How much watering do you do ?
« on: July 20, 2009, 17:35 »
Hi,

Just wondering how much watering you do in dry weather ? Or do you leave everything and let the rain do the job ? Or water some veg and not others ?

I must admit that I only water in the greenhouse, and the pots and troughs(only flowers in those)

I water my pots at home ( toms, peppers etc)

I have watered the stuff that I newly planted in the ground about twice depending on the weather. Otherwise I've left it to the rain.

All the pots, get watered as and when they need it and the beds get the hose once a week if it don't rain, which has been quite a lot this year. Not always hot and sunny, but despite the last few days, here in Ashford it has been a dry year so far

Obviously I water all the stuff in the greenhouse (barring the vine - got quite a few bunches of grapes coming along).  The only thing that I water outside is newly planted plants.  But everything else the rain waters them.  Just remember that no matter how dry the weather, it never dries out more than 6" below soil surface

I'm afraid i can't agree with that one
One of the downsides to raised beds i'm afraid....when i dug the spuds up it was completely dry  for a spade depth and beginning to crack on the surface, despite a few good waterings

Only problem with raised beds.  One of the few times that you need to water regularly
