the rest of the beans to make a chilli served over steam-bag mixed veg with some HM sunflower seeded bread :)
-
Hadn't booked anywhere for Father's day so I cooked up an obscene mixed grill for us tonight, no meat not included. Sprog tried king prawns for the first time (loved them) and even tried my homegrown, homemade hot sauce. It went better than expected, he's got his Dad's tolerance for heat!
-
Busy with a garden tidy-up so a Lasagna from the freezer with a salad bowl from the Co op
-
Left overs from last night but with mash, strawberries & pl yog
-
Curry fest :D Got a lamb and chickpea curry base out of the freezer and added some fresh veg to liven it up.
Served with rice, a fresh pineapple and chilli salad/salsa thing, another made with onion, cucumber and tomato, some spicy pickled lemon slices and lastly, the end of a tub of plain yogurt that was knocking about it the fridge.
-
Jacket potato and some tinned tuna, with HG peas and grated carrot, chopped cue, onion and celery salad in mayo.
-
Hm pizza :) Just simple tomato sauce and cheese, but good :)
-
HM moussaka :)
-
Pasta with HM cheese and mushroom sauce and some really tasty Italian chicken sausages.
-
Busy, busy day so we ended up with a chip shop tea. I'm drifting off in a chip induced haze now though
-
Tuna steaks with a chilli and coriander glaze, with salad and crusty bread. The tuna was a discontinued line from work I got given for free, so that was a bonus :)
-
Dug up new potatoes on the plot yesterday, so they are for tea. I was too hot and too tired from gardening yesterday to boil spuds
Anyway, they are on the menu tonight and were volunteers I discovered amongst the garlic that I harvested yesterday. I've also got plot greens and french beans to go with them and some chicken joints defrosting to go with it all. I think a home grown garlic and herb rub on the chicken will be in order to complete the smug face feeling :D
-
Yesterday was spicy spare ribs with wedges, coleslaw and salad bits.
Tonight it's fridge gravel pasta with lots of cheese :D
-
I was going to have a fairly quiet pottering about day, but got carried away and did a large and probably silly number of jobs, plus didn't stop to eat much.
Now fairly cream crackered and a large dose of spag bol and garlic bread was needed :) I think a glass of vino collapso may also be required ... for purely medicinal grounds of course ;)
-
Fresh picked pink fir apple potatoes, Italian Chicken sausages drowned in a slow cooked tomato and garlic sauce. Desert is an agreeable red and, if required, plentiful amounts of cider. Not for medicinal purposes, it's Saturday night lush time ;)
-
Mackerel and new potatoes roasted with chilli and garlic, plus colelsaw and beetroot salad. All the veg was homegrown, even the herbs and seasonings :)
-
Dragged to Spoons for an Sunday Brunch. Did spend the afternoon at the allotment though.
-
Carne Asada with a nice and spicy pea and pepper risotto. Marinated the beef for over 24 hours and it was just so full of melty goodness!
-
We had roast lamb (bargain snaffled at work) with loads of plot veg - new potatoes, beetroot, cabbage and beans :)
-
After three nights of cottage cheese and salad (when there is only one person, you have to use the tub up !)
So tonight I shall chang e the menu and have erm . Egg Salad ::) Mrs Bouquet
Since posting earlier. I have been to the Supermarket, and bought some chicken drumsticks and thighs, chucked garlic and 5 spice over them and chucked them in the oven with a quiche that thawed while I was out.
-
Last night was a feta salad with melon, onion, cucumber and tomato, plus grated beetroot salad, green leafy salad and pita breads.
Today will be cold lamb, plus more varying salads. I've bought yogurt and have mint in a pot at home, so I am thinking a new potato salad in a yogurt and mint dressing and we'll go from there.
Cool, refreshing food is all I want at the moment :)
-
Did anyone eat anything hot over the last few days  No chance here  I made various salads, filled the fridge with stuff that could be eaten cold and left OH to it, while I was doing some long and late shifts at work. I foraged for my share when I got home
Anyway, the salads were nearly all home grown - new potato salad, a blanched green bean salad, a Lebanese cabbage salad, roasted tomato salad and a grated beetroot salad.
Tonight I'm still on the simple options and will be cooking pasta and guess what ... salad, but this time a green leafy one. I may chuck some garlic bread in the oven to make it look like I have more of an effort than I actually have ;)
-
Last night was silly hot chilli/ chocolate con carne, wife and sprog went for something lighter...
Tonight is a pizza and beer!
-
I've been working on the plot for quite a time today, so a decent meal was needed tonight. Roast chicken, roasted plot spuds and steamed plot cabbage and french beans did the trick :D
I must have looked a bit frazzled when I got home. OH went to the Co-op down the road for a few things and brought me back a bottle of Magners cider. He put in the fridge saying 'You look like you need this for later'
-
I've been working late that last couple of nights so back to salads stashed in the fridge and cold bits to eat with.
Tonight was chilli and rice. I did start with a beef and tomato base from the freezer, but it ended up mostly veggie chilli after I cleared the fridge out. Good though :)
-
Hm lasagne with fresh pasta ( hubby had to quickly make some for me as I had a John Cleese moment looking for the frozen pasta sheets I thought were in there!!)
Mixed beans - green, yellow & purple French beans, runner & broad beans. Cauliflower
-
Beef chilli wraps, nipper loved the current homemade hot sauce made from last years Razzamatazz harvest.
-
Roast turkey, (the oven was on from the cake-bake), new potatoes, carrots, celery and peas and gravy Mrs B
-
Hubby is in charge & has informed me it is chicken thighs in a hot pot, his go to dish when it’s his turn to do the dinner!
-
Last night was very simple - pork steaks, plot spuds and plot french beans.
Tonight was home made (and home grown) tomato and courgette sauce over pasta with meatballs from the freezer, followed by plot raspberries and cream :D
-
Roasted vegetable lasagne with homegrown courgettes, aubergines and tomatoes. We also had some sweetcorn, which didn't really go, but the first couple of cobs were ready and they were getting eaten whatever else was on the menu
-
Yesterday I had picked a bowl of cherry tomatoes,a red pepper, a courgette, onions and garlic plus there is basil in the greenhouse. So I made a sauce with the veg, a couple of meatballs from mince and breadcrumbs and served over spaghetti.
Spare sauce and pasta frozen in pots for another day :)
Tonight it's a Spanish omelette with French beans in a dressing and other salady bits.
-
I need to make a french bean salad - we have loads ... and loads ::) Thanks for the inspiration :D
Tonight was mackerel fillets, oven roasted new potatoes, sweetcorn and beans, with all the veg being home produced :)
-
Got back from Spain yesterday and dinner was fish and chips, washed down with a nice heavy stout! Much needed :D
-
Lagagne made with roasted homegrown aubergines in a tomato and beef mince sauce. It was lovely, but pud was plot raspberries and figs from the tree in the front garden with creme fraiche and that won hands down 8)
-
Lasagne for me too (ftf) with a medley of hg beans & sliced yellow & green courgettes baked with Parmesan on top
-
Pork chop a la George with coleslaw, peas and minted potatoes - everything except the chop and mayo from the plot :)
-
Lamb Gyros in Pittas, with spicy wedges and a Greek salad - well, we've got their weather 8) so I needed to eat the food that goes with it :D
Alas no Mythos, but I'm sure some cold cider will go down just as well
-
Chicken pieces in a bbq type sauce, jacket potato, salad, beetroot fresh from the plot & cooked yesterday (was lovely)
-
I was working late yesterday and OH had been cooking bacon when I got home .. and eaten it all  How cruel is that :tongue2:
Tonight is going to be lamb chop chops with plot spuds and veg :)
-
Another Scotch Egg !, beetroot, coleslaw, salad. :D Mrs Bouquet
-
Been doing a few late nights in a row, but not tonight 8)
Roast dinner with plot spuds and veg was just what was needed. OH managed plot raspberries and ice-ream as well, but I was too full to join in
-
Ham, egg and chips with mushrooms and pan fried tomatillos from the plot. Think I prefer them raw though, the flavour is very intense when they're cooked.
-
Last night was leftover roast from the weekend, reheated in gravy, boulangere potatoes and plot cabbage.
Tonight is pasta bake with roasted veg - home grown aubergine, pepper, tomato and courgette. I'm planning a plot raid on the way home from work for sweetcorn to go with it. the second crop is just coming ready now :)
-
Busy, busy, busy like everyone I expect. Harvesting and stashing crops has meant some rushed evening meals, even when I haven't been working.
Anyway, night off, home alone ... woohoo license to go mad :D I actually have another busy planned gardening, but I am prepared. Crispy duck and pancakes ready meal on standby with plot cuke and thin sliced onion to go with. I may even go totally off piste and add some hm chutney.
The green tomato one I made last year would be perfect. It is an unusual recipe where you strain the tomato chunks out of the liquid, reduce that to setting point, then add the tomato back in. It ends up bright green, full of texture and yummy :D
-
It’s all been very quiet on here hasn’t it? Where’s Lardman? Has there been a shortage on nuked potatoes & cheese?.
Hm burgers for us ftf, courgettes in mine, chips for him, salad for me plus a corn on the cob methinks, might even push the boat out & make a bean salad
-
Slow cooker gammon last night with plot spuds and cabbage :)
I also made tomato sauce yesterday, so leftover gammon is going in pasta bake with that for tonight :)
-
Chicken breast in jerk spices with veggie rice yesterday, today is roast veg pasta bake, with lots of cheese on top. I had my Trashco delivery yesterday and I had re-ordered my favourites without checking how much cheese was in the fridge
Cheese overdose on the cards this month, I think
-
Cheese overdose on the cards this month, I think
There are worse things I can think of ;) As we all know, cheese does make everything better and hot bubbly golden cheese has transformative powers that are beyond description
My pasta bake will be sporting a topping of it tonight :D
-
This lot had pineapple chicken. White sauce, garlic, ginger, onions/leeks, chicken and smoked bacon with rice, peas and sweetcorn.
As we all know, cheese does make everything better and hot bubbly golden cheese has transformative powers that are beyond description
Tomorrow will be the rest of the bird. Rosemary with mozzarella stuffed under the skin.
-
Lasagne & salad for me & for the salad dodger chips, fried egg & bacon
Stewed plums & pl yog for me
-
We had a busy day yesterday, so no roast dinner. OH was a bit sulky,
I made up for it today with a lamb joint I got given at work because there was some sort of issue with the labeling. It means they can't be sold, but the staff get handed stuff like that rather than it go in the bin. Roast plot spuds and veg to go with it, then baked apples for pud :D
I have won back my domestic goddess points ;)
-
Eldest is eating at the Grandparents so Husband and youngest are having pasta (youngest) with a pork and bean slow cooker bake.
Onions, garlic, mixed herbs, smoked paprika, passatta, smoked bacon, pork chunks and butchers sausages.
Steamed marmalade sponge for afterwards. Home made marmalade and I added coco powder to try and make it a chocolate orange sponge. I discovered that you can cook it in the slow cooker for 3 hours, rather than having to babysit it for 90 minutes in a pan.
Warming on a cold day like this.
Yesterday was chicken, with home made stock, smoked bacon, (only 1 packet smoked bacon left in the shop so we're bulking it out) and unsmoked bacon in a garlicky white sauce. Added smoked paprika to help oomph up the smoked aspect. It was pink but very successful with mashed potatoes and more beans for Husband.
Tomorrow is chicken noodle soup.
Beans are home cooked in the pressure cooker, 20 minutes on the lowest setting.
-
On a wet and miserable day like today, I fancied.....shepherd's pie ::)
That takes me back to making when my children were still at home  I had to put baked beans in it in those days, though, to get them to it eat it.
I'll have mine with peas and cauliflower.
-
Having endured a children's birthday party this afternoon I had no alternative to treat myself to a Chinese takeaway and all the cider for pudding.
-
Comfort food here as well :)
Roast chicken dinner with the potatoes and veg all homegrown, then baked apples for pud, with apples I picked from the garden.
OH has a bottle of cider but he says he has bought me a San Miguel, so I might have to go investigate that in a minute :D

