Help - renting space in my polytunnel?????
« on: February 09, 2008, 08:33 »
Haven't even got my polytunnel up but already a couple have asked if they can put a couple of tomato plants in it.

At first i thought they meant they want me to store the plants until they are ready to go out side but they mean the whole summer

They never normally come up to see me on my plot and i only see them if i walk to the plot as their plot is at the other end of the site. Is it mean of me to say no but how the hell do I say no they really have put me on the spot, the site manager warned me that they might ask.

Just say no as you don't have enough space for yourself, so they can sling their hook..

Are you planning to use all the space yourself? If not, then it might be nice to let them have a small portion in return for a share of the produce they grow.

Might be handy to have someone else there throughout the summer - keep things watered if you are away for a weekend etc.

I'd be quite firm and regimented about the area you let them have though - make sure it is properly marked and cordoned off so there's no room for misunderstanding.

PS - mind if I chuck some peppers in too??

Do a plan for the inside of your tunnel, draw loads of veg really crammed in, then show it to them and say you wont have room. Let them down easy. I did that with my f in law, except now i have to fill the tunnel for real

Thanks everyone,

I do want to say no, no and no  it's just hard and I know they'll moan about me to anyone that will listen

- they even said that they only like their tomatoes planted in manuare ( i went and loads from the local stables, amde four trips as sites delivery wasn't great this year) and could i put their  bed at the front so they could just pop in and out.

I would never even think of asking

Well I think the only remaining appropriate course of action is wait until they come and ask again then issue them with a firm slap around the chops followed by a stern "NO!.. bad neighbour..!"

Then spit on the floor, turn your back and walk away in disgust.

Thanks everyone

Fab morning here in Bristol clear blue sky so I'm off to the plot and I'm going to walk past their site. I'm going to wait to see if they ask again and then I'll say no.

How does this sound " with all the diseases and pests that may arise from gowing indoors i really would'n't want them to suffer, but heres some  brochures from the companies i found if you want to buy one yourself "

Hope that will be the end of it but I doubt it.

walked through the gate to find a few people having a coffee and the couple i speak of was there gave them the brochures, started chating to the others and dropped in to the conversation that I wish i could have got a biigger poly as I'd being making plans and if i have my way it will be full up within the fisrt month. They didn't say a word although their ears did prickup when someone else said they were looking to get one.

so thanks guys, as i can be a bit of a push over,
