What is this garden hand tool, please?
« on: November 03, 2014, 17:54 »
I got some tools today and cannot work this one out. The closest I got was a dandelion root remover but it looks nothing like those shown on Google images.

Any ideas, anyone, please?

Many thanks!

According to the Wolf website, it is a weed extractor.

How you use it though, I have no idea!  Guess you plunge it into the earth and twist it?  Have fun!

Well there you go then Kev.  You have loads of dandelions, and you like wine.  See the connection?   ;) ;)

So you can put your weed extractor to good use!

I have one of those (with a long handle).
It's absolutely superb for removing thistles and dandelions.

You jam it in close to the plant and sort of twist/jiggle it around the taproot so that, in effect, you cut an inverted cone shape around the base of the plant....I'm not explaining this very well  but it'll make more sense when you try it (I hope) ...and then just ease the root out.

I have a rude name for it. I call it the fisslefoo%$r  ;)

I thought you explained it very well, actually! Thank you!

I'll give it a shot in the spring... or on a warm-ish winter day.

Wish they had one big enough to deal with pokeweed. Those taproots can be the side of tree branches!
