insane salad rocket question

hi,

My rocket patch is growing really well in all this damp, but I find it's not that flavoursome. Is it not the case that the best salad rocket, where best is that horseradishy hotness, is obtained when there is loads of sun?

I made some pesto from it and it's not hot at all

I'm not as expert as others on here, but I have grown rocket for some years and I think the peppery taste is the particular type you use. I think you can get wild rocket or salad rocket and one is peppery, the other isn't. I can't remember which is which I'm afraid.
Lynne.

So much to do, but so little time.

I grow both types and it is at its hottest just before it bolts then it is really strong.I love it like that too especially to liven up sandwiches at work.

I have the one with white flowers. It's a bit horseradishy. The older leaves more so. I wondered if the lack of sun made it less so.

I don`t think so as rocket  can be sown early and up until september/october and a later sowing in the greenhouse. If your rocket has flowered(bolted)then the flavour does get hotter, this ruins it for most people so  those of us who like it hot are lucky.

They've been trying to set for weeks but i've been pinching the flowers out. I'll let them bolt now. Yeah my tastes are spicy. I find fresh chili refreshing. Tonight i had a veg curry with chili and lime pickle side    :D
