Hello all , I made a batch of Shepards Bullace chutney, in august, it was my first ever try, when i jared it, it was a bit runny, but i was'nt that bothered, but it has now its shrunk and thicked, whats caused this and it is still ok to eat. as it looks much more tasty now than when i jared i :unsure: any advice welcome. many thanks any Merry Christmas to all.

Hi - well your chutney will always thicken as it cools down - it wouldn't be as runny as when you jar it. As long as you had put it into airtight sterilized jars, there is no reason at all when it shouldn't be absolutely delicious!  Enjoy! :lol:
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

It will be lovely - maturing nicely.  A good bit of cheddar, some fresh bread and an apple to go with it .... the best lunch!  (Can you tell I'm hungry?    ;))

It might have shrunk in volume if you used the cellophane 'jam pot covers' and kept it somewhere a little warm. Some of the moisture will 'evaporate'. I found that by using metal tops that come with the jars prevents this from happening.

All it will have done is thicken it further and concentrate the flavours.

got a megga tonne of chutney some from last yearwe did some specially to make into brown sauce as it was realy good first time around and that was a mistake so fingers crossed .
p.s. what is bullace chutney
