My empire is growing
« on: December 08, 2009, 20:42 »
We took on a 5 pole plot in April and I spent a lot of time on it through Spring and Summer. We enjoyed it so much that I let it be known that I wouldn't mind another 5 pole, but that I'd prefer it if it wasn't the other side of the allotment field. Yesterday I was told that the Polish couple on the very next plot had returned to Poland, and would I like to take over their plot? Would I? It's perfect - fairly well cultivated, with some potatoes and beetroot still in the ground (I noticed they hadn't been down for some months) and half a dozen raspberry canes. To cap it all I've heard that the Association is planning to turn a waste bit of ground right opposite us into a children's playground, so my grandson can play there while my wife and I get on with the digging and weeding.
Really looking forward to next year now.

That's great news, get planning!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Brilliant news, well done to you!  I got my second plot earlier this year and am slowly (very slowly at the moment!) clearing it.  It is amazing how quickly that first plot fills up!

Yes, when we first looked at it it was quite daunting, but then when we'd got potatoes, courgettes, sweetcorn, cabbage, sprouts etc. growing we were scratching around for space. Now I can have a go at some pumpkins for next halloween.

When I first thought about getting an allotment, all I wanted was a patch to grow a few vegetables.
Six years on, I now have two full size plots, a fruit cage, a greenhouse and two cold frames. Growing fruit and veg. has become such a huge part of mt life, I just could not imagine life without it now. I love it all!