Yesterday's tea was stuffing meatballs in a white sauce with mashed potatoes and peas for the kids.
Husband had in addition fried onions with cabbage with me. Fried the onions and then added the cabbage with pepper and a bit of butter and cheese. Omn nom nom nom amazing nom. Husband had bacon in his. It was amazing, it's been ages since we had bacon and 'bidge (what youngest called cabbage).
Tonight they're having sausage casserole. I'm having more actually because leftovers.
That's the thing I forget, I love Chinese, Italian, French food, Husband loves curries. But nice warming simple but totally satisfying British food is the best on a nasty, cold, windy day.
-
Yesterday I made a thick vegetable stew and a garlic flatbread., 4 portions for the freezer.
The stew had a lot of butternut squash in it because the rind had cracked and started to mould. I'm cooking the fat end tonight with a spicy mince & rice mix in the cavity :)
-
Home cooked ham, hm coleslaw, salad, courgettes chutney for me, b.beans for him, cheese
Pud for me will be baked oats with blackberries & raspberries,pl yogurt

Today I had a baking afternoon.
2 Batches of biscuits, one one divided in two with different additions. One was date and walnut, the other was chocolate chip.
3 Banana bread loaves (most will be gifted).
1x Pear and chocolate sponge (will freeze portions)
1x pear and foraged cooking apple crumble (will freeze portions)
1 x sweet sourdough loaf. A Sweet one isn't aged for days so it's not as sour.
Home made oven chips (rosemary and garlic for Husband) with garlic chicken and peas.
Custard available for those who wanted it.
My arm is aching from all the chopping and peeling. 2Kg of pears, 730g of apples as they were rather small windfalls.
-
Creamy garlic chicken (from my new Pinch of Nom cookbook) with rice,& green beans
-
I've been watching Jamie's Meat Free Meals on catch-up (channel 4), so tried the tomato curry recipe the other night. He calls it Amazing Tomato Curry - hmmmm it's nice enough but I have another one I prefer ;)
Anyway I ate the leftovers yesterday with sourdough toast when I got home from work. It had got better from a day or so in the fridge :)
-
Last night's Husband/ Small Child offering was mashed potatoes with sausages based on a Nigella Lawson recipe. Original had ginger conserve (substitute home made marmalade), mustard, soy sauce. I added pineapple and home made chicken stock.
Tonight I'm having vegetable soup. Husband's having beef strips in steak marinade with mushrooms, onions, French beans and potatoes.
-
Cheese sandwich and two small tomatoes. Mrs B
-
Last night was hm pie - veggie version with a broccoli and cauliflower cheese filling. That was very good and I'l' be making it again :)
Tonight is curry night :D I've made the base and got some veg prepped to go in. It is coconut based so just some plain rice to go with it and I might do an onion/tomato/cucumber salad and some poppadums as well :)
-
Tonight I forgot to take something out of the freezer so it was gammon chunks in honey mustard sauce with mushrooms and mashed potatoes. Meant to add the last pineapple rings into it but likewise I forgot.
-
Roast pork with crackling, mash potatoes, carrots, kohl rabi and the last of the runner beans.
-
Boulanger potatoes topped with freshly caught trout fillet, carrots &. More runner beans & what I think will have to be the last sweetcorn cob, it was a bit wet & stringy :(
-
Tonight the kids are having meatballs and mashed potatoes, Husband having something red, probably with chillis in it and pre marinated from the freezer. Hooray for mystery meat :tongue2:.
Tomorrow is roast pork loin, home made chips, possibly with rosemary and some vegetables. Voting starts when I start cooking.
-

-
Pesto pasta with bacon and mushrooms.
-
Yesterday was lamb Keema, riced cauliflower and a salad bowl - tonight - the last of the HG tomatoes in a veggie Bolognese over a sliced courgette, with lots of cheese to cheer it up :D
Somehow it doesn't seem right that I will have to start buying cue and tomatoes from the s/market again ::) It's been such a short growing season this year :(
-
Last night I surprised myself. I actually roasted a chicken, covered in garlic, P & S, and mixed herbs, carrots a parsnip, fine green beans, and roasties. Tonight, cold chicken and salad, tomorrow chicken risotto with left over veg stirred in. At least I hadn't forgotten how to do it ::) Mrs Bouquet
-
Tonight Husband has a choice having left over red Mystery Meat. Which based on him having the other bit in the bag is pork and spicy so possibly home made Cajun spice powder. Or left over pork from last night with the apple and blackcurrant sauce. Youngest is having either left over pork or sausages. Eldest is eating with the Grandparents. I'll make veg soup for me.
Served with potatoes, broccoli and peas. Tomorrow will be chicken cooked with some herbs or spices.
-
Hm pizza, wedges & salad
-
Tonight it's Porchetta and some sort of vegetable. They won't make up their minds and pick something.
Tomorrow will be chicken.
-
Using up the chicken roast to make risotto, everything prepped and ready to go.
-
Roast lamb, potatoes, no doubt carrots when i go & pull them up, sure to be a few gr beans, gravy & gooseberry & mint jelly, maybe a nice glass of red. :)

-
Pork chop with onion gravy, mashed swede & carrot plus cabbage.

