Broody VS Incubator
« on: June 03, 2011, 10:40 »
Hello I have a Pekin Sitting on now 10 eggs

But now will the eggs hatch the same time as the ones i have in my Icubator as that is where the pekin eggs came from they were all set at the same time until i was sure Honey was broody and egg ready.

Due date is the 4th

well today is hatch day and so far all is on time

Incy 5 out of 14         Time  16:30

Broody 1 out of 10     Time  16:30

I think it's More stressful using a broody than a incubator as in an incubator we can see what is going on and a broody well is way to orny to try and peek, and to see the stress a hen goes though just to have a few babies is heart breaking.

once all babies are out we will work on getting a healthy looking hen poor little hen but she is one happy hen today so YAY for the out come so far.

hatching can usually occur anytime from day 19 - 25 (I have even had them hatch on day 17 and as late as day 27). Hatching times at day 19 for bantams and 21 for large fowl is just a generalisation.
Staffies are softer than you think.

I only ever use broodies and it is so easy. They can be aggressive towards people as they are trying to protect their future chicks.
Hatching on days 19 for bantams and 21 for large fowl is just a generalisation. It can vary from day 17 through to 27 (I have had both so some may be shorter or longer).
Just leave the broody alone and she will bring them out when she is ready - keeping looking will only stress her out. They do lose condition whilst sitting and this is perfectly normal after all they have been doing this for thousands of years  ;)

oh I know they been doing this since the dawn of time  :D and we only peeked twice  as it's been hot and wanted to make sure honey (aka mommy) had water and we wanted to see the baby but i dont want to add to her stress.

I turst to Fate when it comes to the natural way of life in nature they balance out.

Being raised on a farm you see the good and the bad with live stock.

Yoy Thank you for you info we take it to heart.
