so far I have 1 pumpkin on the plant about the size of a small football I have put straw underneath it (that was all I had handy as I didnt expect to see one yet as there was nothing there last week!!)  will this do or should it be a brick or tile etc as the BBC say !!?   :blink:

Just be careful that the straw doesn't get wet and start to rot or damage the plant

I always put hardboard or any flat wood under mine

I also use polystyrene so a the pumpkin gorws, it slides along the top of it.

I dont use anything until the fruit starts to ripen.