-
Roast lamb, potatoes, no doubt carrots when i go & pull them up, sure to be a few gr beans, gravy & gooseberry & mint jelly, maybe a nice glass of red. :)
Added some black Tuscan kale with garlic, chilli & rosemary ala Sophie Grigson. I hadn’t got any fresh chillies so used a tsp of chilli oil, about took my breath away when it went in the pan
-
Must use up the rest of this chicken. Shall do curry today with left over veg. Will freeze it though as I am chickened out. Stewed the carcass as well, so shall freeze stock. Probably have a jacket with cheese and salad. Mrs B
-
Chicken with mutant sauce with mashed potatoes and peas. Regret not having mushrooms.
Sauce started off as one thing (chicken and pineapple) and then it mutated into something else. Brown. It had onion, garlic, pineapple, parsley, honey, mustard and milk thickened with cornflour. But I added too much cornflour and it was like cement so I had to add more and more milk to thin it.
But they loved it... ???
-
Sprog and I got thoroughly soaked on the school run, so we comforted ourselves with a chippy dinner; Battered sausage for the nipper and fish for me. Happy days :)
-
Tonight is lamb with potatoes, peas, carrots and maybe cabbage if anyone wants some.
I'm having buttery cabbage with onions.
-
Yesterday was my first try of my homemade Trinidad Scorpion hot sauce  , smothered over some pork chops and served with cheesy mash. I may have got a slight sweat on...
Tonight is most likely a Friday night takeaway.
-
Tonight Husband is having my version a Diane Henry recipe lamb koftas. Plums, not cherries and rice rather than bulgar wheat from Diana Henry. Crazy Water, Pickled Lemons: Enchanting dishes from the Middle East, Mediterranean and North Africa.
Children may end up having emergency sausages if he doesn't like it.
-
Hello I'm having home made beefburgers with fried onions I think there's foods on here that would put me off food for life jezza
-
I think there's foods on here that would put me off food for life jezza
The people who are eating it obviously don't feel the same way. It's always fascinating when a large group of us go out for a meal, all the different choices people make :D Somethings I'd never order but they just love. Each to their own …..
I've put the last of the ripened tomatoes into a Bolognese sauce for tonight and some for the freezer :)
-
We all have different tastes, Jezza.
I hate beefburgers
-
I love a really good, well made burger!
But then a bit of everything does you good. Tonight was a rack of ribs marinaded in my spiteful hot sauce with curly fries and homemade sauerkraut.
-
As it happens, we had a burger with chips and salad last night. Spuds and salad from the plot :)
-
I'm cooking a small ham joint which I've coated it with honey & mustard. Sliced squash just gone in to roast alongside. Carrots, cauli and peas to go with it :)
-
Last homegrown salad of the year with anchovies, boiled eggs, salsify and fried potatoes.
-
Tonight Children/cabbage haters had sausages and mash. Cabbage lovers aka Husband had cabbage cooked with onions and mash. Husband had bacon with his.
Fresh sourdough was available to those who wanted it.
-
First night off work in over a week whoop whoop :D
I'm feeling a little deprived of decent dinners, so tonight is steak and salad. I also bought super chunky oven chips and doorstop bread earlier. I was at work again, but finished at tea time ;) They may be being combined into a mega chip butty to go on the side fairly soon :)
-
This lot had chicken in parsley sauce with home made chips and sweetcorn. Sourdough still optional.
-
super chunky oven chips
Which make did you buy? The other day, I squeezed all the bags in the usual frozen food emporium in the high st, and none of them were actually chunky, even the roasties were flat as pancakes. Presumably it's been a bad year for spuds, but even so..... Needless to say I didn't buy any.
Today I had cold honey roast ham with mashed swede & carrots with cabbage.
-
Today I had cold honey roast ham with mashed swede & carrots with cabbage.
OMG, that sounds absolutely amazing. Well I know what I'm dreaming of tonight. Also I'm drooling everywhere. Totally regretting being a vegetarian right now. Never mind the fact we're miles apart.
-
super chunky oven chips
Which make did you buy?
The own brand skin on chunky chips from the same emporium. It is a smaller bag than the big bulk bags. They were pretty good. I'd recommend them :)
-
There is no ham or gammon in the freezer so I've had to get mince out. It's to make my version of an Enchilada using a Homesick Texan recipe. My version meaning I'm doing my best given I don't have the many different types of chillis she has. But I have some smoked chipotle sauce stuff and chilli flakes. I'm debating do I go looking for frozen tortillas or try make some. Either way I'm hoping that this will suffice.

