You grew that!
« on: July 10, 2016, 08:32 »
Its one of those seasons when its not sure whether we will get much out of our plots and gardens, so I bet I'm not the only one nurturing veg that is less than perfect.  It may be ugly, downright scary or so puny it gets soil kicked in its face by passing ants, but its ours and a crop is a crop

I'll start the bidding with the monster Chocolate Cherokee tomato lurking in my greenhouse.  Please try not to scream

I'd lock your doors tonight, I'm sure that will open up and a pod 'person' will emerge!

It is a scary brute alright and I do keep a nervous eye on it when I am in the greenhouse

There may be worse to come   I'm growing swede again this year, so be warned.  I have produced specimens so bad in the past, that when I posted a picture, I got asked if they screamed when they were pulled up

I have grown some nice looking tomatoes this year honest   There is photographic evidence in my diary, but the greenhouse also now houses these creatures from the black lagoon

They are Transylvanian Travelling Tomatoes, so named because they are easy to divide into segments and share around, but there is no getting away from it, they are ugly

News, they're gorgeous!

I always enjoy the Dr Kildare moment when tackling one of those beasts!

Scalpel - forceps - tincture - mop - tincture again - sharp knife - sublimity...

;0)

These toms split up along the folds into individual fruits (or so I have read).  The idea is you can take them with you and not need a knife to divide them up.  I was intrigued and thought they would be great for packed lunches.

We shall see , but they are certainly interesting

They do indeed break along the creases News, and quite cleanly too.

Nice idea for packed lunches, but won't the kids be scared out of their wits..;0)
