Gin Advice Please
« on: November 29, 2020, 14:15 »
Last winter festival I received a bottle of damson gin.
It is still unopened, and it has occurred to me that I ought to at least try it, before the person who bought it notices it is still sealed.

But what do I mix it with. Tonic water or something else?

I do enjoy a gin and tonic, and I did try a rhubarb gin a good while ago but hated it!!

So I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Thank you

Elaine

I've made my own damson gin in the past and I found it quite drinkable.  I've also made sloe gin and bramble gin, all paleteable.
Cheers,  Tony.

The tonic would change the flavour, so you could try it without it.
Rhubarb should be a hint of flavour, so re try that without tonic.
You can also buy flavoured tonic.

The damson gin will likely be sweetened, so check the label.  That may decide you on a mixer.  If it is still too sweet with tonic, you could use fizzy bitter lemon.

Infused spirits like that are pretty wonderful in puds.  A slosh in a crumble with berry fruits would be good.  They also work surprisingly well with chocolate and you can make ice-cream.  No need for a machine - just google ice-cream with no machine and you will get lots of ideas.  Most used whipped cream and sweetened condensed milk as a base.

There is also silly twits ice-cream.  Somewhere in the mists of time, there is a copy of that recipe on here, but I can’t find it, so here is a link.

Alcohol makes ice-cream harder to set, so don’t be too heavy handed  ;)

I have a bottle that's totally undrinkable(Gin Etanol  and Hdrogen peroxide) it's being used as hand sanitizer you  could rub it on your hands about as much that covers a penny in the palm of your hand and rub it in,might take a layer of skin  off at first  jezza
