Overwintering onions and garlic

Same problem here. I'm planning to put my garlic in this week, but November will be OK. It just needs some cold weather to cause it to divide up into cloves.

Also will I need to dig the grand over where I’m going to put the garlic or can I make a trench with my mentis that way Thanks

I just used a dibber made from an old fork handle. Garlic seems to be pretty tough in my experience, although the onions seem a bit more delicate and I usually lose a few over winter.
