some hens are autosexing. Isa brown hens,egg sheds, Isa cockerels,meat, lots of different breeds. Chicks are different colours.
Experts can hand sex chicks, but normally you can tell from wing feathers and neck feathers.
If you do not want males, you will need to cull. You have 50% chance per egg, I had 4 cockerels and 1 hen chick, which died, 1 year but I had a broody hen and was lucky that people needed cockerels nearby.
Most important is to get the run/house set up right (weather, vermin, space etc), then see what is available, but isolation means lack of resources to build as well as purchasing.
