buying allotment produce
« on: January 29, 2009, 12:52 »
Hi

I would love to have an allotment myself but I just dont have the time to do that at the moment. I am fed up with supermarket fruit and veg either having very little taste or going bad in no time. I have decided to stay out of supermarkets and buy all my shopping locally which is fine when it comes to meat but im looking for somewhere to buy fruit and veg fresh. Is there a service offered by people like yourselves who grow your own such as a doorstep box or a veg table on the allotment selling the produce as you sometimes see on country roads.

I live in Crook, County Durham. Thank you in advance for any help or advice you can give me.

Regards
Carol

Hi Carol, welcome to the forums.

I'll move this to GYO where the growers are more likely to see it.

One of the problems we encounter is that, technically, selling produce is contrary to tenancy agreements, although a "door step box" may get around this!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thank you very much. I wasnt sure where to post it.  :D

I suspected it may be against tenenacy agreements which is why I mentioned the doorstep box. I do know some people sell it anyway as I used to buy it where I used to love but its too far away now which is a shame.

I have never seen any signs regarding produce for sale when I have passed allotments local to Crook, Durham.

Our local market has a fruit and veg stall but it isnt fresh. I think they buy what is left from somewhere else and sell this on. Its really bad and far from fresh.

We do have a farm shop which has opened up a few miles away but from what I hear it isnt very good, the service is poor and the produce expensive which is such a shame as more and more people are leaving the supermarkets.
