A few PSB questions
« on: March 09, 2012, 10:46 »
Morning all,

One of my PSB plants is now starting to produce a large central thingy (technical term), it's possibly 4-5cm across. Should I pick it now or wait a bit?

Can you see the purple curd?

If not you can wait a bit, if you can, have it away before it "blows".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Curd, that's the word I was looking for... :D Yes it is visible now. Should i have cut it as soon as it appeared? It hasn't started to blow or anything yet, but just wanted to make sure it's not too small to cut. As mentioned it's about 4-5cm across at the moment.

After you have cut it the plants should produce lots of side shoots.

Do take the whole sprout (curd AND leaf) using a sharp knife. You'll be amazed how quickly side sprouts form in the joins with the main leaves further down the stem and you can just keep on cutting.

Thanks for the replies. I now have the middle curd of that plant in the fridge and will eat it today, and am looking forward to getting enough for a decent sized portion soon from the others  :D

Anyone else grow white sprouters? I had a good picking of purple and white yesterday - the whites are just like mini cauliflowers!
