Advice required re-tecumseh engine
« on: August 26, 2011, 16:24 »
Hi everyone, once again we need your help.

In 2007 we bought a Tecumseh Vantage Eco Tec 35 engine, with cold start primer (a red push bulb) for a rotovator.  We believe its a dual system carb as it has the large primer bulb on the side.
This year we have had a few problems with it so sent it for servicing.

The engineer found that the main fuel jet (which is blue plastic) was damaged, and lucky for us he had a old engine for spares with the same plastic fuel jet so he replaced it for us.
He also said that spares are difficult to get as this engine is no longer available. Heeelp

Is it possible to eventually replace this plastic fuel jet with a brass one, and if so where would we obtain the spares.  Would we be able to replace this carb with a different but compatable model.  Any ideas.
The only information we have on this engine apart from the above is the following numbers.

A label on the engines side:  1*97/68SN3-1A*  2002/88*  0282*00  made in Italy 05  244.
On the engine wings:  28220038.
On the carb:  28510045.
The only other numbers are as follows:  ELV133E1 and E-33102.
Will post some pics if I can.

Tecumseh are difficult to buy parts for. I think I would replace the engine for something that is current like a Briggs or a Honda. You ought to be able to punt around and get a Briggs replacement engine on the 'tintaweb for a pretty reasonable sum.
It'll save you heartache in the long run. :(

Tecumse closed a few years ago.

No spares available, less you find a shop with some saved/left in stock.
There is a ruhmour that there is a company in Germany that have stocked parts/spares from Tecumse when they closed.

Carburettors should be little or no problem. A B&S carbs should be possible to install (with some work). A good mechanic can do it for you, for a price... and it is here our recommendations of swapping that eninge for a B&S...

B&S made in USA are far better engines than Tecumse... B&S made in China is not nearly as good but are retailed at very pleasing prices (cheap!).
