Title: Help with potato blight please
Post by: Grubbypaws on July 24, 2014, 08:48
My Red Fir Apple has eventually started showing early signs of blight. I have been keeping it at bay each day but am going away for 3 days. Am I OK to leave it for this short time or would I be best to cut down all the foliage before I go?

If they're all looking suspect I'd chop them all down - although the infection doesn't spread so much in dry weather once it's entered the plants it takes them over quite quickly.

If any look unblemished, it would probably be safe to leave them for 3 days given the current weather.

Mine crept through the lot in 3 days, crop small but tasty. At least by weight we covered the cost of the compost in the tubs and the seed potatoes. Well compost is always dug in where it's not going to grow a related crop so it pays its way.
