Vine Weevil

Grown some Rhubard from seed last year doing well until today,I left them in pots over the winter noticed today that some were sending up leaves and others not.After close inspection VINE WEEVIL so spent the afternoon searching all my pot grown plants.
I've taken some photo's if anybody is not sure what the signs are

No roots on plant on right

Larve in compost

Six plants looked like they were infected so I tipped them out and this is the larve I found.Not a good day disposed of them all

Sorry you had to lose plants BlackDiamond, but thanks for posting those pics.
I have seen vine weevils before but never the larvae, so at least I know what to look for now.

I had vine weevil in a fuschia in a hanging basket once. Ipoured a kettle of boiling water over what was left of the roots and then planted it in a corner of the garden and it's still going strong now and is a lovely bush and it's not even a hardy variety.

am relatively new to gardening but have heard about them and damage they can cause.I was speaking to a garden centre today about mushroom compost and they said that its teeming with them as its not regulated!!
