Onion sets /Spuds Poundland
« on: February 03, 2010, 20:14 »
Hi

Anyone on a tight budget, saw onion sets & seed spuds in the pound shop.

They had a bag of Red Baron onions, I don't grow, so did not pay much attention, but the onion sets had lots in.

They were fresh in & looked healthy.  :)

Must admit, I was very chuffed with the Red Baron's I got from Poundland last year.

I don't think any failed to grow and they stored well.

I think I shall pop along and have a look at their Potatoes, worth a row at least..

When I went into our local Poundland the other week, the bags of seed potatoes were £1 strangely enough, but they only weighed 200gms.  That's not cheap.  :(

10 Pentland Javelin for a pound is cheap Grannie,  if you only want small quantities.

You only get 5 for a quid in Wilko! and I nearly choke on my cuppa when I look at the prices for 5 or 10 in the catalogues

The bigger bags do work out a lot cheaper weight wise, but not if you are going to throw most of them away

Hi

Poundland is cheap, if you only need a few.

I was going to get some aaran victory as a b'day gift for my Bro in law, when it added £7.00 postage, he got squash seeds of prem direct. He's not a member, so he won't see this  :)

Our lotty shop has 3Kg for £2.20 - lovely Scottish ones.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I went into the local garden centre, having counted the spuds in the bags in Poundland, and bought more for less. I don't plant that many spuds so didn't want large numbers.

But it's just a passing comment. Poundland is convenient - I was in there today for something else and all their seed spuds had chitted through being kept in the warm.