-
Feedback on last night. He ate it.
I actually followed it quite closely but I also read a Hairy Bikers recipe and they used tomato. What Husband eats is more Mex than Tex-Mex which has tomato in the sauce. So I added passatta to half the mince rolls and asked him which was nicest. It was the ones with tomato in.
Tonight is chicken and mashed potatoes with carrots.
-
Chicken in a cheese and leek sauce, french beans and celeriac mash. All the veg grown myself for the first time this year. Delicious.
-
Chicken in a cheese and leek sauce, french beans and celeriac mash. All the veg grown myself for the first time this year. Delicious.
It's a great feeling when you sit down to a meal you've grown, isn't it?
-
Tonight I'm having a Basa fillet with lemon/pepper breadcrumbs with a steam bag of mixed veg.
-
Sausage, egg and chips.. Our eggs and chips, some top sausages reduced at the coop.
The big question being with baked beans or not. Squidgy white bread and butter for the chip butties. Oh I love haute cuisine! :)
-
Nipper is away on school trip for a few nights, so the good lady and I went out for a slap up meal. Mushroom risotto for her, steak and chips for me!
-
Stir-fry with chicken, noodles and shitake mushrooms, plus various oriental greens from the greenhouse.
Sausage, egg and chips.. Our eggs and chips, some top sausages reduced at the coop.
The big question being with baked beans or not.
Oh you see that would be a bone of contention in our house  I'd say yes, but OH is one of those strange Scottish types that insists on brown sauce with chips. He would sulk if I contaminated his plate with tomato sauced beans and say they didn't go. Proper minefield this haute cuisine lark ::)
-
Irish stew, dumplings for some
-
Leftovers clear out night.
Kids having chicken from the carcass they had last night in a tomato sauce with rice.
Husband having koftas with grated carrot in pitta breads and rice.
Soup for me.
Voting has opened for tomorrow's dinner but their swithering between lasagne and salmon. It would help if 1/3 of the vote wasn't voting for noodles?
-
I've put a bag of chicken 'pickings' and stock (frozen last time I roasted one) in the slow-cooker with swede, carrots, garlic, whole shallots, a few squashy tomatoes, dried green peas, yellow split peas and pearl barley. That's that me sorted for a couple of days, then ;)
-
Home made meat balls in a home grown tomato sauce with home grown spud mash and Gujerati style cabbage (bought) and home grown carrots. Gert biguns also home grown Autumn Kings.
Cheers, Tony.
-
Tonight is salmon cooked with leeks and broccoli with pasta in a white sauce.
After tea last night I was sore and fell asleep so we got to the shop late to get milk. Just at yellow label reduction time. We got 2x 1kg of lamb roast for £1 each down from £10 & £11. 10x pork chops for £3.10 down from £10.50, 4x lamb leg steaks for £1 and 2x £1kg heritage breed luxury pork roasts for £1.40 each down from £8 and 2x Warburtons for 12p each down from £2.40. I am still on a high.
-
Honey mustard pork chops with mashed potatoes and French beans.
-
The oven is on for bread baking, so I am also cooking steak and onion pasties, one for tonight the rest for the freezer.
-
Those pasties sound good :D but I am not being distracted
Curry here with chard from the plot and white fish fillets from the freezer. Also going to do rice, poppadoms, pickles and lassi yogurt drink to go with it. Too wet and miserable to venture up the road to the takeaway, so a DIY version will have to do ;)
-
Home made beef bourguinon has been simmering away for the last 4 hours, going to have it with a bit of mash and fresh baked baguette.
-
Val made a large vat of curry the other week and we froze what we didn't eat. Should have split it into 3 portions in hindsight as it's very filling. Onion bhajis & naan bread + rice. I like my curry hotter than Val so added some super lethal Indian chilli pickle into the curry with some less lethal (even I have my limits) on the side.
Really enjoyed it despite it being vegan :D
What's left will feed 5 girls this morning so long as they convert it to eggs!
-
Really enjoyed it despite it being vegan :D
 Good curry is a feast and a vegan one can hold its own. I like dhals, potato and spinach (for which read any leafy greens I have on the plot), sweet potato and chick pea, cauliflower and coconut and there are loads more in my battered kitchen notebook. I think it makes a difference having a long heritage of eating veggie and vegan meals way before the rest of us caught on, so the recipe library is pretty sound and well tested :)
It is not a vegan night here tonight though as we are having roast pork, roast plot spuds and various plot veg on which a final decision is yet to be reached :)
-
Tonight is much the same by request, pork chops but maybe with a plum or blackcurrant sauce. Potatoes and broccoli as veg. I'm having celeriac and broccoli soup from a Covent garden cookery book.
I'm glad those chops were reduced, they weren't worth the full price.
They were really poorly cut without that nice curved bone. It had random odd chunks of bone waiting to surprise the eater and shrapnel bits everywhere. From large pointy sharp bits and rather small pale grainy bits that were hard to see covering the chop where the butcher/hacksaw merchant cut through the bones so the marrow came out and smeared everywhere. The marrow grit was like seasoning, covering the chop. In both boxes the ones on the bottom also were not chops, they were end of the cut. So instead of the nice round eye with the strip of fat and bone so it looks like a comma it was veined through with fat and more splat shaped. I can always casserole them but it just confirms my mistrust of the chops. The Queen of Yellow Labels told me they were £1.50, just take them.
No one was injured in the consuming of the chops, they were washed and given a good if overly personal scrape / massage / fondle / inspection. Husband thought I was being weird to them when he found me dragging my nails down them to crape the marrow grit off.
Hey ho, at least they aren't hairy and got a snout or toes on them.
-
Last night's dinner changed. They discovered extra ragu sauce in the freezer so the chops were cooked in that. "Don't know what's different in this sauce but it's really yummy". "Extra effort" is the official line, a ridiculous amount of garlic and secret carrots being the actual answer.
Tonight's is chicken and pork rosemary casserole with mashed potatoes and carrots.
I'm having some of last night's soup which is delicious.
-
Husband had beef strips with onions, reheated potatoes and carrots. In steak seasoning.
last of the soup for me. Pity, it was nice and on my to make again list.
Are we the only people eating?
-
Homemade chicken and mushroom pie with steamed red cabbage, straight from the plot.
-
We had a bit of a re-run of Sunday night.
I reheated leftover sliced pork in the oven with gravy. We had plot spuds, beetroot, spaghetti squash and beans with it. The spuds and squash were from the shed and the beans and beetroot from the freezer.
-
Last night was drumsticks with a fakeaway curry sauce over vegetable rice.
Tonight I made a huge batch of chilli. It was con carne but only 150g in a 6 portion batch, with HG beans, toms, peppers, onions, garlic and oregano. Delish served on a jacket spud (from the supermarket - mine were rubbish this year :()
-
Last night was meat and potato pie with Touchon carrots and the last picking of French beans. Absolutely delicious. There was about half a portion left over which made breakfast for me after two minutes in the radar oven.
Tonight was pasta in cheese sauce with bacon. No courgettes though, phew!
Tomorrow will be whatever Val decides!
-
Tonight is sausages and boiled eggs. It's what they wanted.
Pancakes for afterwards.
-
Tonight is spicy breadcrumbed chicken thighs, oven chips and a bowl of chopped salad.
-
Nipper's choice tonight so it's pizza all round. Might bung a few chips on as well...
-
Chinese chicken curry - one of my top 10! :D :D
-
Fish pie and plot greens
-
Cuban beef & pasta, plot carrots. Broccoli & cauliflower
-
Stewed beef with mashed potatoes, maybe chips if my headache sods off leaving me capable. Banana bread, apple scones and maybe pumpkin pie.
Beef is in the slow cooker, banana bread and apple scones are made. Pumpkin pie will happen when pumpkin #2 is carved.
-
Hm pizza, potato wedges with plot pink fir apple, salad with plot lettuce & some of the last tomatoes
-
I think Val's being very kind to me whilst I'm suffering with this back strain. Tonight another treat from my top 10 faves. Liver & Onions in a thick gravy with mashed potatoes and green beans. Double plus good!
Tomorrow is stuffed chicken breast wrapped in bacon. Probably boiled potatoes, sweetcorn and peas. :)
-
I've got a few late shifts in a row, but planned ahead yesterday and made red cabbage slaw and a cucumber, tomato and mint salad and stashed them in the fridge.
I had both with veggie fingers from work (think fish fingers, but with potato and veg inside) and warmed up pitta bread. I'm getting quietly hooked on these  Yes you guessed it - veggie fingers stuffed in pitta with salad or slaw heaped in on top. Trashy but good and I feel a re-run coming on later on today :D
OH has a beef and pumpkin stew to warm up and some wholemeal rolls to dunk in it :)
-
Chunky veg and lentil stew for me, and the sesame seed bread to go with it, is rising now. It'll will go in when the almond birthday cake I'm baking for a friend, comes out :)
Meanwhile the kitchen is a lovely and warm place to be ;)
-
I had cabbage, onions and leftover veg with a bit of cheese grated on it.
This lot had "pineapple chicken". Chicken with onions and pineapple in a chicken soup. Served with Rice, green beans, carrots and rice.
-
Sausage, egg and chips :D
Dessert is a bottle of Old Crafty Hen followed by copious amounts of red wine, happy days!
-
This lot had a larger lunch today. Chinese pineapple chicken with broccoli and noodles. I thinly chopped the stalk to replicate water chestnuts.
Tonight will be ciabatta based margherita pizza. Home made sauce. I'm hoping it won't end up in small children's requiring baths. Husband will have a stout or some sort of dark coloured beer with it.
-
Tonight was Chinese chicken (Husband), pork chop (children) with mashed potatoes, sweetcorn and broad beans.
I had sweetcorn with "British Greens" a pointy not quite a cabbagy thing with onions and a small grating of cheese. Husband got some with smoked bacon in it. got 2x Cabbagy things for 10p. One was enough for 2 adults if you had stuff such as a potato and 3 small onions with it.
-
*Sigh* Look what happens when I take a few weeks off. You're all at your posh nosh again, not a nuked jacket spud or beans on toast to be seen. ::) Leaving only John to carry the flag with liver and onions, but green beans, really ?! everyone knows liver and onions must be accompanied by cabbage or at the very least sprouts.
Tonight I'll be having egg fried rice. I may even put a few mushrooms in it, assuming they're not slimy or growing their own replacements :nowink:
Edit.. quick check - nope they're most definitely past their best.
-
I have a late shift tonight, so I'm sure I can fly the flag for not-posh nosh later
Last night was pie (bought) with spuds and cabbage from the plot, followed by crumble with plot fruit (gooseberries and rasps), but there was a malfunction in the custard department i.e. OH had snaffled it and eaten it sneakily ::) We had ice-cream instead ::)
-
I'm having lamb koftas with rice and the last of yesterday's roast squash.
-
Tooth treatments at the school so nothing hard today.
Spaghetti and pork chops in ragu.
I'll make extra ragu so I can pick up a crusty bread and make pizza tomorrow.
-
Baked trout with Boulanger potatoes, peas cauliflower carrots broccoli.
-
I put a really nice lump of Ermintrude in the slowcooker yesterday. I plan on cutting a <non-binary gender defined> sized slab and covering it with spoon standing onion gravy. If there's room on the plate I may add mash and some mixed veg. :tongue2:
-

So you're not going vegan? :D :D :D
We had beef stew / lobby which was slow cooked delicious and it will be same again tonight! There's not actually a large amount of beef in it, Val's added beans (black eyed peas) and mushrooms as well as onions, carrots and spuds. All the taste and texture, just the same.
-
This lot are having pizza bloomer. Cut the bottom off a bloomer, home made pizza sauce, mozzarella over the top, grilled to melt the cheese. Husband may have mushrooms and smoked bacon with his. Top of the bloomer will be eaten tomorrow. I was thinking of making Boston baked beans.
-
... I was thinking of making Boston baked beans.
Now there's posh! :D
-
I did make the Lamb Stew !!!! I put in carrot, celery, leek, garlic, cut up small potatoes, pearl barley, lots of stock, rosemary, oregano, lots of black pepper, and then thickened it and cooked it for 3 and half hours. it was worth the effort, it was lovely, and tomorrow I shall bag the remainder and probably get three meals out of it.
A "nuked" jacket potato tomorrow with cheese and fresh cooked broccoli. Mrs B
-
Unplanned visit by sprog's friends led to chaos and pandemonium. The good lady her indoors and I decided to have another round of sausage egg and chips for the 2nd time in a week...
-
Two fireworks party fodder here, hot dogs (with hm rolls) jacket potatoes, cheese & beans & to follow unconventional watermelon just because we had it & the little ones love it
-
I got a request for to use up the last of the koftas and we both had onions, cabbage, peas with sweetcorn with a little cheese. Lucky me, I was at Asda late yesterday and got two more "Spring greens" cabbage type things for 10p for the pair.
I'll have to make Boston baked beans for us tomorrow, hurrah for pressure cookers. 40 minutes excluding cooking out the onions for it to be done. Chicken with rice noodles for the kids.
I really fancy carrot cake.
-
I've has a HM beef pasty from the freezer with steam-bag mixed veg:)
-
The other half of the Cuban beef ftf, rice, purple & white sprouting broccoli fresh from the plot😱 I thought It was for the spring ???
-
I really fancy carrot cake.
I always fancy carrot cake :tongue2: especially if someone else has made it.
Back late last night with a serious case of the cba's. Finding nothing larger than a hens egg in the spud bag to nuke I resorted to a hot beef and mustard sandwich.
Last of the beef tonight, mash, mixed veg and spoon standing might do some yellow frizbees if there's enough milk.
-
Some more of the lamb stew. The rest is now frozen. Mrs B
-
Last night was sausage and mash with plot veg and spoon standing.
I'm working late, so OH has pasta for tea tonight. I'll see just how late it is when I get back and decide from there :)
-
Just picked up a pack of reduced sea bass fillets, so that's tonight and tomorrow sorted :)
Cole slaw, peas and wedges with it, I think :)
-
Just picked up a pack of reduced sea bass fillets
Oooh nice - lucky find :D
Chicken salad sandwiches when I got in yesterday. Oven has decided to pack in and that is our grill as well, so plans of soup and toast went quickly out of the window ::) AO coming to the rescue tomorrow
I've made some spicy beans for tonight. Oh can have his at teatime and I'll get some later. Homegrown borlotti beans and tomato sauce from the freezer, a goodly dollop of chilli paste and a couple of leftover sausages, de-skined, broken into bits and fried until brown to start it all off. Also salvaged rolls from the freezer to mop it up :D
-
Too sore to bake Boston baked beans yesterday :(.
Children had slow cooked chop suey with noodles, Husband had beans (I got as far as cooking them) with onions, carrots and a pork chop in cajun seasoning. He liked it.
I had a lie down.
Today is 50p lamb joint with home made chips and honey mustard parsnips. Followed by apple tart/pie.
I'm having some of the 6 litres of super garlicy veg soup that I made at lunch time. Has enough garlic to qualify as an ingredient, onions, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes and red lentils.
I've been told my breath is blinding everyone it's that garlicy.
-
every other day is a jacket potato, coleslaw and cheese, rocket, basil and tomato salad.
Weavinggryphon, why are you sore, and needed a lie down, better now I hope.
-
Last night was a diced pork and beans in tomato sauce, slow-cooked casserole with rice. Our verdict was OK but not a top ten contender. Still, the pork was a last day offer reduced to 69p so probably a decent meal for a pound apiece all in!
Tonight is oven-cooked braising steak with chips and peas. Bound to be a top ten meal (chips get 5 points with me!)
-
Freezer surprise.
I think it's some sort of stew,it could be lamb, chicken or beef, or it could be pork I diced and froze in its own fat to make a pork pie .... who knows :D :nowink: It's going with mash and cabbage whatever it turns out to be.
-
Beef chilli wraps, extra hot sauce for me.
-
Weavinggryphon, why are you sore, and needed a lie down, better now I hope.
I got attacked at work and am waiting for an operation. :(
Tonight their having chicken, mashed potatoes and apple tart to finish off with.
-
Weavinggryphon, why are you sore, and needed a lie down, better now I hope.
I got attacked at work and am waiting for an operation.
Oh no, what a terrible thing to happen, take care, regards, Mrs Bouquet
-
I got attacked at work and am waiting for an operation. :(
That's awful! Hope all goes well for you and terribly for your attacker.
-
We had stir fry noodles and veg yesterday with a quick braised dish of chicken and mushrooms in a soy based sauce.
Tonight is roast dinner, plus the usual plot spuds, plot veg and spoon standing :)
-
I got attacked at work and am waiting for an operation. :(
That's awful! Hope all goes well for you and terribly for your attacker.
Erm, it wasn't really the attacker's fault, nasty form of dementia that disabled the ability to understand society's rules or grade their response accordingly. They over reacted to me and didn't actually understand what was going on. :(
Last night for tea was chicken in gravy with mashed potatoes and sprouts.
Tonight is more of the chicken. Probably with potatoes since it's so cold. Properly warming and all that.
-
Erm, it wasn't really the attacker's fault, nasty form of dementia that disabled the ability to understand society's rules or grade their response accordingly. They over reacted to me and didn't actually understand what was going on. :(
Now I feel bad for cursing them! :( - hope you recover soon but, as you say, can't blame them. It's an awful disease, truly awful.
-

