potatoes in a bag
« on: July 03, 2008, 15:27 »
hi everyone
i read a post the other day with regard to growing potatoes in a bag.
i can not remember which post it was, but some one was asking where to buy the bags
one place is dobies at www.dobies.co.uk price range is from £22.95 for 3
to £14.95 for 3 at patio size.

but if like me you do not like spending money try a large compost bag.

make some slits in the bottom and roll the bag back on its self (so the inside is on the outside) down to about a 1/3 and fill with compost or what ever.
pop in your sets and as they grow unroll the bag and fill with more compost.
you should get a good crop.

now at this point i should say that i made a big boob and lifted mine way to soon, all so under watered.

i will try again

this is my first year of growing ....... i'm not a proper gardener  :tongue2:

Agreed - I'm a newbie as well -but we've planted potato seeds in an old compost bag - the kids loved doing it. We've also got a couple in a couple of big pots (recycled cut flower buckets). Kids have been excited to see the leaves start to come through and thought it was really funny when I said we;d have to cover them up with soil soon :-)

plenty of water needed, when the leaves become large and cover the bag etc. it seems to lessen the amount of rain water that gets in the bag, so water well.

happy growing
