new hens

Hi everyone we are finally coming to terms with the loss of our lovely girl and although we thought we would stick to the 3 girls we have left we are now wondering about getting another. Do you think it would be easier to introduce 2 new girls instead of just one, also is it hard introducing new girls cause dont think i could cope with bullying etc

Id always say introduce 2, not one. It wouldnt be fair on the new girl, she would be at the bottom of the pecking order, and believe me, she would be pecked. Its always  safer to get 2.

Good Luck!!

Mary.

I would agree always introduce in twos (or three if space allows)  we introduced four new chicks to our existing four and whilst it wasn't without problem I do think the chicks benefitted from having each other. They initially formed a separate group but have now fully integrated with the older girls.  We once had to integrate a bird that we rescued and she took much longer to get in with the gang!
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)