Not to worry, it wasn't a very likely scenario. Thug attack is typical and the natural thing to think of.
Last night my lot had chips, chicken and bacon pie both home made with broccoli and apple tart (home made) for after.
Tonight is the last of the pie with mashed potato. Not much pie so I'll make more filling and put it on the side or take toe top off, put the filling on and put the lid back on.
-
Yesterday was pork ribs with wedges and steam bag mixed veg. Today chicken drumsticks have been defrosted, and dried pulses soaked, for a slow-cooker stew.. Just the fresh veg to be diced, sliced and added later :)
-
Invited to Daughter last night for Roasted Belly pork, roast potatoes, mashed swede, carrot, and broccoli. It was very tasty, but knowing it might be a smelly cook (and I cannot bear clothes that smell of cooking,) I removed all of my jackets except my T.shirt, into her guest room. Guess what, today they are all on the line ! Back to a jacket and coleslaw etc tonight. Pong free at least :D Mrs B

Last night was still pie but Eldest requested rice and sweetcorn, those who asks gets (as opposed to those who say yea that sounds fine). They also asked for rice and lots of sauce tonight so it's chicken and pineapple with rice. Not sure if I'll leave it traditional (onions and tin of soup) or Ainsley Harriot, with garlic and ginger.
I love it when it's not left to me to decide what someone else eats.
I'm having soup.
-

I'm having soup.
I get offered a choice and then have to guess the correct answer :(
-
Leftovers, lamb stew ftf, & a variety of leftover cooked veg from the fridge- mash, roasties, sprouts, carrots cauliflower broccoli peas . Herby dumplings made fresh for the top of the stew.
-
Southern fried chicken burgers with hash browns, plot corn on the cob and a homemade chilli mayo.
-
Luxury fishcakes I was given at work because the company was not happy with them and pulled them off sale. I would guess too little fish, as they did seem a bit stingy in that department  Never mind, they were free and not bad for all that. At least they give all this kind of stuff away to staff, rather than shove it in the bin.
We had various plot veg with them, some from the freezer, some not. There was roasted beetroot, greens, cabbage and beans :)
-
Man flu - Nurse, 500ml of chicken soup - stat.
Tomorrow I will wage chemical warfare and make a chilli with the reapers.

I find adding some decent dark chocolate to the chilli really helps too!

That does sound particularly disgusting!
-
Tonight we had a variant on lobby & dumplings – a potteries version of Lobscouse I suppose. Diced stewing beef with onions, garlic, carrots, swede, leek, potatoes, sweet potatoes and suet dumplings. Rib sticking good. The sweet potatoes aren't traditional.
(Can only help you lose weight in your dreams!)
-
Herb omelette, with a salad (rocket, toms, sliced apple, celery) cooked green beans, coleslaw.
-

(Can only help you lose weight in your dreams!)
I think it is asking a bit much of them if you are pairing them with suet dumplings. Even tofu and brown rice would struggle with that mission and I know they are your favourites :nowink:
-
Boston baked beans. FINALLY.
Soup still for me.
-
I followed a recipe that added coffee - inedible :(

Sounds distinctly like something from over the pond, they do that sort of thing with gravy too. Coffee goes in a mug with the food not in it ::)
Well my nose is still running but at least it's doing it for a reason now :nowink: I mixed some reapers, naga vipers, datili , a few hot lemons and some green finger chilli's I found in the bottom of the freezer. Good burn profile from lip to ear but still a bit too flora for my liking. Assuming it doesn't melt the pot it's cooked in there's enough for a couple of days.
-
We had the remaining lobby without dumplings but extra boiled potatoes added. Rather nice as everything was ours apart from the beef. Actually quite small amount of meat - but plenty of meaty flavour.
-
A friend dropped by today after her holiday in Germany with a gift of some Bockwurst and Weissbier. Pasta plans went out the window and I used the penultimate plot red cabbage of the year to make a quick pickled cabbage with Bockwurst, mustard caraway mash potato and roasted apple slices.
-
Tonight is going to be a clearing out the fridge tea.
Eldest asked for chicken curry with rice so that'll be shared with Husband. Somehow I doubt they'll be happy with one chicken breast between them. But we've lots of (10p for a pack) mushrooms. I'll make stock with the carcass so I can pick the scrappy bits off once it's cooked and add them in too. Which will all bulk that up. If only they'd let me add lentils.
Youngest doesn't like curry so they'll get a taste of curry so they don't get used to the idea of saying no and never having it again. Youngest can have rice and Lincolnshire sausages (reduced to 30p for 454g) in ragu so I can smuggle some vegetables into the little sod. It sounds such an odd mix but youngest loves rice, ragu and sausages and it's their choice.
I'm making broccoli, carrot and celariac soup. Omn nom lucky me nom.
-
Last night was a chicken pot pie filling, but with a mash top, rather than pastry. I was using up frozen veg from the freezer, so with chicken and white sauce added, it made sense of bitty bits.
I've got a couple of late shifts now, so OH can choose from more chicken pie or pasta that is stashed in the fridge for him. I'm doing a decent lunch for me and probably toast later.
-
Home made beef casserole (bags of in freezer), potatoes, cauli, and carrots, oh yes, and a few left over green beans.
-
Beef bourguignon, crusty bread, surplus of red wine. The weather really is that bad.
-
Well first it was going to be Chicken hotpot, but the littlies don’t seem very keen on that sort of thing, so then I thought I’d do Mediterranean chicken with orzo but when I went to get out the cooked chicken I thought was in the freezer, we seem to have used it so it’s baked trout with Boulanger potatoes & veg again, we’ve got the option of freshly baked bread to go with it as hubby made 2 loaves this morning.
Certainly seem to be going through my freezers with alarming speed since son, partner & 2 children moved in with us!
-

