Attaching guttering to metal shed?
« on: January 02, 2009, 21:14 »
Hi

I have a small  metal shed , and no water on site! Therefore I need to start accumulating waterbutts (my mother has two to donate). Trouble is getting water into the butts.

Any ideas of how to attach guttering with minimal drilling?

Also I'm guessing I should stage the height of each butt so one overflows into the next.

Thanks

Fern

Is it possible to attach a batten across the shed so you can screw guttering brackets into that ?

if you dont fancy drilling your shed you can use grippfill(no nails) just hold the gutter bracket in place with some decent duct tape until the adhesive has gone off
feed the soil not the plants

Regarding staging the heights, you could have them all the same height lined up by the side of the shed and connect them together using 40mm Tank connectors (available from plumbers merchants). I have three on my patio linked this way with a tank connector, about 3 inches down from the top, in the side of the butt linked with a short length of 40mm plastic pipe and running via another tank connector to the next butt. The water will fill the one butt untill it reaches the level of the tank connector and will then flow into the next butt until that one is full. You can connect them together endlessly for about £3 per connection. Hope this helps.

Or you can just connect them with a bit of hosepipe - fill it with water then immerse one end in one butt, put your thumb over the other end and immerse that in the other butt. Works like magic and costs a few pence.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

You can use a rivet gun, that would work.
