Globe artichokes
« on: February 27, 2012, 14:19 »
Hello!
I have recently taken over a plot (November last year)  and have quite a few artichoke plants on it.  They are spread over quite an area and although I'd like to keep some I need to move them if possible.  Can anyone give me advice about how and when to do it?
Thanks.

Now is probably best just avoid a day with a hard frost/frozen soil.

Thank you.  I'll pick a dry day and head on down the plot.

I'd give it a couple of weeks before you move them, just to make sure that chance of frost is gone.

They're a funny plant, you might well think you have lost it. They tend to go through periods of looking very, very dodgy but inevitably perk up again. It might take a while, maybe even a season before they look fit and healthy again. In my experience, they seem quite difficult plants to kill!

Good luck.
