Title: Can we put a Silkie Bantam cockerel with hens?
Post by: lizzydripping on April 20, 2009, 16:28
I recently bought some silkie bantams (recklessly unseen...!) and discovered that among the five, two were cockerels.  The more dominant male is making the other cockerel's life difficult and I wondered if it would be possible to introduce this bossy cockerel to my two hens (a two-year old bluebelle and a two-year old black leghorn) who live separately in their own house and run (plenty of room).  I'm a bit dubious, but my hen-keeping aunt says that this should be ok, and should let the others live in peace! - what does anyone think?    Many thanks for any help or advice!

In my opinion the hens would make short work of the new guy. There should be a very pronounced size difference in him and the hens and after living alone for a long period of time they will not be keen on company.
