Hardening off veggies and windy weather
« on: May 09, 2011, 17:44 »
We have had constantly windy weather for the last 2/3 weeks and I have just not been able to get plants outside to harden off. I tried putting some plants out one day last week and the poor things were really getting a battering.
I do not have a cold frame - has anyone got any relatively inexpensive ideas as to how I can overcome this. Thanks.

Is the wind coming from a particular direction?  If so, can one side of the house be used to shelter them?

Otherwise I'd be tempted to wait.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We're not (that) far from Springlands and our 2 - 3 week long constant high winds have been coming fairly consistently from the south east.

I have tried different parts of the garden Yorkie - unfortunately we are in a very exposed position and I cannot find a sheltered spot at all. Will just have to hope that the winds fall soon.

couple of stout stakes and some debris netting should be enough.

I cannot remember such a prolonged period of constantly windy weather Argylie - the only time it stopped was when it rained. We will just have to wait it out - problem is I am running out of space in the greenhouse and some of the plants will get pot bound. The joys of gardening.  :D :D

Thanks for the suggestion Lardman - might try that.
