:?: I can find a thousand and one solutions for slugs, but I'm amazed I can't find more about how to control what's been the bane of my plot this year - WOODLICE. If it grows, they've had it: sweetcorn, celeriac. cabbages, potatoes, carrots, the lot. Yet there doesn't seem to be much written or discussed about them. Any tried & tested tips? I'm pretty organic, so no suggestions of toxic waste! Twig

You won't find any information on them because they don't hurt plants  :? Not live ones anyway. Is it possible your plants are dying from another means and the woodlice are just munching on the dead plants? These are woodlice, right, not scale insects?
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

They're definitely woodlice, they DO hurt plants, they're not scale insects, and the plants aren't dying, they're perfectly healthy but being eaten before I get the chance to do so!

Woodlice only help along damage caused by slugs. Slugs definately like eating the vegetables you've mentioned.

Ok thanks, I can deal with the slugs.

Does anyone have any suggestions about woodlice or are they just something we have to live with?

It's a case of live with woodlice they really don't do a lot of damage and will break down your compost heap quite well not as good as worms but same idea

I notice thousands around in my plants, corn, beetroot etc but I came to the conclusion they are upto rumpy pumpy and using the veg as a swinging venue, I have'nt really noticed any damage caused by them or at least the veg have'nt suffered to the point where I have to throw it away.

I had woodlice trying to eat my apples I picked (or make babies).  I just flicked them off and removed the apples out of woodlice way indoors.  Have not really had any other issues with them so find it hard to offer any useful advice, sorry.

Never heard that Woodlice do any damage to live healthy plants. They like decaying matter. Earwigs now - they love dahlia and chrysanthemun flowers and other things, ut they are only really a problem if you want to show the flower etc!
Keep the plot cultivated, that's the best way to ensure its future.

I think woodlice may damage plants, they ravaged some cherry toms in the green house last year. But how do you reduce their numbers,I clear finished plants and leaves up but they are still everywhere especially in pots  hate picking lettuce leaves when the compost is heaving with them.
