We have 2 girls that have both been laying. 1 of them has got really broody and wont leave the nestbox. Tried kicking her out and closing the door but she just finds the nearest best shelter and sits there. Not sure if I have done the right thing but have just put her in a secure part on her own with no shelter and no way back to the nest box, Have I done the right thing? Anyone any further ideas. Thanks in advance

Apparently there is nothing worst than a Silkie for going broody

There isn't much else you can do really - just keep turfing her off the nest  
There have been a couple of posts about constant broodies just recently I'll find a couple for you Be Right Back

Funnely enough my Silkie has gone broody but we keep on butting her out as it is the wrong time of year and cant get eggs she doesnt like it but she will soon get over it hopefully

So keep her like she is and she should get over it

Thanks so far. Think I will keep her in her little run on her own for a few days hopefully that should help. Will stop her getting in the nestbox at night also. Hopefully she will be back to normal in a few days.

I've let on e of mine sit on her own, when she's been there for a couple of weeks I'll chuck her out again.  2 being broody at the same time is a nightmare as they want to sit in the same nest box.  The first is now over  her broodiness and behaving normally although not laying yet.

Thanks folks. I have read some of the other posts and dont fancy dipping her in cold water, that seems a little unneccessary. What would happen if we just left her and how would it affect her (if at all)

If you left her she would just sit & sit, you would have to take her off the nest once a day to eat, drink & stretch her legs
You would have to watch her weight, making sure she's eating enough with winter approaching.
Apart from that there are no major problems if she sits

I have seen on here that some broodies have stayed sitting for 5 weeks  :shock:
Hopefully at this time of year she'll get bored sooner :?
