Raspberry canes
« on: August 21, 2014, 09:28 »
Hello all.
I have at the moment an empty plot next to mine the council came and strimed it down to ground
level there are dozens of raspberry plants shooting up . My question is if I dig some up when would
be the right time to replant them ? as I have not got a space for them at the moment I intend to grow
them in pots until I can get sorted. They are about a foot high at the moment.

Just double check the plot is still empty brianc.  If it has been strimmed, it may be because it has been let to someone else and the raspberry canes are theirs by right.  Doesn't mean to say they won't be happy to let you have a few if you ask nicely or offer a swap  ;)

Assuming the plot is still empty, raspberries are lifted late autumn and over winter, when they are fully dormant.  If you are going to root them in pots, you could give it go now.  They are tough plants  :)

.Thanks newshoot for the reply . I assume the plot is still vacant because I was offered it.
However I already have an extended plot so I do not think I could manage it , I am retired but this is my
first year of growing crops and I spend a lot of time down there and have one of the tidyist plots on site
I do not want it to become a burden, but thanks for your advise.
