its been three year since i washed my hair!
« on: April 17, 2012, 23:00 »
Decided to stop washing my hair after reading a article by someone who had tried it. If you can cope with about 3 or 4 weeks of it looking greasy and lank things only get better.

Now after 3 years its really soft and glossy, gets very little tangle, repels dirt though I wear hat wear doing dusty jobs. its so easy to brush and saved a fortune in hot water, time and shampoo.

Many years ago, well over 20,  I saw a tv programme with someone that did the same thing.  She said that it was awful at first and she smelled like a dead sheep for a year, then it got better.  You know what?  For the money it might save and the strange looks you might get, plus the difficulties your partner might have with the experiment I think I'll stick with Head and Shoulders.

It's an interesting experiment and not something many would undertake.  What made you try it? :)

When my son had shoulder length thick hair about ten years or more ago, he tried this (We did think it was sheer laziness on his behalf to be honest, although I am not suggesting tis is why Rachel has done this  )

He did rinse it in plain water from time to time to get dust off, but it did seem to work despite my misgivings.

After about three months, his hair looked much less dirty than it had, and his scalp stopped itching too.

However, the advent of a girlf friend who liked freshly shampood hair changed his mind  :nowink:

I too have read those articles but must admit was never tempted to try.

I certainly couldn't now as my hair colour requires freshly shampooed hair and washing out after 45 mins.

Well I think that would make me give up a lot sooner than three months and the thought of smelling unpleasant at all never mind for a year!

All the same, well done Rachel for trying and succeeding! :D

What did make you decide to try it Rachel? Just curious.
I know some people with 'dreadlocks' dont wash their hair but just wondered what triggerred the decision with you.
Did you have your hair cut during that time? Was it short or long and tied back/up?

I feel dirty after a few days of unwashed hair, so definitely not for me.

Historically, women who didn't wash their hair wore hats all the time to keep dust off - lace bonnet anyone?  ::)

I've read about several people who have done this and swear by it but it's not for me. What do you do if you get dirt in your hair? Or paint? I used to work at a hospital and with all the germs going around I would never have felt clean without a good shower and hair wash the minute I got home. But if it works for you then great. :)

Went through a divorce lost my business started to look a my life inside out.
I went through a really lean time with money and looked at every thing in my life in minute detail.

Lists, did i need to do it did i want to do it, was it habbit, cus everyone else did, etc
What was important to me
Priorities
Morgage
council tax
food ect.

Stopped using lots of things I didn't need. googled every conceivable thing I did to look at alternative options to find out what was best for me.

Washing my long hair was such a chore,I onlt did it once a week. it took ages to dry. as I didn't like using a dryer.
I'd seen a documentary about it. I decided It fell into the habit and because every one else does it catagory.

I wear hats alot so it wasn't hard to hide it for a short time I rinsed it for a few weeks and dispursed the grease by using a meixcan method of rubbing down with a cloth after about 4 weeks my hair realised that I wasn't wasing away the oil and stoped producing the extra oil id didn't need.

All I do now is brush it every morning. If i'm gardening or painting or sawing wood ect I hide it in a cap it seems to repel dirt though. I guess you could rinse it out but I've never felt the need.

I have it cut about 3 times a year I've not told any hair dressers and the've never commented.

I watch tv some times and wonder how I survive with out shake and vac, glade, fabric conditioner and furniture polish. joke :tongue2:
