After the wind last night I had to check out the allotment. Greenhouse (plastic) had blown over and some of cloches got flattened. Cold and wet rescue job! And all in the snow. :(
Still rescued all the bits -I think

Went to check over the polythene laid over some beds had not blown away. All looks ok, so took apart another pallet I have for project use.

popped up the plot this morning before the rain just to secure my sprout/cabbage cage and a few other items that might get blown around,

Very cold and very wet, but the raised beds seem to be doing the biz and are just moist not sopping.

Went around progging the soil with my new moisture/ph meter. The whole plot seems to be acid, which was no surprise given the amount of buttercups I have to dig out.

I moved some logs to the plot for my hugelkultur bed. Quite warm by the time I had finished all that despite the bitter wind.

was very cold out, so instead of sowing trays of seeds to go in the plastic greenhouses I got both my old near identical rotovators (the 'good ' one and the spare), and by combining the best bits from both, drilling out the broken fixing bolt for the exhaust on the spare and retapping, got the 'spare' engine running - this engine runs a lot smoother than the other and has no end float in the crankshaft, now reliably restarting and running. head and valves have been decoked. all ready to go turn over the plots now, the hand digging was way too slow, though hand digging will be done once the rotovator has broken things up.

I last de-coked an engine with my Dad in the 1960's - It was on his Ford Anglia when I was learning to drive! :)

Went down with the snow shovel and rescued 2 plots holders who had tried driving to there plots and got stuck, measured the snow drifts at 3-4ft and 2 ft just in general, then barrow 6 bags of corn and some straw down for someone then had to dig my way into there plot :) Good job i helped as they have had some chicks hatch and they wre snowed in!

Really enjoyed it actually and so did my son who at 4 felt like a snow king been pulled on his sledge everywhere.

Didnt enjoy the mile walk to the sales hut though in the blizzards  :(

Not doing anything - several centimetres of snow so planning how to keep my plastic greenhouse in place when I rebuild it!

Couldn't go and plant out the pea plants that are in modules as I had planned, so consoled myself with potting on the chilli and pepper plants, and the toms that will be in the heated greenhouse.

Seemed very strange doing this ina greenhouse when it was snowing, I can tell you   ???

Nothing doing in Darford today, well at least for me.
Woke up to rain that turned to sleet and then to snow that has been falling on and off all day.
Decided to pot up lilies from T&M and tomatoes that were in the heated propagator. Also a tidy up of plant pots so that when eventually do get to use them will know what I have.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!
