Green Manure
« on: March 06, 2009, 06:16 »
I sowed a mixture of hungarian rye and vetch last october. It grew nice and thick over winter and kept the ground well covered. Put the strimmer over it last week and a good scattering of chicken pellets to help if break down. Not sure how long to leave it before digging in?.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

I would dig it in ASAP - takes a while to break down so can be a physical problem to sowing and planting, also can have an inhibiting effect on seed germination untill it's rotted down.
Playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order!

Dig it in ASAP. If you leave it the rye will regrow at an amazing rate and need to be strimmed again.
