hi all
 ok so when is the best time to plant my shallot sets , as my onions are up and doing well all my garlic are in sooo!! :lol:

We go for February at the earliest. It's usually into March by the time I get around to it!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Tradition has it that you plant shallots on the shortest day and harvest on the longest day.

If you plant by the moon phases it should be on the last full moon in December.

Personally I wait for the very first hint of Spring, usually end February.

They are pretty tough.

I've planted shallots both in mid winter and early spring - the mid winter ones do not start growing until it is warmer and are no better than the spring planted ones  :roll:
