Jerusalem artichokes
« on: March 14, 2018, 15:56 »
Help please.
Last years' JC are still standing tall despite the frost. Should I cut them down to ground level and then put some support stakes next to each one (as I forgot to do last year and had to put them in at the last minute) or just leave them. Do new shoots appear from the old plants?

I'd cut them down AND I'd get some dug up if I were you otherwise they'll be out of control by the end of the year. Each tuber will produce a 'new' plant. To give you an idea of how many, I got 58 tubers from 4 I planted in a large tub!

Thanks for your comment. I don't really want to eat them I am using them as a very attractive barrier between me and the street. They were a lovely sight last year. If there are too many I will cut as few down.
