Strange eggs
« on: March 31, 2012, 13:59 »
One of my ex batts is laying strange creased eggs  ???

They are also very pale and thin shelled at the pointy end down to the last 3rd where they then become much darker and thicker.  I have never encountered this before.

She seams perfectly healthy although we have had her since December and her new feathers have still not come through yet, her companion we got at the same time is fully feathered.

this is an age related thing, which is why farmers get rid of them - apparently we only like perfect eggs  ::).

make sure she doesn't have too many treats and that she has access to a calcium supplement - this could be baked crushed shells or crushed oyster shell. Ensure she has a good quality feed.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I would cut out the treats Madrat, I have one girl who is the greediest and lays softies.  I usually manage to control it if they only have their layers pellets.  Funny thing is she is top hen and lays defect eggs!   ::)

 I didn't realise the corn and veg were treats.  I will also put a separate pot of grit out and not just mix it with the food.

Thanks everyone.

Grit is to aid digestion, it is crushed oyster shell that will help with the quality of the shells.   ;)
