Zero PSB Germination
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:55 »
Hi All,
I sowed my PSB seeds about 10 days ago and have had Zero germination.
It is last years seed, is PSB seed like Parsnips and you need to use fresh seed?

Any comments or advice will be gratefully received.

I'm using PSB seed which is probably 6-7 years old.

Where are you germinating them?

I sowed some brassicas in modules outdoors recently and they were through in 5 days.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

In 3 inch pots outside, 2 seeds to a pot. The pots have been outside throughout & I kept them in the shade in that spell of hot weather last week.

Sounds a bit like duff seed, but they should keep for ages!

10 of the blasted things have actually popped up this afternoon  ::)
I have sown 20 more seeds though and will use them if needed.

It has taken about 10 days for them to pop up.

Purple Sprouting Broccoli.  It's easier to type and to say PSB!

As an addendum to my original post .

I eventually had about 95% germination success rate, they took an age to come up and in between them coming up I re sowed another batch so now I have about 50 PSB seedlings to cope with  :D
