Tiny plum tomatoes - can you name one?
« on: November 30, 2010, 11:40 »
Hi - I recently had some plum tomatoes from a supermarket which were about the size of cherry toms but had the distinct savoury flavour of plum tomatoes.

Does anyone know of a variety I could grow in a cold greenhouse next year?

Doh - I've eaten them!

I'll look out for some more - would I take them out of a fresh fruit or wait for the fruit to dry up?

Put it on a saucer in the kitchen to fully ripen.  When it starts to go soft remove the seeds and dry them off.

Try 'Saucey'

I can buy "baby" Plum tomatoes in my T*sco sometimes, they have way more flavour than  the cherry toms you get in the shops.

I grew one called Ildi this year.  They weren't tiny but they were plum shaped yellow fruit and they were fabulous.  Grew them in the greenhouse and got loads of fruit from them.  I am growing them again next year.

There are no guarantees as a stray bee could get in from a greenhouse growing a different variety. It has always worked well for me so well worth a try with a couple of plants.

Not sure if this one a plum tomato. ??? ???

If you want small tomato's check currant goldrush and currant sweet pea. 5-7mm across, great fun.
