In the last few days I have cleared the veg beds and planted lettuce, beans and radishes.

I unearthed quite a glut of carrots from last year and notice that the chard which was planted in the autumn has taken off - quite pleased about that! It seems it was worth doing after all.  :)

Also, emptied the compost bin  and spread it around. At last I'm regaining some interest after such a long winter.

Watered, watered, watered.
Of the 14 giant single sunflowers planted out, 2 have bitten the dust.  But all the sweet peas are still ok.

My new piece of kit arrived this week a petrol strimmer . Previous battery strimmer deemed too weak as we have two plots. Husband stood back and let me do everything. I think he thought I would fail but I was determined not to . So yesterday went to the allotment and strimmed one plot husband came up to check on me but I was well a way . I dont think I will get a chance today as he will have to test drive it now

Did a little video blog that I will put on my youtube channel.
Planted out my runner beans.
Weeded the potato patch.
And back filled a drainage trench I dug.

Quick visit with the one again repaired rotovator (the flywheel key had bent throwing the timing) weeded the strawberry / raspberry bed (full of ivy! ) a 2 foot x 2 foot section yielded 40 odd strawberry plants, came home, soaked their roots then potted them up.

Watered tunnel and plots, then someone offered us some free mushroom compost which I earthed the spuds up with, then I came home and read spuds don't like it

Weeded any path ways. And chatted and chatted a bit more, opposes didn't get much done

Really aching after several hours of work today

- weeded the mini tunnel
- sowed parsnips (Panache) carrots (AK2 and Nelson)
-planted out the bush sunflower plants and the germinated other ones
- dug up the last of the golden leeks, dug in masses of compost ready for the climbing beans (Mr Sunny put up the bean frame)
- Mr Sunny planted the dahlia tubers and some of the gladioli we have overwintered
- weeded the autumn planted onions
- planted out the spring sown onions
- took down the broccoli /sprout cage, and thought hard about a design that will still do the job but be less wind resistant
- weeded the spring cabbages
- harvested the small carrots that have overwintered, and cut a decent cabbage to go with dinner tonight

ate our sandwiches, watched the blue tits and worried about the lack of bees on such a lovely day

Planted out the mangetout.
Re-sowed turnip seeds, something ate the last row.
Watered,watered,watered.
Picked some sprouting broccolli, dug up some green onions for a stir fry. First produce of the year, I think.
Also sold lots of plants in the allotment shop.

Took 18 yr old to stain shed, she got bored after 15 mins, but then she happily painted my compost bin blue instead  :D
week 4 of the new allotment- it's like time team, unearthing bricks and strange wooden frames under nettle and wondering what on earth was there before....
Remade my pathways, pulled up all the slug-attracting wooden path edging, dug dandylions, cut grass and mulched grass paths with the cuttings.
It's all good  ::)
