Is it aluminium? You might want to be careful if it gets too hot it may melt if it is thin!

However it looks like a very nifty firepit!

Excellent idea, well done.  I am trying to make use of 2 threads in Frugal Living - making the firepit by trying to get a cheap washing machine via localbargainfinder!

Have emailed a seller whose machine is currently 99p (no bids, 1 day left) to ask if they would let me take just the drum if I am the winner of the auction.

Will see what happens!

well i have just dismantled someone's old washer that I got through freecycle - bit of a pain in the butt though I got there in the end! Had to do it in the street as my drive is too steep to get the washer up there on my own, so now just have the drum and plastic casing in the back garden and will remove them tomorrow or on the weekend.

Looking forwards to being able to have a fire - think I'll christen it on the weekend  :)

Not sure if I'm lucky or unlucky as my washing machine has packed in.

So I'm off to John Lewis' tonight and at the weekend I'm dismantelling the old washer for the drum.

Just tried dismantlelling my washer in the dark, what a nightmare.
Should it be straight forward?

this is how i did mine. I didn't realise there were so many bits to a washing machine before I did it!

Remove top and bottom so you've got better access. Cut all the pipes and wires that go to the outer drum and motor. Remove soap drawer for better access.

Remove the springs that mount the drum to the chassis (I cut out the plastic with a hacksaw where it fastened on to the drum).

Remove the whole drum/outer drum assembly from the body of the washer.

Undo the bolts (or screws) holding the two halves of the outer drum together.

Either try to remove the bearing from the outer drum to free the inner drum (if you can figure out how - I couldnt!) or use a hammer and chisel to remove the plastic around the bearing.

Plonk on some bricks and have a nice fire :)

Or it might be easier to get one from your local washing machine shop, but maybe not as much fun :)