Just tell him - "Son, there's the plot. All you grow, you may eat" :)
We're on breaded fish, chips and mushy peas, bread & butter, cup of tea. Haute cuisine eat your heart out!
-
Good idea John but he honestly hasn’t got time, a full time job & every weekend & most evenings up at the new house renovating it with hubby there each weekend & 3 or 4 days a week to speed them on their way 🙄😂😂
-
Leftover chilli again tonight, might have to put some rice with it today. I could be naughty and pour it over chips instead though couldn't I?
-
Yes, you could Lardman and very nice it is that way, as well
I had mince and squash leftover from Wednesday turned into a soupy thing by adding some HM passata to it, served with HM cheesy rolls :)
For tonight I'm defrosting haddock - think I'll make parsley sauce to go with peas, carrots and mash :)
-
"Tea Tonight" is actually going to be a "Posh Afternoon Tea". A lady in the village, who has a beautiful house, is holding the Tea for Children in Need. The tickets are £10, and I know her culinary skills are super, so off we shall go, and I shall let you know later just how "Posh" it is. :D Mrs B
-
Cajun dirty rice for me,(Pinch of Nom recipe) a sort of steak & kidney, potato pie with a puff pastry lid for hubby, toddlers & mum ate out with her dad & son is getting his own, so probably a takeaway or he was picking at the rest of mine (that I was hoping to have for lunch tomorrow!)
-
Chinese chicken curry with white rice. Home Bargains Chinese curry powder tastes just like the takeaway version. Incidentally, once had a Tesco Chinese curry, reduced bargain. It wasn't worth 29p - awful. Never again.
-
Garlic chicken with chips and parsnips with apple butter. Followed by a choice of pumpkin pie, apple and mince mini pies, mini mince pies and apple tart.
Today was a baking day, so all that was home made today and I need a lie down.
-
Chinese takeaway chicken omelette, sesame prawn toast, a glass of red and a bottle of scotch for pudding. I've worked hard this week ;)
-
Last of the chilli today :(
Freezer raised for something to make a pie from. mmmmmm pie. :tongue2:

Simple rump steak with chips, peas and garlic mushrooms. We've come to the opinion that the supermarkets are pumping up their beef with water now which all comes out on cooking.

They totally do.
I find the German pork really bad, it was an accidental purchase. We are all dedicated to Scottish or UK produce. But I put a powdered marinade on it overnight thinking this'll get it all nicely marinaded it lasted until I put it in the fat reducing grill. The water came streaming out and washed the marinade out and it wouldn't crisp out. I got questioned where the marinade went. When they were eaten the kids and Husband weren't keen "they taste of nothing".
Tonight is 40p super tasty special lasagne with home made pizza as a starter as it won't fill on it's own.
We've eaten all the pumpkin pie :( so Husband will have to make do with mini apple and mince pies. I'll have the last of the soup.
MODIFY, those who like kindle cook books, Hairy Bikers new book about one pot dinners is on the deal. 99p today. It's not on the daily deal page.
Link.

Liver and onions, cabbage and mash all covered in spoonstanding :tongue2:
We've come to the opinion that the supermarkets are pumping up their beef with water now which all comes out on cooking.
My local butcher has been getting worse in terms of quality of late, I wonder if it's higher up the supply chain? Do Ocado deliver round by you John? their butcher's counter stuff isn't bad - it is pricey though.
-
Bit off the Ocado track here :(
We avoid pork & pork products from abroad - mainly because of welfare standards.
I bought some sausages from a small, organic local farm supplier a while back. They were awful, like they were made from MRM. So I spoke to the farmer and gently told him what was wrong - to help him. His attitude was that he knew but used a local butcher. It's all good being organic and regenerative but if the end product is over-priced rubbish and the producer doesn't care about his customers as well as the environment ...
My daughter says Rosewood Farm (http://www.rosewood.farm) (mail order) supply a top quality product.
-
Thanks Mum for "Pinch of Nom". I read it several times, then I realised that I do something very similar with rice. I am always adding something to it. Got the taste buds going, so tonight, guess what, Rice. :) Mrs B
-
Sunday lunch was gammon coated with a honey/mustard glaze, roast potato wedges, peppers, onions and tomatoes. HM chocolate cake for 'afters'
More cake for tea :D
-
Posh sausages, roast potatoes, plot cabbage and asparagus.
-
Cheese, toast and toffee apple butter. Guess who dozed off while making said apple butter ::). It's nice. husband's talking about tomorrow having it.
So tomorrow is Lincolnshire sausages, mash with (toffee) apple butter in some gravy or straight from the jar. Oh and peas.
-
I soaked pulses overnight and. with lots of root veg, they are simmering away in the stock from yesterday's gammon. I'm trying to resist adding some dumplings :D
-
Paul wasn't feeling well last night so we didn't have anything, but tonight was the lamb chops, and roasted med type veg with new pots. Off to work tomorrow so it will be 'whatever' as I don't finish un til 6.
-
Chicken breast roasted,r.potatoes, stuffing, pineapple, peas, carrots, broccoli, sprouts, gravy and for the munchkins warmed up chocolate cake trimmings & icecream, then mummy thought that was a good idea & had some & then daddy joined in 😂
-
The good lady her indoors was out this evening, sprog wanted pasta so it was a mighty portion of liver and onions this evening with a veritable mountain of mash potato. Absolutely stuffed still 5 hours later.
-
Cold Frattata, (small slice left over from the night before). Half an olive roll with cheese and pickle, 2x hot cross buns. Tonight, Steak pie (very small) and fresh veg (no spuds!).
-
Last night was some peppered grill steak thingies (more work freebies), mashed plot potato and turnip-swede and plot cabbage, plus spoon standing.
Tonight is spag bol - hm tomato sauce from the freezer :)
-
I'm having the last of Sunday's honey/mustard gammon with a jacket spud , tomatoes and HM coleslaw.
-
I'll be nuking a spud. ::)
-
Marmalade glazed ham, home cooked, with jacket potatoes, salad,b.beans & hm coleslaw.
-
Had one of the few things I'm willing to repeat, onions and cabbage. Bacon for Husband and some chestnut mushrooms.
Kids have an invite over to Husband's parent's for tea.
Banana bread to follow as I made 8 loaves, many (4) were given away to pensioners I know who live on micro meals and 3 to the In Laws.
-
The Plot 1 household has been afflicted with the flu, all non-emergency functions have ceased. Chinese takeaway delivered to relieve the symptoms of all concerned.
-
We were given fish cakes so fish cakes, one with smoked cheddar, the other with manchego and chorizo, peas, mashed potatoes and super funcy macaroni cheese (that second micro meal we got for 40p).
Spell check wants me to say henchmen instead of manchego and horizon instead of chorizo.
-
Lamb Keema with peas and rice plus a bowl of salad bits :)
-
Illness reigns supreme still, lazy pizza option taken. Longing for something home cooked :(
-
Toad in the hole, thick onion gravy, mash, peas, carrots, cauliflower, sprouts
-
In service day, pancakes with butter or home made jam for lunch. Husband had fried mushrooms and toast.
Tea is lamb with mashed potatoes and broccoli with pumpkin pie for afterwards.
-
Beef hot pot for hubby & I & the littlest munchkin, bigger munchkin is out for dessert after a trip to the theatre, son will get something? later probably a takeaway🙄
-
Homemade cottage pie, finally an escape from takeaway food.
-
Couldn't think of (or be bothered to do) anything exciting with the whole chicken I bought yesterday so I've dropped it in the slowcooker for a roast chicken dinner.
-
For tea - Basa fillet in lemon/pepper breadcrumbs with peas and wedges. I think there's a little coleslaw to use up as well.
-
For tea - Basa fillet in lemon/pepper breadcrumbs with peas and wedges.
I don't know how you do it but I almost always fancy your dinner.
This lot are having left over lamb cooked with a little ginger in apple butter with mashed potatoes and French beans.
-
Roasted squash filled with rice, veg and cheese stuffing, plus green veg on the side :)
-
Roasted squash filled with rice, veg and cheese stuffing, plus green veg on the side :)
Mmm, tasty - I think I'll copy that today, I haven't taken anything out of the freezer yet, so it makes sense :D
-
Chicken curry and rice tonight. I had no time for a roast dinner to cook, so it got thrown together very quickly with a bought sauce. It was nice anyway :)
-
The household lurgy has worsened and the cupboards are bare so we ordered in pizza. Once we've recovered I doubt we'll have takeaway for months...
-
Roast chicken & potatoes with hg r.parsnips, swede & carrot mash +potato mash, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, sprouts. Yorkshire puds, gravy & very nice it was too, compliments all round & enough left for tomorrow for the lodgers as we are escaping for 3 nights.
-
Beef stir fry with noodles. Carrots, French beans broccoli and mushrooms were the veg. Guess who has buried most of the frozen veg and is stuck with French beans or sprouts until she remembers where the peas, sweetcorn are and can get down to the cauliflower.
Followed by mini apple butter pielets or a slice of a pumpkin pie or apple tart which are currently cooking.
Taking the number of future pumpkin pies in jam jars to 25.5.
-
The household lurgy has worsened and the cupboards are bare..
This years flu is a really stinker, probably the worst I can remember. I'm still suffering and it's been 3 weeks, never mind the 3 days coming, 3 days here and 3 days going nonsense. Hunker down and remember to feed a cold ;)
You could feed it some of the chicken I did yesterday which I'm going to have to have again today. Can't say I'm really a fan of roast chicken, it's just boring.
-

