2 questions on tools please
« on: April 16, 2013, 20:44 »
1- Is there such a thing as a lifetime guarantee on gardening tools the same as you can get on Halfords professional mechanical tools? I have had 3 snap in recent weeks (well my husband has snapped 3!) so I would rather pay more for something that will last a long time

2-Is there such a thing as a spade with a very sharp, almost like a cutting blade? We have just bought a new house and one of the ponds is very overgrown, its about 30cm deep in weeds and roots that have locked into a tight mat and we cant get the stuff out or hack through it! I was hoping there might be a tool that can help slice it into smaller bits we can lift out?

Thanks

The wolf garten spade comes with a lifetime guarantee.

And I get the file on my spade if I need it sharp.

I used to break a lot of digging spades, I switched over to a border spade and concentrated on not overloading it, the current one has managed to last 5 years so far.  It's carbon steel , ash handle not stainless and fibreglass - Wilkinson-sword if I remember correctly.

Most of the stuff I see in Been and Queued etc are at best novelty items for occasional use, if I need to replace mine I'll be looking at the Bulldog range, it's what the local council workers use - also with a lifetime guarantee.

My first Wilkinson spade managed to snap after 3 week's. Was replaced (after much arguing with Amazon)
