Borlotti Beans
« on: September 01, 2014, 09:56 »
Hi - I have a bumper harvest of Borlotti Beans this year. Unfortunately they have gone a slightly rusty colour while drying.  It was cold and I was away unable to check while drying them in the pods on newspaper at home.  I think they stayed too long in the pods and didn't dry out quick enough.  Once removed from the pods they have dried out fine but have this rust colour.  My question is - are they ok to eat? I want to check - especially before feeding them to my children.  thanks

Welcome to the site  :D

I'll move this over to the cooking / storing / preserving board for people to have look at, but feel free to pop back onto this Welcome board for a proper welcome  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Some of mine have done the same this year and I have thrown them away, did not want to risk it.

A lot of mine have the same colour but I really think its just taken a taint of colour from the pod and will be fine.

I wont be throwing them as there are too many so if they don't taste nice then they will go for seed.

Anyway here's a pic of mine and there are loads still on the plant which are no where near dry
