Broad bean problem
« on: May 14, 2009, 14:52 »
Hi everyone - am just after a bit of broad bean advice as am a newbie to all this  :)

I noticed a couple of black bean aphids on one of my bean bean plants and after reading a few posts on here I sprayed them with a mixed of washing up liquid and water and picked the top of the particular plant.
- Only the flowers and leaves then discoloured and got dark patches.  Is this normal?  Or should I have used a diferent type of soap.  :(

Thanks x

Possibly might have been a bit strong. Water them with plain water - maybe try some liquid seaweed feed to give them a boost but they are pretty hardy, unless you used oven cleaner or something!
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Thanks noshed  :) - Nope just fairy liquid!!
Hopefully they will be ok and still get loads of lovely beans from them - its my first year of trying.  They are up to about 3 foot so will give them a good feed tonight