Online order? Make some soup? Or get a chicken to put in the slow cooker like LardMan?
Me being me after getting better from the last time both adults weren't great I made up a pile of "ming dinners". For when you are full of the ming. It's just a batch made meal, I joint a chicken or portion up whatever I've got in, add cooked onion, sauce/herbs/spices and freeze in portion sizes. So all that needs done is them taken out of the freezer, defrost in the slow cooker bowl and then put on to cook at the correct time.
I do it if I see things cheap on the yellow label and I have freezer space. A chicken takes up less space when jointed in sauce in a carry out style tub than when whole. it's also easier to fit in. Same if I make too much of something or if it's a recipe that doesn't divide down well-like pulled pork. Sometimes I cook loads of onions and freeze that in portions too so a meal is faster made.
Based on seeing this website
https://whoneedsacape.com/2012/11/crockpot-freezer-cooking/
Modify to add, I used her idea and tips, but not necessarily her recipes. I make my own sauces from scratch and pre cook onions before putting into the freezer.
Tonight this lot are having "mince and tatties" or mince in gravy with potatoes for those that don't speak Doric. Or annoying foreigners as the Husband calls me. Why do I cook for him? ???
-
Woo, spot the thread killer. Sorry :(
My lot had sausages or sea bass for tea in parsley sauce with pasta, mushrooms, carrots and peas.
-
It's difficult to get excited about yet more chicken.
-
It's difficult to get excited about yet more chicken.
Curry it - spices are nearly as good as cheese for making everything better :D
Long shift yesterday lunking stock round. Was a tad weary when I got in, so we had pie and chips bought from work on the way out and plot veg from the freezer that was no more work than tip it into boiling water and wait a bit
-
Something in a bag from freezer, looks like it is probably a beef casserole, probably in beer. The label has smudged and all I can read is 2018 ! Non-peel potatoes, green beans, fresh carrots.
-
Health back to around 90%, cupboards stocked, appetite restored :)
Creamy garlic butter chicken tonight with pasta for the wife and sprog, french fries for me.
-
Pork medallions here with plot spud mash and beans in tomato sauce. Right old posh beans though ;) They were homegrown beans and in homemade tomato sauce, made with plot tomatoes :D
-
I had a lamb casserole with mashed swede and cabbage, tonight there are casserole leftovers with mash and peas
-
I had a lamb casserole
That sounds lovely, what sort of lamb did you use ?
Tonight I have a chicken breast stuffed with a black peppercorn sauce, mini potatoes, carrots, and a rocket and tomato side salad. Mrs B
-
Garlic and herb chicken with rubbish chips and honey mustard parsnips. I think the oven is knackered.
-
Better than my house - here the chef is knackered :D
-
My first stab at gumbo, with spicy wedges, HG corn on the cob, lashes of hot sauce and coleslaw.
Total winner :D
-
Left over chicken in white sauce with carrots and whatever youngest asks for. Probably pasta.
-
I had a lamb casserole
That sounds lovely, what sort of lamb did you use?
Shanks, on offer in the butcher's when I ordered my Christmas pork :)
Last night was egg and beans on toast, tonight it's spicy meatballs, cooked in a tomato sauce over penne pasta, with a bowl of salad leaves on the side :)
-
Leftover shepherds pie for the munchkins & adults later meal of sirloin steaks, oven chips, salad & coleslaw & for some chocolate eclairs.
-
Last night was spaghetti alla vongola.
Today OH has man-flu and we all know what that is like girls ;) Anyway, he is curled up on the sofa with the real Scottish water of life - Irn Bru and has requested the comfort food of his forefathers - mince and tatties. No-one does grumpy like a Scotsman, scowls and Rab C Nesbitt outbursts optional
-

Oh Dear poor him, or do I mean you ::) ::) Mrs B

Tonight the request was for steak pie for Husband and fish fingers and toast for Youngest. Classy dining tonight.
-
Steak, giant mushrooms topped with cheese and baked, served with a huge mound of fortifying chips :)
-

Do you always do different meals for folks? Here they have to have the same apart from I try on a Saturday night for the adults to eat later whilst my son & family are staying, I just couldn’t do with the hassle of cooking different meals for different folks 😂
-
Here it was creamy garlic chicken with boiled rice, peas, carrots, broccoli, munchkins had the leftover chocolate eclair from last night between them...they rather liked it, don’t think they’d had 1 before 😂
-
Slow cooker piggy. Trashco "butchers counter" leg and it's terrible. No flavour, all preserve and to top it off more chewy than shoe leather. I've had to shred it to make it edible.
Not even 9am and I'm grumpy already. :nowink:
-
Slow cooker sweet and sour chicken for this lot. I fancy porridge with yoghurt.
-
I've made a Moussaka using Tromba squash instead of aubergine, cooking now and smelling lovely :)
-
Spicy pork chops, cheesey mash and roasted caraway apples :)
-
Another stoopidly late one yesterday - nearly 1am, which is not much fun when that is your second job and your main one starts the next morning ::)
Anyway enough grumbling. The bonus was being treated to a fish supper from the chippy tonight. This translates as me looking lacklustre about cooking tea and OH thinking 'oh no, take action now to secure proper nourishment'
He can cook and does a mean breakfast, but his dinners are bit much for me sometimes. We had one day a week when he cooked for a while, but after 6 weeks of mac and cheese every time, I called a halt ::)
-
The in Laws fed the kids so husband had gammon slice, cabbage, sprouts, cauliflower and carrots.
I had onions, cabbage and carrots. Omn nom nom nom.
-
Campfire stew from Pinch of Nom book, very well received all round, piece of gammon cooked with tins of b.beans, tomatoes, red kidney beans,& onions, carrots, celery & spices.
-
... after 6 weeks of mac and cheese
That's tomorrow sorted then  I've some bits of chorizo in the freezer might as well lob those into it too.
-
Pizza tonight with the first sampling of my mango and trinidad scorpion chilli hot sauce.
Going to be a bit Johnny Cash tomorrow I suspect
-
... after 6 weeks of mac and cheese

I just knew you would side with him on that :tongue2:
Another late one, so I was eating reheated mince and tatties at nearly 1am. Not the greatest plan but I needed to eat something. It probably didn't help that I added hm piccalilli to the mix. Sounds rank, but was actually pretty good 8)
One more shift tonight then the weekend off :D I don't know what I am having yet on Saturday, but it is going to be a good 'un ;)
-
I'm cooking a small salmon fillet plus stirfry veg and rice - with lots of sweet chilli sauce :D
-
Village Gardening Club Christmas Dinner tonight, and it is always superb :) Mrs B
-
Chippy dinner tonight!
-
Chicken and mashed potatoes with carrots.
Tomorrow is haddock with prawns in a creamy sauce and pasta. maybe with leeks and, sweetcorn. If I can find the packet in the freezer.
-
After last nights blow out:- Main course, Desserts, Cheese and Biscuits, Fresh Fruit, and a Box of Mint Chocs for each table with the coffee. £18.50/head Amazing. Tonight is a Tuna Pasta Melt and green beans, and very little else. I must be good, I must be good. Mrs B
-
I raided the freezer, trying to make room for holiday food, found half a chicken and mushroom pie - that'll do for today and tomorrow, with mash, carrots and plot cabbage.
-
I must be good, I must be good. Mrs B
Well so much for that, just been to a local choir concert - two mince pies and a cuppa, why couldn't I have just had one. Mrs B
-
BBQ rack of ribs, homegrown corn on the cob from the freezer and a mountain of hash browns :)
-
Toad in the hole with spoon standing. There was veg perched on the side of the plate, but I have to say it was a token gesture
I did have salad for lunch honest
I must be good, I must be good. Mrs B

