Title: Plants (climbers?) for a north facing wall
Post by: Diddy Gardener on May 13, 2015, 15:32
I have a north facing wall in my front garden and would love something to grow to cover it (wall only about 3 feet tall). Have tried various rambling roses which end up just flowering on the tips where they get the sun -  so time to go for something more suited to the aspect.

Any ideas?

You could try a climbing hydrangea, which gives a good show on a north wall, and can be trained sideways rather than up. Some clematis cope well with this aspect too. I can only think of Nelly Moser off the top of my head, which is a very old variety. I am sure someone will have something more up to date.

Star jasmine (trachelospermum jasminoides)? It will cover the wall and will flower if it gets a little sun (but not if in full shade).