There is always tomorrow Mrs B ;) Being good every day is no fun :)
-
Tonight this lot are having chicken, wrapped in bacon with bits of pork stuffing in a mushroom sauce. Vegetables are potatoes with carrots.
Tomorrow and Tuesday will be chicken and bacon pasta bake and bbq chicken with noodles. The vote hasn't settled what to have what day.
-
Coconut chicken curry with rice and a tomato, red onion, cucumber and mint salad.
-
Steak and kidney pie, mash or chips depending on time. Shop bought though  Little treat as I've been under the weather again.
-
Steak pie for me as well (also shop bought :D) with beans and carrots.
-
Still with the aim of making more room in the freezer, I'm defrosting a tray of pasta bake, broccoli and green beans to go with it :)
-
My steak pie was horrid, threw most of it away. Hope Lardy's was better than mine.
Tonight might be Cauliflower and Brocolli with grated cheese over, or a Tuna and pasta salad.
-
That chicken and pasta bake is happening for the kids, Husband is having sausages, cauliflower and sprouts.
I may have soup.
-
Cullen Skink. Well, ish, it'll have the smoked haddock but it'll have scrappy bits of salmon and mussels so it maybe more of a chowder?
I picked up two whole salmon down from £16.50 - £5.50 each so I've filleted them both, cut into portions (3.5kg meat), stock is on the go from the bones and I smell attractive to cats. First time I've filleted a fish and the second was definitely better than the first. But the odd scrappy bits are going into our tea tonight, the rest have been portioned up and I'm away to put them into the freezer bar one for tomorrow's tea. Waste is out as well.
-
My steak pie was horrid, threw most of it away.
I have a terrible cough at the moment (caught from OH's man flu) and have been not very interested in food. I cooked pie, wedges and veg last night and then didn't want the pie, so OH ate both.
There is cauliflower and broccoli in my fridge, so I am pinching your idea and doing mixed floret cheese for tea. That way if I have no appetite again, it can go into a dish for OH to reheat later in the week when I am working and he is home alone :)
-
It is the cauli and broccoli florets along with fine beans. All cooked in the same saucepan, tipped into a lightly buttered oven proof dish and sprinkled with grated cheese, black pepper and chilli flakes. I don't make a sauce, because I don't like them ! Oh, I have just thought I may throw a few black olives in as well.
-
PON (Pinch of Nom) chicken satay went down very well here with rice, & for some peshwari naans & poppodums
-
My steak pie was horrid, threw most of it away. Hope Lardy's was better than mine.
You'd have heard me moaning about it by now if it wasn't  it was actually one of these Nice Pies (https://www.jonthorners.co.uk/the-kitchen/award-winning-pies) and Id give it 4/5, just make sure you're sitting down when you look at the price.
Serious case of the CBA's last night and didn't bother, I'm void of inspiration today but whatever it is there will be cabbage.
There's also mash and corned beef pie ;)
edited : Things make much more sense if you use the right words... :nowink:
-

-
This lot are having chicken, mashed potatoes and carrots with gravy.
Soup for me.
-
The wife breaks up from work this evening for the Christmas holidays so it's no doubt going to be a meal out tonight. The sprog will no doubt insist on a popular burger emporium, but the wife will have the casting vote.
-
Bolognese & fresh hm pasta here & even better I’ve not made it 😊
-
My horrible cough is finally on the wane. I've have been right off food as it made it all taste a bit funny and I felt lousy, but managed a decent meal tonight :)
Spicy lamb chops, herby rice and some fresh steamed greens and suddenly all is right with the world :)
-
I've got lamb chops for tomorrow ;)

Southern fried chicken, wedges and HG corn on the cob from the freezer.

The usual roast chicken dinner, but I was feeling a bit off all day and hadn't eaten much, so it tasted fantastic to me :D

The last of the basa fillets in lemon/pepper breadcrumbs with HM coleslaw.
-
I've got lamb chops for tomorrow ;)
Oooh, that's an idea. Thank you.
-
No idea, son was going out for after work festivities, his partner & older munchkin are out for tea with t’other grandad, hubby says he’ll have the leftover hotpot that’s lurking in the fridge, little munchkin is still unwell & didn’t want the beans on toast mummy did him before they left. So that just leaves me & I don’t know, probably pasta with veg or a speedy curry with rice
-
Jacket potato with light coleslaw, rocket and tomato salad.
-
I'm baking bread today, so will make a pizza base to be anointed with fridge gravel this evening
-
It has been a long week and I'm fed up, so I have proposed indian takeaway tonight :D
OH nearly bit my hand off. He has been a latch key kid for most of the week, with tea left in the fridge for him to heat up. He's done a lot better than me, but still feels deprived

Burned beef ends in a bourbon sauce, chilli cheese mash and HG corn on the cob.

That sounds yummy P1P, I've got pasta with gammon bits & peas in it, found in the depths of the freezer. I'll grate lots of cheese over it - that'll improve it no end :D
-
We're going down the curry route as well with a chicken biryani which Paul made earlier. It's made the whole house smell though.
-
Chicken breast in spicy breadcrumbs with mash, peas and carrots.
-
I'm still in lazy mode, so we had lamb shanks in gravy (the boil in the bag ones), pre-made bought mash and I managed to stir myself and cook some veg to go with it all
It was pretty good though :)
-
Bacon, scrambled eggs, chips, beans and mushrooms :D

Bacon, scrambled eggs, chips, beans and mushrooms :D
Everyone here voted that sounds amazing.
I'm having veg soup, their having middle eastern lamb meatballs and rice. That's if I don't do something terrible to myself as I'm also going to use the Ballymahoe cookbook I got reduced to bone a leg of lamb for the 25th.

Did anyone manage any tea yesterday?
We had beef for dinner with a ton of plot veg, roasted plot spuds, yorkshire puds and some proper hm gravy. We never even got as far as pudding and tea was various snacky bits like crisps, dips, peanuts and chocolate
-
We had trifle and mince pies at tea time, no room straight after dinner
Looks like I'll be eating gammon for the rest of the year then ::)

::)
At least it is a useful leftover that you can add into stuff like pasta and rice dishes ... once you get fed up of sliced gammon for tea
-
This lot have left over pork for 2 days, finish it tomorrow. Husband had the last of the duck tonight. I had soup.
-
Yesterday was left over bubble and squeak and duck meat. Today Omlette with some of the leftover gammon with chips.
-
I've been at work the last couple of days, so my meal has been based on leftover cheese each night.
Cheese, salad and crackers on Boxing Day and cheese on toast with the rest of the salad yesterday. No bad dreams were had, despite late night cheese munching, but tonight will be a proper meal and at a decent time :)
-
We've got homemade Chilli and pila rice with 1/2 a baguette each and possible a bit of left over Trifle, for Christmas day we had curry which was lovely.
So what's everyone having for New Year ?? :D
-
Homemade bolognaise tonight, back to normal proper food!
-
Well I’ve been told they’ve had enough turkey & ham so I had a rummage & found a bolognese in the freezer so we’ll have that with some Christmas pasta shapes for me & the munchkins, hubby’s having mash with us & son & partner will either partake or have a takeaway😱 which is an anathema for me when there’s good home cooked food about. I think the trifle is past it but there’s still the orange Christmas pud to have a go at unless I freeze it this afternoon.
-
I've had stew on a slow blip all afternoon and the house smells lovely. I used beef dripping from the Christmas roast to start the veg, which were plot onion, garlic and various root veg. Add some home dried herbs - lovage, savoury and thyme, plus some stock and a bag of diced beef from the freezer and off we went :)
I've put some away in the fridge for another night and have a pan full ready to re-heat and add some dumplings into. OH is pacing the kitchen already
So what's everyone having for New Year ?? :D
Not sure yet. It is going to be a New Years Eve dinner, rather than the day itself, so a roast may not be do-able. Curry sounds like a likely option :)
-
So what's everyone having for New Year ?? :D
Probably a filthy great takeaway and my approximate bodyweight in alcohol.
After New Year's I'll be cutting back on everything so might as well enjoy a last big pigout :D
-
We had a prawn and salmon pilaf tonight, went down well with a glass of white :)
-
Salmon with chilli, ginger & orange with stir fried vegetables & noodles & vegetable rice for hubby who won’t eat noodles.
-
we had pork chops roast potatoes and home grown runner beans, delightful :)
-
So what's everyone having for New Year ?? :D
We're cooking it and feeding 4 adults, 2 children and me.
Beef, leg of lamb and a chicken.
Veg is potatoes, mashed, boiled, roasted and baked, carrots and parsnips, both honey mustard roasted, cauliflower for someone boycotting the carbs and something else. Maybe peas. Mince pies, ginger biscuits, lebkucken, fruit cake, pumpkin pie (by request) and yule log for afterwards. Yule log won't be home made.
Trying to decide what I'm doing with what meat. I was thinking a herb mustard honey rosemary crust on the lamb. Onion, garlic and thyme on the beef, mixed herbs, bay and butter on the chicken. Basic meat + green stuff and put in the slow cooker. That reminds me I have to take lower leg bone (humerus) so it fits in the slow cooker. Fun times.
-
We are having a roast pork dinner tonight after all. I have to work tomorrow and it is a relatively early start, given that it is New Years Day. Not amused with our current manager, who likes to play musical rotas at the last minute >:(
Anyway, no wild night on the cards here, so roast pork, roast spuds, veg and spoon standing and I think there are a couple of giant yorkshires left in the freezer :)
-
Had the takeaway last night, so I'm whipping up a spicy tomato pasta dish with some posh sausages chopped into it.
I got a Rick Stein cookbook from Santa and I'm looking forward to whipping some of his dishes up over the coming months :)
-
Steak & kidney for us two, munchkins had beans & toast & parents are out to her brothers to dog sit their own dog & are cooking for themselves.
-
The last of the turkey for us in a curry tonight. Neither of us has been feeling too good over the last few days so we spent some of today sorting out what's in the fridge that can be frozen and what must be eaten soon, hence prawn salad for dinner tomorrow instead of the planned roast.
-
They had a Lasagna reduced in the co op, but despite having a fridge and freezer full of stuff, the CBA fairy made me buy it ::)
So a lazy meal for me with a load of salad to make it seem a healthier option
-
I followed Mum's idea and used the tins and fresh veg etc. There is enough for tomorrow with rice or pasta.
Thanks Mum :)
